Humans Shrunk 100 Times

Chapter 102: Comb and Toothbrush

Perhaps this was the most divisive moment since they all came together, especially between Chen Mu and Dong Junwei, two heavyweight figures.

Dong Junwei turned her head and asked, "Tang Jing, what do you think?"

Tang Jing, as the one who proposed this plan, had not expressed her opinion from the beginning until now.

For a long time, she had always given the impression of being an advisor, but after thoroughly analyzing the situation, she would let others make the decision, never taking a stand on anything. In this regard, she was even more low-key than Chen Mu.

But now that she was asked directly, she couldn't remain silent.

"I can only say that I'm 80% sure nothing will go wrong."

"Not enough!" Dong Junwei shook her head.

"But with Chen Mu's methods, it should be more than 90%." Tang Jing added.

Dong Junwei fell into silence for a moment before finally nodding. "Alright, but Chen Mu's protective measures must be in place."

Chen Mu nodded.

It was already evening, and they certainly wouldn't have enough time today.

Although cats liked to frolic at night, Little Huang had never come out at night because Du Jiajia needed to sleep.

After dinner, Du Jiajia cheerfully started to clean up the tableware.

On Chen Mu's side, the work on the door's gap was mostly completed. Next was to create a staircase passage for transporting goods and tunnels for each room.

As for the previously mentioned overhead crane, it was still in the planning stage, and there was no time to implement it yet.

Chen Mu was looking up at the entire shelving when He Ying approached leisurely.

"I thought Dong Junwei would suggest a vote, and I was thinking that I finally had a chance to cast a vote."

"You mean what just happened?"

"Yeah."

"What is your opinion?"

"I don't have any particular thoughts, but since Du Jiajia wants to try, I will definitely vote in favor."

"That's why Dong Junwei didn't suggest a voting decision, because almost everyone shares the same idea as you."

"That's true," He Ying nodded.

"But that's not the main reason," Chen Mu said.

"What else is there?"

"While voting decisions are relatively fair, many times they are used as a means to evade responsibility. Dong Junwei obviously disdains such behavior."

...

After dinner, everyone basically didn't engage in high-intensity work. Chen Mu only worked on making some small items needed for daily life based on the remaining mental power of the day.

Like combs.

For the boys, Wei Dalei and Chen Mu had the simplest short hair, while Chang Junyan, Zhu Hao, and others were relatively more particular, but they would also try to cut their hair short before summer.

However, it was a bit more troublesome for the girls.

Dong Junwei and Tang Jing both had typical long hair, He Ying's was slightly shorter but still reached her shoulders, and most of the other girls had a similar style.

Without combs for such a long time, they could only use their fingers to comb their hair.

But obviously, it was not very convenient.

So, every morning, you could see a group of girls using their fingers to comb their hair, which took quite some time.

For Chen Mu, making combs wasn't extremely difficult, but it was by no means simple.

After all, he always detested creating objects with intricate structures like this.

Fortunately, after his abilities progressed, he eventually managed to create this item.

However, in terms of aesthetics and precision, it was definitely not very satisfying.

It could barely get the job done.

He made combs for each girl, while the boys had two shared combs. For those like Wei Dalei with buzz cuts, they didn't need one at all.

Making these small items didn't require much effort, and once Chen Mu successfully made one, producing a small quantity was not a difficult task.

"My hair has been splitting a lot lately. It's uncomfortable without shampoo."

"Mine too, and it's a bit dry."

"Do we even have any hair conditioner..."

After finishing a day's work, everyone gathered around the towel, chatting and passing the time, with only a bonfire missing in the middle.

With no entertainment options available, chatting was the only way to spend time.

With sixteen people together, there was certainly no shortage of topics to discuss.

But most of their conversations revolved around comparing their current and past lives.

Shower gel and shampoo had also been mentioned many times.

However, in the short term, it seemed there was little hope of obtaining them.

The bathing issue was not entirely resolved either.

The last time they took a hasty shower was during the rain when they utilized the newly built drainage pipe. But even with water available, showering was still somewhat troublesome before the bathroom was completed.

Currently, Chen Mu had connected a water hose to the water tank and set up a makeshift enclosure at the door so everyone could take turns cleaning up.

But this was only a temporary measure, and Chen Mu didn't have time to perfect these things, while Tang Jing was still planning the drainage system for the bathroom and couldn't start work yet.

Washing hair wasn't difficult.

The problem was the lack of shampoo.

The closest shampoo might be found in the school dormitory building, but the issue was that the Ziwei High School dormitory was located off-campus, not far away, just across the street. But obviously, it was not worth the risk to go there just for shampoo.

The most probable alternative might be soap or hand wash.

Hand wash was available in the bathroom.

But just like shampoo, these things were currently not essential, so it was unlikely anyone would go there specifically for them.

"Compared to shampoo, I actually wish we had toothpaste more."

Zhao Xiaoyan sighed, seemingly aware that it was just wishful thinking.

"Even if we have toothpaste, we don't have toothbrushes."

"Can Chen Mu make toothbrushes now?"

Whenever anyone had a new idea, everyone instinctively turned their gaze to Chen Mu.

Chen Mu spread his hands, "This is really difficult."

The difficulty of making a toothbrush was many times higher than making a comb.

Moreover, with a comb, it didn't matter if it was made a bit roughly, but that wouldn't work for a toothbrush. Some people had high demands for the softness and hardness of the bristles.

Making the handle of a toothbrush was not very difficult for Chen Mu, but the bristles were far from being realized, and he wasn't even sure what material to use.

Currently, everyone could only rinse their mouths every day, using their fingers or a plastic stick to rub the surface of their teeth and gums, nothing more.

Chen Mu turned to Tang Jing and asked, "Can we use plastic for the bristles of the toothbrush?"

Tang Jing nodded, "If possible, nylon would be best, but if not, polypropylene would do."

"What about plastic utensils?"

"Yeah, most disposable utensils are made of polyethylene or polypropylene, and they can be used, at least."

Though that was the case, Chen Mu's biggest problem now wasn't the material but the craftsmanship.

Let alone the bristles, it would be quite challenging for him to make such fine plastic strands.

Tang Jing added, "Moreover, the bristles of the toothbrush are not just a matter of using some nylon or plastic strands; they need to be rounded at the front end; otherwise, they might hurt the teeth and gums."

The idea of the toothbrush had to be temporarily shelved.

However, since the topic had been brought up, Chen Mu eventually made a plastic stick in the shape of a toothbrush for each person. Tang Jing suggested winding some cotton thread around one end of the plastic stick, which could barely serve as a toothbrush.

It was evident that despite all the improvements and the better days at Qiming, various small problems continued to arise.
