Weekly Chapter 5/5

“Aren’t you busy?”

Jumi took advantage of the incessantly ringing mobile in his pocket as a convenient excuse. He understood what she wanted to tell him, so he quickly got up.

“Can I visit you in the coffee shop as a customer?

“Is there a boss who doesn’t like it when sales increase?”

Even after he said goodbye, he could not leave easily. When he opened the door to the room, his feet froze like a person trapped in a swamp. He appeared ashamed. The person who placed the baby in Jumi’s womb was found.

“Hello…”

Taejoo was taken aback. The man was scary even when he was calm.

“Who are you?”

“I am a close friend of Jumi. My name is Taejoo. Nice to meet you.”

It was the first time he had seen Yoongyo, but Yoongyo had seen him at the hotel that day.

“Yes. I said that so you don’t misunderstand the situation.”

Although Yoongyo hadn’t asked anything, Taejoo was so scared that he added.

The exit was blocked, so he couldn’t get out. The man stood motionless looking at him. He unmistakably harbored suspicions about his connection with Jumi.

“It’s different from what Choi Jumi told me.”

Yoongyo’s gaze rested on the hospital room as he smiled. He knew he had lied, but he decided not to do anything else.

“Taejoo is busy. A patient is waiting for him.”

“Then I’ll leave.”

Yoongyo, who was looking at Taejoo, took a step to the side. Taejoo quickly left. It was peculiar, but she experienced comfort in Yoongyo’s presence, possibly due to his role as the father of her child. She trusted him to be a responsible father. She assumed he was a man who always kept his word.

“Lying is a habit.”

“Sometimes it’s unavoidable.”

“I guess you were scared.”

Yoongyo sat up in bed. Despite his emotions being difficult to discern from his expression, he didn’t appear angry.

“I could just kill him.”

“I have a baby in my womb, so please refrain from saying such things.”

“This is ridiculous.”

“I mean it.”

“What knowledge could be contained in something as small as a peanut?”

“But there is such a thing as prenatal education.”

Jumi looked at what the man held between his fingers. There was an ultrasound. She was surprised. It looked like he had picked up the ultrasound while she was distracted. Although he had an accusing look on his face, he didn’t say anything else.

She placed the ultrasound on her thighs. After she looked at the ultrasound, her eyes turned to him because it was too quiet. She cleared her throat.

“The president’s wife went to the coffe shop.”

“I know.”

“You know? How? She invited me to accompany her on a shopping trip.”

“Don’t worry about it.”

When she sat down, she couldn’t bear his eyes, so she averted her gaze.

“I’d never had any goals before. I just did what my dad told me to do, did what my mom told me to do. The only thing I did on my own was try to open a coffee shop called Moon Yeon. Now I have something to protect. When I think about it, I feel alive. I’m a useful person for this baby.”
