Demon King Ascension System

Chapter 227 - 227 Minor Pure Soul

227 Minor Pure Soul

Blake looked at the three soul orbs that floated around him. They all looked quite similar to each other, but they were very unfamiliar to Blake. The souls that he used to see were the completely dark souls that would come out of a demon’s body. But right now, three souls were floating above human’s dead bodies and their primary color was white.

And Blake thought their primary color was white because they didn’t only have the white color.

Just like he had seen earlier with the other police officer’s souls, the white orbs that floated around him all had dark spots on them. Although the number of black spots found on their souls differs from each other.

While the soul orb of the other police officer had several black spots here and there, Jake’s father’s soul orb was almost split evenly 50 – 50 in the white and black color. It’s not a clean split in half where one half was white and the other half was black, the soul orb had a similar design to tie-dye shirts with the scattered color being the black spots.

On the other hand, Jake’s soul was the whitest of the three as there were only a couple of small dark spots found in his soul orb.

‘I wonder why those soul orbs looked different from each other…’ Back in the demon realm, no matter what kind of demons they were, their souls would all have the same color and shape. The only two things that made them different from each other were their taste and the equivalent number of souls that each soul gave.

“Well, whatever, souls are still souls, right?” Without thinking too much about it, Blake grabbed the other police officer’s soul and put it in his mouth.

Blake had thought about swallowing the soul right away as he didn’t expect that the soul would have any sweet taste to it because he killed the other police officer almost instantly.

However, when the soul had actually made contact with his tongue, Blake’s mouth stopped moving, heck, even his whole body was frozen in place as he felt an unreasonably sweet-tasting flavor in his mouth.

.....

The taste was similar to when he ate the brownish demon’s soul for the first time. The sheer taste of it was enough to make his whole body tremble slightly as he savored the taste in his mouth.

Blake had been wanting to taste this kind of sweetness again but had always failed to harvest a similar-tasting soul ever since, and it was his first time ever tasting another soul that had a similar level of sweetness. Blake did not think about anything else as he savored the taste with his eyes closed and the soul orb rolling on his tongue.

And after only Blake had swallowed it that he finally returned back to the world, his eyes looking satisfied as if he had just tasted the best dessert ever.

When he swallowed the soul, the same sweet feeling lingered, but after it reached his stomach, there was very little savoriness to it, which made Blake think that it was due to the police officer being a terribly weak creature that the soul probably only gave him 1 or 2 souls worth of souls.

“There was a lack of savoriness in it, but the sweet taste definitely boosted up the whole experience,” Blake said as he moved on to the other soul.

The other nearest soul to the police officer’s soul was Jake’s father’s soul. It had the most unique-looking soul out of the tree and Blake was certainly excited to try it. He would never get bored of the light addictive sweet taste that a soul had, and having more could only be better as he could not get sick of it.

Without wasting more time, Blake also grabbed Jake’s father’s soul and put it into his mouth. Blake expected another wave of sweet-tasting flavor would crash into his mouth, but when the soul had actually got into his mouth, a wave of disappointment was what Blake felt as he tasted a lack of sweetness in the soul.

It did have a sweet flavor, but it was the regular kind that Blake got when he made sure to take his time with his enemies and killed them slowly to make sure their souls had that additional flavor when he ate them.

And when he swallowed the soul, it gave the same bland flavor as the other police officer. It had a tinge of savoriness, but that was it.

“Well that’s disappointing,” Blake muttered as his eyes darted onto the last soul that he hadn’t eaten yet.

The one soul that had the least amount of black spots compared to the other two, and the one that Blake had actually kind of looked forward to eating.

There were many people who had bullied him. Jake was not the only one that did it. If Blake had to count them, his hands alone wouldn’t be enough and he would need to use his toes to list them all.

However, Jake was the recent one in his life, and one of the most active bullies that he had. Whether it was him having a bad mood then beating up Blake to improve his or when Blake was the one in a good mood and he didn’t like to see it, he also beat up Blake to make sure he wasn’t happier than him.

Jake was one of the most memorable bullies that he had. And now seeing how his father acted and knowing what kind of person had raised him, Blake could only nod his head in understanding as he saw an actual real-life representation of the saying ‘the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.’

But of course, understanding something didn’t mean that he empathized with the kid. Hearing the bully scream his heart out before he helplessly turned limp under Blake’s own spell was one of the sweetest feelings that he could feel other than tasting a sweet-flavored soul.

And right now, eating the boy’s soul would be the closing deal that would pay off all the debts that the kid owed him.

Blake took a good look at the soul. The almost pure white soul that came out of the boy’s body somehow looked more interesting and also appetizing for him compared to the usual demon souls that he had eaten or the two recent souls that had just entered his mouth and had been digested.

If he had to make a guess about the soul’s color, then following the myths and stories from the religions that he knew, the black spots might be a sign of someone who had sinned. And the more black color that the soul had, the more sins they had committed.

It would make sense why Jake’s father’s soul would have so many dark spots if he was the kind of person that would go out of his way to help his son beat up another kid that couldn’t even use magic. And that would also make sense why demons, who were said to be the embodiment of evil, would have a pure black soul orb.

“But going by that logic, this Jake kid should have a little more black spots, shouldn’t he?”

He had bullied him enough for Blake to know the kid couldn’t be anything but not pure, but there were only a couple of dark spots. It didn’t make a lot of sense to Blake.

“Ah, whatever, that’s not really a theory that I need to prove, right now.”

Blake then gently put the soul in his mouth, making sure that he wouldn’t miss any notes of flavor that the soul would give. Whether it had a unique taste as it was one of the fruits of revenge that he harvested for himself or it didn’t matter at all and it tasted like any ordinary soul, Blake did not want to hurry to eat it.

However, when the soul had actually entered his mouth, Blake could not believe what he tasted as he dropped to his knees.

‘This!… This!…’ He thought aloud in his mind as he would not allow his mouth to open, afraid that the taste would disperse to his surroundings if he did so.

‘This is the tastiest soul I had in my entire life!’

Blake didn’t even care to get up and fix himself as he literally kneeled on the ground, his four limbs supporting his whole body from hugging the floor. Blake had just eaten the most addictive-tasting soul in his entire life. He currently didn’t have any other thoughts about anything else in his mind.

The taste itself had even transcended the ‘sweet’ taste that Blake recognized so far. Blake didn’t know what kind of taste it was, his brain only registered the taste as something that he really liked, something that he wanted more, something that he absolutely needed in his life.

And it seems that Blake’s claim was somehow backed by the system.

After he savored the soul quietly while trembling on his knees, Blake finally swallowed the soul into his stomach after spending a full 5 minutes rolling the soul in his mouth, and the system’s cold mechanical voice resounded in his head.

Unfortunately for Blake who had just felt euphoria, the system’s voice had jerked him back to the world.

[A minor pure soul had been consumed. One additional unused status point had been given to the Host.]

[Congratulations! The minor pure soul had helped the system in gathering the nether needed to send Host back to the demon realm! Estimated time will be updated right away!]

‘Shit! The time! I haven’t said my goodbyes to Amy yet!’
