Apocalypse: Mad Necromancer’s Troops

Chapter 21: My Judgment is Always Spot-On

Chapter 21: My Judgment is Always Spot-On

The word "Madam" carried an inexplicable allure.

But the name "Golden Panther" was quite famous in Blackstone Town.

Or rather, it was too famous in men’s circles.

In taverns, it was common to hear men talk about which girl at the "Golden Panther" was fair-skinned or what new dance performances were happening.

The "Golden Panther," however, was different from regular brothels; it wasn’t a place for flesh trade but an entertainment venue with song and dance performances.

According to Wu Heng’s understanding, it was more like a borderline establishment.

But he had only heard a bit about it and didn’t expect the boss behind it to be a woman, let alone a member of the Adventurer’s Guild.

"Which team is she part of?" Wu Heng continued to ask.

Karvina replied, "She’s the Deputy Deacon of Blackstone Town, not part of a team."

Deputy Deacon? That’s quite a bit of power.

Over time, it might be impossible to avoid contact with her, so it would be best to maintain a good relationship and avoid having her dig up any scandals about him.

The two chatted a bit more about the boss behind the "Golden Panther."

Meanwhile, Captain Ottoluck continued, "Let me tell you about the teams in Blackstone Town."

"Alright."

"Besides our newly established team, there were previously three other teams. The first team was the earliest formed, led by a warrior named 'Arnel.' The second team’s leader is the warlock 'Tulisa,' and the third team’s leader is the ranger 'Nacho.' Their teams have been around for a while, and each one has five members."

Listening, Wu Heng learned that there were three fully staffed teams.

It was only because they formed a new fourth team that he was recruited.

Thus, he became a member of the Adventurer’s Guild.

As for the names of the three leaders, he was already starting to forget them as he heard them.

The only name that stuck was Lady Slette of the "Golden Panther."

"Alright, just listen for now. You’ll get familiar with it over time," the captain continued.

"Okay!"

……

The train returned to Blackstone Town, arriving just before dusk.

At the station, Blackstone Town’s guards took over custody of Achido and the deathly aura-emitting jar.

At this point, the adventurer team’s mission was considered complete.

The rest would be handled by Blackstone Town.

Captain Ottoluck and Pramon exchanged a few words before parting ways, with Ottoluck heading to the Adventurer’s Guild to report.

Wu Heng and Karvina could head home for now, and they would be informed if anything else came up.

Bidding them farewell, Wu Heng headed towards his residence.

The adventurer team’s mission wasn’t as simple as 'Yazd' had made it seem.

The investigation team had nine members in total, three of whom died, with the rest all injured to varying degrees.

If they hadn’t confirmed that one of them was Achido’s butler, it would have been difficult to gather substantial evidence to pin this on Achido.

Who knows how many more people that death magic jar might have killed otherwise.

Black magic is truly terrifying.

No wonder people are so averse to necromancers—it’s not without reason.

Returning home, Wu Heng was just about to head to the zombie world to check things out.

There was a knock on the door.

"Wu Heng, is that you back?"

It was the landlord’s voice.

Wu Heng opened the door to see a middle-aged man with rough skin and a beard longer than his hair standing at the door. "Mr. Ludger."

Ludger was the owner of this house, in other words, the landlord.

"Yes, Wu Heng, have you gotten yourself into some trouble?" Ludger quickly stepped into the room, getting straight to the point.

Wu Heng frowned, recalling the fugitive’s accomplice who had escaped.

He asked, "Did something happen?"

"I was going to ask you what’s going on. Why have guards been coming around here so often these past few days? I rented this place to you because I thought you were decent, but don’t go causing me any trouble," the landlord said, sitting down at the table.

He glanced at the figure wearing a round helmet nearby, frowned, and added, "Also, I rented this place to you alone. Don’t go bringing just anyone here."

The skeleton Basen was fully covered, but the crossbow bolt holes in its leather armor were still visible.

Plus, the round helmet looked odd and didn’t resemble anything a regular resident would wear.

Wu Heng quickly understood what he meant.

With the guards and adventurer team frequently visiting, the landlord was starting to sense something was off.

After all, it was just a rental, and nobody wants trouble.

Good thing he didn’t know that Wu Heng had killed someone here; otherwise, he might have kicked him out.

"It’s a misunderstanding. I’ve joined the adventurer team, and yesterday I was assisting the city guards with an investigation. I haven’t done anything wrong."

As he spoke, he took out the copper insignia given to him by the Adventurer’s Guild.

The landlord was momentarily stunned, then surprised, and quickly put on a smile.

"I knew you’d make something of yourself. My judgment is always spot-on."

The landlord’s attitude shifted instantly.

He no longer mentioned causing trouble, instead praising Wu Heng for his abilities and bright future.

He even offered to introduce Wu Heng to a potential match, listing off three or four candidates, including a girl from one family and a widow from another street.

But Wu Heng just listened politely without taking it too seriously.

An adventurer’s field agent didn’t actually have any law enforcement powers, but to ordinary people, it was still a somewhat special role.

Wu Heng chatted with him for a while, reassuring him that he wouldn’t cause any trouble.

The landlord laughed heartily, even thinking that Wu Heng living there would improve the neighborhood’s security.

Not long after, the landlord left.

Wu Heng checked out the zombie world, brought back some goods, and had Skeleton Basen carry them as he left the house.

……

Adventurer’s Guild, conference room.

Four people sat on either side of a long conference table.

The Blackstone Town Adventurer’s Guild had four teams in total, and since Ottoluck had just returned, he was called to join the meeting.

The deacon hadn’t arrived yet, so the group was relaxed.

The first team leader asked, "Ottoluck, I heard your team recruited a necromancer?"

"Yes, our team was short on people, so we recruited a new member," Ottoluck replied calmly.

The third team leader said, "I know about that. The deacon recruited him personally and wanted to assign him to our team…."

He didn’t finish, but the meaning was clear.

The third team didn’t take him, so he was assigned to the fourth team.

The second team’s female leader glanced at Ottoluck and said, "If you’re short on people, use him for now. We can talk about it later."

The first team leader continued, "Yesterday was your first mission, right? How did he perform?"

"He performed very well, beyond my expectations."

"Haha, don’t exaggerate. He’s only been in the role for a few days—just not being a burden is good enough," the third team leader scoffed, clearly not believing it.

Ottoluck didn’t argue.

The others just chuckled and dropped the subject.

At that moment, the door opened.

Deacon ‘Yazd,’ leaning on a wooden cane, entered and took the head seat.

He immediately said, "The fourth team performed exceptionally well on this investigation of the mining village, especially team member Wu Heng, who received praise from the town hall. Due to the inaccurate information from Blackstone Town, your team’s reward will be doubled, along with an additional mid-level item reward."

His words left all the team leaders stunned.

The town hall, praising a necromancer?

What did he do?
