Apocalypse: Mad Necromancer’s Troops

Chapter 13: Level 7 Skeleton

Chapter 13: Level 7 Skeleton

"A body?"

The steward picked up a dark cane by the desk, walking as he spoke, "The wanted criminal you killed had committed several serious crimes in multiple towns. He fled to Blackstone Town, but didn’t expect to meet his end at your hands.

The official appointment from the headquarters will take some time, but I can offer you some benefits now, like a legal skeleton."

Hearing this, Wu Heng’s heart stirred.

"I can summon an undead creature now?"

"Not officially yet, but you can summon it first. After all, in this weather, it’s not easy to preserve a body. You’ll need to wait for the official appointment to take the skeleton with you."

It seemed the Adventurer’s Association had considerable influence in the area.

They were confident the higher-ups would approve his joining and allow him to keep the skeleton.

"Understood," Wu Heng nodded and added, "There was another accomplice who escaped last night."

"The Blackstone Town guards will conduct a search of the crowded district, but you should remain cautious."

"Understood."

The two walked together, descending the stairs into an underground room.

In the cold room, several iron beds were lined up, one of which held the body of the criminal Wu Heng had killed.

The body had been re-identified, and all clothing had been removed, leaving it naked on the bed.

"Go ahead with the transformation," the steward said, leaning on his cane at the doorway.

Wu Heng didn’t hesitate, stepping forward to cast Raise Skeleton.

【The summoned creature's power far exceeds the summoner's capacity. Instability factors increased...】

The system prompt appeared as Wu Heng’s mental energy began to drain rapidly.

Meanwhile, the flesh of the corpse began to slough off, revealing the bones underneath.

The transformation quickly completed, and a broad skeleton slowly sat up.

Its hollow eye sockets flickered with eerie blue soul flames.

【Skeleton Thief (Level 7)】

A level 7 skeleton, and its name had changed from Skeleton Warrior to Skeleton Thief.

This must be related to its profession when alive.

The presence of soul fire indicated it had a basic soul, similar to the transformed Teddy.

The skeleton climbed off the iron bed, its empty eye sockets sweeping over the two men present before moving to stand by Wu Heng’s side.

The steward stood nearby, saying, "You indeed have talent. However, you can't take this skeleton with you yet to avoid causing trouble."

"I understand," Wu Heng nodded and commanded the Skeleton Thief, "Stay here and follow Mr. Yazde’s orders."

The blue soul fire flickered as the skeleton nodded slightly, then retreated to a corner, standing still like a statue.

The steward smiled and said, "Let’s go. We shouldn’t stay too long in this cold environment."

Wu Heng nodded and followed him out of the cellar.

"Alright, that’s it for today. Once the appointment letter arrives, I’ll have someone notify you," the steward paused slightly before continuing, "By the way, the guards in the hall have already left. I’ll make sure the town hall is informed as well."

"Thank you," Wu Heng expressed his gratitude.

Returning to the hall, the guards were indeed gone.

All of this felt somewhat surreal.

After killing a wanted criminal, so many events had unfolded.

But so far, the Adventurer’s Association seemed to be beneficial to him.

If everything the steward said came to pass, it could indeed change his current situation.

Whether becoming an adventurer was good or bad was still unclear; he would have to take it one step at a time.

By the time he returned to the crowded district, it was already afternoon.

After a hearty meal at the tavern, he headed back to his residence.

……

Once home, Wu Heng took out the skill book he had acquired.

【Acid Splash】

(Description: Releases an acid ball, causing strong acid damage to the target.)

Although it wasn’t what he imagined a mage’s skill to be, it was still useful.

Throwing acid seemed like it could deal significant damage and had a certain insulting nature.

He opened the book and began reading.

The booklet wasn’t thick, but it was filled with dense text and some diagrams explaining the principles.

In truth, after some exposure, the principles of magic weren’t that profound.

A spell could be understood as an independent effect transformation, where the caster reshapes the ambient energy and materializes it in a specific way.

Once you could do that, you could cast the corresponding spell.

The challenge lay in the fact that all of this had to be completed in an instant—there wasn’t time to chant for three to five minutes on an actual battlefield.

Wu Heng carefully read through the book, and as he reached the last page...

A prompt appeared.

【Skill unlocked: Acid Splash】

The moment the prompt appeared, Wu Heng breathed a sigh of relief.

Like the profession book, just reading it thoroughly unlocked the corresponding ability.

If he had to learn and analyze it in detail, mastering a single skill would take an enormous amount of time and effort.

【Name: Wu Heng】

【Profession: Necromancer】

【Level: 3 (94/2700)】

【Attributes: Strength 9, Agility 11, Constitution 13, Intelligence 16, Perception 10, Charisma 13.】

【Skills: Raise Skeleton, Acid Splash.】

Checking his attribute panel, Wu Heng saw that Acid Splash had indeed been added to his skills.

In addition, his level had reached 3, with a significant increase in attributes.

Closing the booklet, he headed straight for the zombie world.

……

In the zombie world.

The skeleton squad stood stiffly on the rooftop, like a row of terracotta warriors.

They were still bare bones for now, but if they were all dressed in armor and helmets, wielding proper weapons, they’d resemble an army of terracotta warriors.

At least their rigid posture was almost identical.

The skeleton dog ran over from the back of the skeleton squad, sitting on the ground and looking up at him, its bony tail wagging and scraping against the ground.

Wu Heng patted its bony head, then walked to the edge of the rooftop and looked down.

It seemed that due to yesterday’s survivor, the zombies in the area had been drawn away by the bus, chasing after it.

Only five or six zombies were left wandering below.

Seeing the zombies, Wu Heng decided to test the skill’s effect.

He gathered Acid Splash and cast it at one of the zombies.

A dark green acid ball flew down from the rooftop, splattering near the zombie’s feet.

Although it didn’t hit, he could still see the corrosive effect where the acid landed.

However, the effect lasted only a few seconds before fading.

Roar~!

The zombie was startled by the sudden attack, crouching slightly and roaring as it looked around.

But it didn’t notice the person and skeleton dog peeking from the rooftop.

"The effect is mediocre," Wu Heng muttered.

He lost interest in further testing the skill.

He put on the armor he had taken from the wanted criminal, while the slightly inferior one was placed on the sword-wielding skeleton.

"Follow me." With a wave of his hand, the skeletons immediately moved, following him into the stairwell.

……

Creak~!

The tightly shut stairwell door opened with a tooth-grinding creak.

The wandering zombies immediately turned their heads towards the stairwell, roaring as they charged.

But as soon as they entered the stairwell, countless cleavers fell upon them.

The zombies were chopped to pieces on the spot.
