Weekly Chapter 2/6

The girl did not give up.

It was a very cold day. Unlike the older girl who did nothing but cry, the younger girl prayed, she didn’t believe her father was to blame. The girl looked foolish. There was a big uproar when a military man said that they would punish him.

She cried as she clung to her sister’s skirt. The younger girl who had struggled, finally the men kicked her. She vomited blood.

“Lord, Lord! My father is not guilty! My father is a reader! My father is a good man who entertains people with stories!”

But in the end nothing changed. The reader couldn’t take the blows, so he slowly died. Then she asked him the day his body was buried,

“How could you lie? He didn’t touch your sister.”

“I know. But that’s not the only way to harass.”

“Then what?”

“It’s the book he read. Please don’t think about this anymore. Rumors originating from the town are often the most distorted.”

“Your sister is a cruel person.”

He swallowed his tea with a smile on his face.

It was noon but it was snowing heavily.

***

It was a dream.

Jihak looked silently at the woman’s face. A face so small it fit in his palm.

Perhaps she had fallen asleep while reading.

Jihak carefully stroked Eunha’s face, which lay sleeping on the hard floor. She looked like she was dreaming. How could she fall asleep so easily? He was curious, but decided not to check.

The sun remained high overhead. He rose with a grin on his face. Despite being in slumber, her grip on his hand had not loosened. He could understand her actions.

He didn’t hate her. It was amazing that she was in his thoughts.

He carefully carried her to the mat. Then he covered her body with a warm blanket.

Jihak, who looked up at the closed window, held her in his arms. She fell asleep, not even paying attention to her surroundings.

This is ridiculous. Normally, I would have held a knife to her throat.

Jihak stroked her earlobes, then her upper body and kissed her nose. Then she slowly opened her eyes. It seemed that she was still in a dream. But soon she closed her eyes again.

Last night she didn’t even want him to touch her.

It also seemed that she mistook reality for a dream.

Did that mean she would allow him anything in her dreams?

He decided to enjoy this quiet evening. She would wake up hungry anyway. He didn’t plan to allow Eunha to leave until nightfall.

She never wanted to give up. When she slightly cried, her red eyes were as beautiful as a deer’s eyes. He thought he would never see those eyes again.

He kissed Eunha’s eyelids. The sunlight, which had grown dimmer, colored her cheeks. Jihak moved his body to block the sunlight.

He didn’t want anything to touch that skin. Even if it was a twisted possessive desire.

This woman, named Eunha.

***

Eunha entered the store with a puzzled expression. When the owner recognized her, she cheerfully approached. She looked at the two men beside her.

“Eunha? Do you want to match clothes?”

“Yes. But…”

Yuljae approached Eunha. He was wearing ordinary clothes.

“You have to make it with the most luxurious fabric here.”

“What? Yes! I’ll do it.”

Eunha lowered her head.

It was four days before the snowfall stopped. She fell asleep while reading a book for Jihak, and when she awoke it was night.

They sat across from each other at the small table to eat what Park had brought. That was all. After they finished their meal, she went back to reading.

It repeated for four more days. The only thing that changed was that one day when she woke up, she was on top of Jihak’s manhood.
