America 1881: Legend of the West

Chapter 611 Good and fun-loving

The mayor walked out of the auditorium.

He originally planned to go home for dinner and then go to bed directly after eating.

But after thinking about it seriously, he decided to visit Captain Harrison of the National Guard and discuss with him what to do next.

The mayor mounted his horse and headed towards the northern camp where Harrison was located.

The sun is almost setting.

After riding around for more than half an hour, the mayor saw a bonfire not far away.

There is nothing particularly particular about the layout of National Guard camps.

Various tents are scattered throughout the camp.

Militiamen walked back and forth in the camp

, drinking, roasting and bragging around the campfire.

If he didn't know better, the mayor would have thought this was a large-scale hunting camp.

Major Harrison was worthy of being a captain of the militia.

He decisively merged with his soldiers and was playing cards in an open space beside the campfire.

"Hey, hey, if you lose, don't play around. I'm willing to admit defeat. Your snuff bottle belongs to me." Major Harrison threw the cards in his hand to the ground and pointed at a bearded militiaman next to him.

Others were making noises, like a group of people who had lost their hair.

The bearded man reluctantly handed the snuff bottle into Harrison's hand.

The mayor coughed behind them.

Harrison turned his head, holding a cigarette in his mouth. After discovering that it was the mayor, the original unbridled smile on his face softened a lot.

"Looking for me?" Harrison pointed to himself.

The mayor nodded.

Harrison threw the cards in his hand to another soldier behind him, stood up and came to the side with the mayor.

"Major, don't we really want to talk to the Chinese leaders across the street? Send them an ultimatum or something. I don't think they are in a hurry at all." The mayor was a little uneasy.

The major frowned: "You don't really plan to fight with those Chinese, do you?"

"I don't really want to fight, but what if the other side fails? I want to hear what your plans are, Major."

The major put his arm around the mayor's shoulders and said to him "seriously":

"Hey man, I don't know if you've ever tried to duel someone."

The mayor shrugged:

"Well, ten years ago, or earlier, cowboys in the West liked to solve problems in this way, but now there are very few of them."

The major patted him on the shoulder:

"Uh, yeah, I mean, you're right."

"But sometimes, the outcome of a duel is not necessarily decided after the gun is drawn, but the outcome is determined beforehand."

"What's important in a duel is not to draw the gun first, but to take action first when the opponent can't bear the pressure, but you knock down the opponent before he pulls the trigger."

"I have won many duels this way." The major said proudly, "Most of those who struck first died."

The mayor was somewhat slanderous about the captain's remarks.

If you don't want to take the blame, just say so. If you want to be a bitch, you also want to set up a memorial.

However, he did not say it out loud, but listened to the captain talk:

"Starting from tomorrow, every two days, I will move the camp a little further, step by step, and shrink the encirclement. This is called extreme pressure."

"When our gun barrels are about to reach the mouths of those Chinese, I believe that either those Chinese will take action first, or they will not be able to withstand the pressure and choose to make peace with us."

The captain's strategy sounds seamless, but he ignores the subjective initiative of the town's residents.

Just as he was explaining his "great plan" to the mayor, a burst of gunfire suddenly came from the southeast of the camp.

"What's going on?" The captain was very alert.

"It seems, it seems to be in the direction of the Chinese settlement." The mayor judged the source of the sound earlier than the captain.

Then he slapped his thigh suddenly: "Oh no, something happened!"

Captain Harrison understood what the mayor meant almost instantly.

"Gather, gather, hurry up!" he shouted loudly.

Their guesses were correct.

Someone did take action.

After receiving the "order" from the mayor, the old man with white beard immediately gathered the militants in the town.

These people include relatives of the townspeople who died at the hands of Lin Sanshan ten years ago, some "faith staunchers" who are extremely hostile to the Chinese, and many people who are afraid of chaos in the world.

"Brothers, sisters, the group of people on the opposite side of the children's wasteland have a blood feud with us. If we didn't have a chance in the past ten years, then this time, the state government finally decided to solve this problem."

"Our dead relatives are begging us to avenge them. If no one is willing to start, then we will be the ones to ignite the war!"

"Pick up your guns and kill the Chinese on the other side! We want revenge! Drive them out of our homes!"

The white-bearded old man's speech was extremely passionate and inflammatory, and the people below also screamed.

Texas, as a traditional western state, has always had a strong sense of martial ethics. It can solve problems with guns without resorting to words.

The old man's idea is also very simple.

Since the National Guard is nearby, they will never ignore it if a fight breaks out.

The mayor is right, dinner time is a good opportunity.

The Chinese were busy eating dinner. As long as they launched a surprise attack, the Chinese would be absolutely unprepared.

I have no authority to give orders to the National Guard.

But as soon as the war resumes, it will be out of their hands.

More than two thousand people plus these people in their own town, still can't take down those Chinese?

The old man didn't believe it.

With the fifty or sixty people he had gathered, he quickly crossed the wasteland and reached the outer edge of the Chinese settlement.

"Go in and set their house on fire!"

The old man squatted in the grass and said to the people around him.

Then, they were "revealed" by a sudden headlight.

"Everyone with guns in the wasteland, please don't go any further! You are invading private territory. If you want to enter, please put down your weapons!" The loudspeaker in the settlement suddenly rang.

This was a high-power incandescent lamp with a reflector behind it. The white light was so dazzling that the old man couldn't open his eyes.

The person being illuminated raised his arms to cover his eyes.

The old man had no idea how he was discovered.

The people under his command also looked at him and asked about his next move.

The loudspeaker at the stronghold sounded again, but this time the words were a little harsher.

"...If we don't put down the guns, then we will take tougher measures, just like we did ten years ago."

When the old man heard "ten years ago", he couldn't bear it anymore.

He suddenly stood up from the grass, picked up the gun and shot at the lamp:

"I'm going to your mother!"

The gun was very accurate, there was only a "pop" sound, and even the reflector of the light belt was instantly smashed to pieces.

This shot, the shattered lamp, became the clarion call for the battle to officially begin.

Intensive gunshots rang out instantly.

Several more lights were turned on in the watchtower of the settlement, but they were quickly knocked down by the townspeople, so both sides began to fight in the dark.

The townspeople also took this opportunity to sneak to the outskirts of the settlement.

But they were soon dumbfounded.

The perimeter is surrounded by barbed wire.

After hanging up two burnt "bacon"s, the townspeople also knew that the power grid was energized, so they could no longer move forward.

At the same time, Lin Sanshan, who was having dinner, also received news of an attack outside the town.

Without saying a word, he dropped the dishes and chopsticks in his hand, put his gun on his back and rushed out.

Support from the town arrived quickly.

"Turn on another light and sweep the surrounding area as quickly as possible." Lin Sanshan found a good observation position and gave the order.

Another light comes on.

The light swept across the wasteland outside, then died with another gunshot.

However, the experienced Lin Sanshan has already found the enemy's direction.

He picked up his automatic rifle and fired in that direction.

The Chinese soldiers behind him followed suit.

The old man with the white beard groaned, was shot in the thigh, and was quickly dragged back by the people behind him.

There were a few more corpses on the wasteland.

Old hatreds have not been settled, but new hatreds have arisen.

The old man thought that he could hold on for a while longer in the dark night, but he didn't know that the other side would react so quickly.

However, he raised his head and suddenly found a little firelight in the distance to the north.

The National Guard finally arrived.
