Celia: After Dying in the Apocalypse, I Live Once Again!

Chapter 7: New Prey.

Hello! This is my latest novel! Unlike my other novels, this one isn't finished yet. The first volume is finished, though. And you can buy it on Amazon here. If you would be so kind, you can also get the first volume(and anything else I've made.) on my Patreon for donating $10 or over that, here. If you wish for updates, the $10 and over tiers will give you access to chapters when I actually finish them. (Maybe one a day? Idk, as I will be mainly working on other novels as well. But, there will at least be one new chapter every few days.)

Chapter 7: New Prey.

*Celia’s POV*

This dude truly has it out for me. It could swim for miles and miles in this new life soup of ours, and yet, it tries to find me. Rather than just find me, I would say that it wants to eat me…

As I have already swam away from it, I found it good to know that it is still slow as fuck. At least I managed to get away from it before it used that lunge ability... Why does it even wish to chase me around? I thought that these cells don’t really have thought processes?

System: “That cell prioritizes unique cells. It needs to consume such cells so that it can evolve. As such, it has long since marked you as a high priority target to consume.” She explained.

Celia: “Ah, so that’s why… Thanks for explaining.” I say with a sigh.

Much like a machine, she didn’t reply after what I said to her. It was mostly like I was talking to a very, very primitive AI chat bot…

Though I swam away like a mad woman, I somehow ended up swimming near some prey. Maybe it was my instincts that caused this? Whatever the cause, it is now time to eat my fill!

And by that, I mean that I have to actually hunt. These cells are ones that I can kill, but not easily. In fact, Prey Sense, only seems to highlight prey that will increase my levels.

Time for a fight! Swimming up to a cell that is slightly bigger than me, I attack its backside via a bite. Unlike other cells, this one turned around, and tried to bite me back.

Dodging in a water like environment, was sorta difficult. But I managed to dodge the cells bite, before landing another bite on it. This back and forth went on for a long time.

It was odd actually having to deal with a real fight in this second life of mine. I have fought people before, and with different types of weapons, but this kind of fight is new to me.

As such, it took like an entire hour or so, just to kill this one cell. The fight was hard, and I was pretty messed up from it. It goes without saying, but I did munch on a few smaller cells, so that I could regain my HP. Of course, before I went to fight that cell.

But even with full HP, I am now down to only 15 of it. Until now, this situation really didn’t feel real at all. Yes, I still stubbornly held on to the idea that this MIGHT not be real at all.

This fight just now proved the reality of this entire situation. I truly did reincarnate, I really do have a System, and I really, really need to evolve into a human as soon as I can…

Checking my Status, I got 15 Exp from killing that cell. That amount might sound odd, considering that the electric cell would have given me only 5 Exp. But, this one was harder to kill, and was slightly bigger than that one.

It seems that the harder it is to kill something, the more Exp that you get from actually managing to kill it off. After the fight, I was quite hungry, so I started to eat the cell that I just killed. Once again, there was no real taste to it at all. Which kinda sucked.

Imagine ordering a steak that cost you a few hundred dollars to afford, just to have it taste like absolutely nothing at all. As you would expect, it was not fun at all.

*Some Time Later.*

I have killed and eaten many more difficult to kill cells, and now I am level 8. I do wonder when I can evolve once more? Maybe I have to get to level 10 once again? Well, anyway, here is my Status at the moment.

Though I did not have any upgrades to get, I asked the System what I could do with extra SIP’s. She told me that I can use them to increase my Stats.

My Stats do increase with every level that I get, but not by much. That small improvement you see, is from me using many of my SIP’s.

As for my HP, it increases in a way I still do not fully understand. I like brain games, so I haven’t asked the System how it works yet. The other Stats increase by one with every SIP that I put into it.

Unlike in a game, I can actually feel how each Stat increase affects my body. At first, killing these prey cells took a lot of effort on my part. Now, sure, I still have to try, but it is far easier than my first kill earlier.

Honestly, I would have grinded up to level 10, but I actually ate all of those cells to extinction. The only other cells, where the massive ones, and then the small ones. I was actually stuck now, and with nothing else to do, I decided to ask the System about this. Or not, since she could just read my thoughts anyway, and answer me without me asking at all.

System: “You overate them. It will take some time for other cells to evolve to the point where they’re most suitable for you to hunt.” She said.

Celia: “So, I should have waited for them to mate, and then continue eating them? Dammit! I wish I knew that before I went on a hunting spree…” I say with a sad tone.

System: “That is correct.” She replied.

Celia: “Then what should I do in the meantime? And how long will it take for them to evolve?” I ask with a head tilt, via my nonexistent head.

System: “A few years.” She answered.

Celia: “…”

System: “As a special service to you, I shall spawn the cells once more.” She said.

Celia: “What? You can do that!?” I ask with a shocked tone.

System: “Yes, and no. It is only possible, due to the fact that cells do not have souls, and are very small.” She answered.

Celia: “Please do then! I am also sorry for overeating them.” I say with a happy tone.

There was a huge flash, and then there were now those same cells everywhere around me. A very special service indeed! Now I can surely get to at least level 10! As such, the hunt shall begin once more!
