A Failure's hopeful Journey

In the command center, Maddison received a short report, "Commander this is Wrath Squad, we have movement. Request your presence for backup. Over and Out" during the transmission Deputy Riaz was also present inside the command center. Since the transmission was done on the common transmission band of the command center, the people in the office could all hear it clearly. 

Handing over the command of the base to the second deputy commander. Riaz and Maddison left the base with their guards. The situation was not known to anyone except the three higher-ups. When Maddison reached the spot, she found that the whole squad, the best squad of the base, was engaged with the dark creatures holding nothing back. Although they all maintained a formation, the stress and tension were visible. 

The squad operated in silence, but they were slowly draining themselves. You Xi Wang issued a command in the isolated channel, "Deploy the spirit barrier, narrow down the exist and split on my command."

The squad did not know what You Xi Wang had in mind, but they all trusted him to the utmost and they responded, "AYE."

They all aimed their spirit energy, and a golden dome formed up around the array pattern. The dark law wielder had sensed the existence of the arrays and did not let the zombies charge into them desperately. You Xi Wang had a grade 7 spirit barrier deployed ahead of the arrays. The barrier had only one opening that was only a few feet wide. 

The golden dome formed and Fenny commanded, "Focus fire on the exit point."

The squad replied, "AYE" and they focused the line of fire on the exit point. Their phalanx formation was now concave and all the Phaser spears were making the zombies turn into fine sieves. The undead was different. They would all just turn to dust after being hit by the Holy spirit energy. 

Yes, the Phaser spear was capable of that. It would extract the other four elements from the environment and shoot after concentrating them into a beam of the holy spirit. The arrays used for extraction were all hybrid and this weapon was a combination of advanced technology and innovative array knowledge. 

The load lowered a bit. Just when the squad was getting happy, You Xi Wang commanded, "Keep firing and split up."

The squad followed with nothing asked.

Maddison, on the side, was watching the squad and was prepared to lend a hand whenever needed. She was surprised to see the squad split up. She turned her gaze to You Xi Wang who stood in the back. Her surprise turned to shock. In front of the boy, laid a canon. It was not a normal cannon. Deputy Riaz sucked in a cold breath and said, "Did they experiment with this weapon?"

The weapon in his mouth was a howitzer-level cannon. What You Xi Wang did was to turn 9 howitzers into a battling gun. Can you imagine the size and dread that thing could do?

Yeah, You Xi Wang, Gena, and Fenny, along with other tech experts, made this thing. This was a secret kept by their squad, a hole card if they came against an enemy that was difficult to deal with. Plus, not everyone could use this battling gun. It was a Phaser weapon. Ten people were needed to input spirit energy for ten minutes, and only then will it refine and condense them into a beam of damage capable holy spirit beam. 

You Xi Wang had a higher quality of spirit energy and the quantity was similar. On the back of his suit, a spirit-gathering array started running as soon as he held the input shafts in his hands. The boy transmitted all his spirit energy inside in an instant. Because of the cultivation technique, he practiced the body itself was now like a superconductor of the five elements. His absorption and channeling were matchless in the entire world.

He spat out in the squad channel, "RETREAT."

The squad all retreated while firing. A light appeared inside the canon turret and it flickered, the cannon roared, it moved clockwise and the next turret flashed. After a second, a sound was heard. 

BOOM...

The sound was suppressed by the noise cancellation arrays of the seventh level first. But it was so strong that it still was heard out in a radius of twenty kilometers.

Maddison felt her heart almost jumping out of her chest. The lady felt the shock from the sound in her body just now, and it was nothing less than scary. She turned her head to the opening of the spirit barrier and found none of the zombies to be visible in a radius of 500 meters. 

Deputy Riaz spoke doubtfully, "Commander, why do I feel like this is not the true power of this weapon?"

Maddison replied without moving her gaze, "Because it is not." her words dropped and the second shot landed. The impact range was 1000 meters. She called up Fenny on her comms and asked, "What is this weapon?"

Fenny chuckled and said, "Heavenly tribulation."

The name might sound a bit too much, but the reason behind it was the principal the weapon followed. Every attack would be twice stronger than the previous one. Maddison was shocked. She did not expect these kids to be so wild. She immediately said, "That is dangerous, these cannons were not made to handle that big of an impact."

Fenny replied, "These turrets are all, made in Elfheim, we have the secret access to go there you know, teacher?" the indifference in her voice was choking Maddison. 

She asked, "How many secrets do you guys have?"

Fenny just chuckled and spoke to her squad, "Take the spirit rejuvenation pills and get ready. We have thirty minutes."

The squad stopped firing, and all sat on their spots gathered spirit energy in their bodies. They all had a spirit-gathering array on the backs of their suits. Deputy Riaz gulped a mouthful of sputum. He asked Maddison, "Commander, these guys sure are lavish, no? They have a spirit gathering formation in their suits. But is it not wasteful? The arrays would disturb the spirit energy flow of the rest of the people as well."

Maddison said, "You Xi Wang is smarter than me and you both combined by a level we cannot think of. This boy also is a grade 7 array master. Do you think he will not know of such a basic flaw of a close chain of spirit-gathering arrays? Look closely."

Deputy Riaz gazed closed, but he found nothing too striking. Then suddenly his pupils dilated. He spotted a sesame seed-sized black hole in the void. That hole was spewing spirit energy into the people. Almost injecting it into their body. He pointed at them with a shivering finger. 

He spoke with a stutter, "Is that a Peak Grade 7 array invented and used by Grand Elder Animus? The remote teleportation array? But how can it conduct spiritual energy? Who is this kid?" he was having an existential crisis at this moment. 

Maddison did not explain, but she was silently exclaiming in her heart. Not only did her student, master something none another can, he also changed it. She moved her gaze to You Xi Wang, and the guy was focused on channeling the energy through his body and bomb the undead. At this moment, he has done 6 shots, clearing one side of the ruin. 

Then You Xi Wang held the handle and on a screen shifted his target a bit and the sixth shot was fired. A glowing beam of holy spirit energy landed in the back of the ruin. The highest concentrated region of the zombies. 

The boy closed the spirit barrier and fell to his knees. His hands were stuck to the input shaft. He spoke in the internal comms with a low voice, "You guys hurry."

His hand slipped off the shaft and he was about to fall on the ground when Maya appeared and supported his body. She spoke in his mind, "Brother Xi Wang, take rest." in a soft voice. 

Maddison appeared next to him and held his body up. She embraced him in his arms and whispered, "You did good, Young God of War."

Fenny stood up from the ground. It took them twenty-five minutes. She spoke seething in rage, "THIS BASTARD, WHY DID HE WENT ON WITH THE SIXTH SHOT? THAT IS HARMFUL TO HIM."

Issac spoke, "He took out 70 percent of the zombies. We took out 10 percent in the earlier face-off. 20 percent is left. He took a rick, the last shot alone wiped out 30 percent. He could not battle anyhow, that is why he took the sixth shot." in a calm voice.

Fenny retorted, "I know the math, you geek. Shut up. Get your asses back in formations. If any piece of rotten meat walks out alive. I will break your asses tonight. GO!" her voice was loud and her words were rude. She never liked You Xi Wang to be in pain.

Inside the ruins, the lady scowled. "Bastards, so much damage, and still avoid the ruin seals. I SHALL RIP YOU TO SHREDS." she had faced a cracking defeat in front of these greenhorn kids. Her pride was damaged.

Suddenly her eyes flickered, "You lost, hahaha." a sign of white appeared in her black eyes. She was fighting at two fronts. One was inside her mind and heart while the other was outside the ruins.
