Chapter 56: Going back to the Human Kingdom

Chapter 56: Going back to the Human Kingdom

...

Four days have passed since the Hermes boots incident, and since then the whole Elf Kingdom has done a profound search and investigation on all criminal organizations that he had been overlooking until now, as well as interrogating many dangerous criminals that were suspected to have any relationship with the Boots or the thief.

However, after four days the search for the boots finally calmed down, and the people were allowed once again to leave the city as they pleased, of course, with a lot of security and precaution at the exit of the city, to avoid letting the criminal out or let the boots leave the kingdom. Be it looking inside the bags of the people, or looking inside every cage or barrel that merchants had. No spot was left overlooked when allowing someone to leave the city.

And I, of course, was currently being investigated by them as well, as I was about to leave the city right now.

"Hmm... nothing in the bag... are you carrying have any other luggage with you Human...?"

"Nope"

"Hmm... alright, you can pass"

As the guard looked at me with slight contempt in his eyes, he allowed me to leave and looked once again at the line of people behind me waiting for their turn, this time with an exhausted gaze.

Although most of the elves I have met until now weren't that bad, like Alyem, there was still a part of them that were sightly racist towards humans, not completely radical to the point it could disgust them for me to touch them, but they still looked at me as if they were looking at an insect whom they could trample whenever they wanted.

I obviously ignored them, talking to people like them was useless unless they were willing to listen to me anyways. Which I doubt they were.

"Have a good trip, Aspen!" Alyem shouted from far away when he saw that they allowed me to go.

I just waved my hand without looking back and started walking towards inside the forest which could lead me to the Human territory once again.

"Sigh... Time to travel for another week straight once again... Well, let's hope I can rest properly after I arrive at my home"

Hmm...? Wait... now I can just run using the Hermes boots and arrive a lot faster!

Though I think I will wait a bit until I'm far enough from any Elf city or village, after all I don't want anyone to see me running at superhuman speed. That could be pretty suspicious after all...

Alright, let's speed run this!

Two days later...

...

"Huff... Finally, Who could have thought that running so many hours without rest could be so exhausting... Not me at least"

As I walked down from the hill where I could see my home in the distance, I entered once again the forest and started walking towards the tall walls that surrounded the area to prevent monsters from coming in.

*Tak!*

*Tak!*

*Tak!*

The echo of someone cutting wood could be heard from outside the walls, and it was probably Claire, after all the winter wasn't completely gone right now, and a bit of snow and ice could be seen on the ground.

*Click*

*Dooooowwwwwgh!* The enormous gate of the walls started opening right after I pushed a button on the left side of the entrance.

"Hmm... Oh, so you came back... Did you by any chance finally decided to give me a bit of your blood?" Claire turned to look at me with a bored gaze and repeated the same question she always asks whenever I leave this place for some time.

"Nope, now, if you excuse me, I will go straight to clean and tidy up my house a bit, after all I haven't been there for at least a month and it must be full of dust inside."

"Tch..." Claire just clicked her tongue and continued cutting down wood.

Alright, now let's ente-

"Ah, by the way, a messenger came the other day from the capital and delivered this letter for you..." Claire walked towards me and handed me a letter with a beautiful design in it and a sword and shield engraving right at the center of it.

The militia, huh? Why is it that I can't have even a bit of peace... Whatever, if it's not important enough then I will just ignore it.

*Click*

I entered my house and went straight into my room before taking out my bed from my inventory.

"Ah... finally some good rest..." I threw myself into the bed and closed my eyes sightly to enjoy the warm feeling I was experiencing right now.

After some minutes of enjoying myself I finally took a seat and started reading the contents of the letter.

[Dear Aspen.

I hope you have been doing well wherever you have decided to make your house, because we have been certainly not doing so well, and that's one of the reasons I have decided to ask for your assistance in this matter.

You see, since a few weeks ago we have been receiving several cases of cultists abducting children or children just disappearing without leaving a trace]

After I finished reading that, my heart turned cold and my eyes lost their previous leisureliness. After all one of the reasons I ended up sacrificing my own life for the sake of humanity was because of the kids and their families that lived in that city, as I didn't want them to experience what I experienced when I was a kid after that Goblin invasion.

Protecting the honor of humanity and fighting for this country was completely trivial to me. As I didn't care about that at all.

[We have noticed that the actions of the Cultists suddenly became more and more active as the days pass, so there's the possibility of the cultists preparing something in the near future. That's why I request for you to help us once again as it is possible that something big may be coming, and I fear that this time we might not be able to overcome it.

Atte: Easton]

...

Sigh... let's just hope that I don't have to fight Cthulhu itself just for the sake of these kids...

I might go crazy if that happens.

??? POV:

...

Unexpectedly, the ritual actually was going to take even less time of what we thought at the beginning. All we needed to do now was to wait a few more days and our Lord could finally descend upon this cursed city filled with hopes and dreams from its inhabitants.

Just the feeling of be able to hear their screams of desperation to all those fools that couldn't understand the true Salvation made me shiver in excitement.

Also, that alchemist could probably arrive at this city within a few days more, after all the letter from the militia has already been sent and he probably has already received it. Which meant that I could be finally able to test whether I was a worthy apostle of our God by fighting a descendant of a Dryad...

Soon the chaotic energy within my body started circulating rapidly at the excitement I was feeling for mutilating him alive and offering him to our god.

I licked my lips in anticipation and continued waiting on my throne for the moment when this alchemist arrived in the city. Ready to start a bloody battle for the sake of proving myself worthy to my God.

What could win, The power of Order from the nature itself? Or the power of Chaos bestowed to me by the Great Cthulhu? Only the future could say.

Or not.

Double trouble for our MC!

No rest for our MC!

No calm days for our MC!

That's the Dao of this story...

... No not really, I'll try to give Aspen a few days of rest whenever he deserves it... though not that many as I have a story to write and I need content. Srry Aspen :P

That's all for today guys, see ya next time.
