Dragon Hermit

Chapter 51: Choosing a Present

“Whose eyes are you going to dig again?” The door opened and Le Wenqing entered while carrying a few shopping bags. She then nodded at Xia Yan and said, “You’ll never find a boyfriend with how violent you are!”

“If the people who are pursuing me were to line up, the line would cover a few kilometers, okay?!” Zhang Shufen retorted and took off her facial mask after standing up before asking, “Did you get the things I asked for?”

“Isn’t it just sanitary pads? I was also running out of them recently so there’s no way I would forget to buy them,” Le Wenqing responded casually and took out two boxes from one of the bags in passing and tossed them over to Zhang Shufen while complaining, “My menstruation cycle has synced with yours ever since moving in with you. Just what the hell is going on?!”

“They say that the menstrual cycle of roommates becomes synchronized because of some hormone’s influence!” Zhang Shufen replied while catching the boxes.

“Aren’t you practicing Dao magic? Is there some magic to prevent the menstruation from occurring?” Le Wenqing tossed the bags onto the table and massaged her feet after sitting on the sofa while sighing, “It’s so tough to live as a woman!”

“There is one. All regular men can use this magic and if it succeeds, it will protect you from the menstruation cycle for a whole year!” Zhang Shufen smiled weirdly.

“Xia Yan, can you use this magic?” Le Wenqing took a sip from the glass of water and asked him suddenly while directing her gaze at him.

Their conversation which didn’t seem to consider the existence of the man beside them had already stupefied Xia Yan. [Sisters, why are you so tough? Are you really treating a pure man like me as your bosom friend?”

“Uhm… Well…” Xia Yan felt that he was simply acting weak in front of these girls and falling into the pace of a virgin boy. [Although I’m indeed a virgin, is it really fine for you both to act like this?]

“The cooldown time of Xia Yan’s magic spell must be too long. Hahaha…” Zhang Shufen broke into laughter midway and even Le Wenqing couldn’t hold back from following after her. The two were fully satisfied by his reaction. After all, younger men loved elder sister-types the most.

Xia Yan wanted to say that he could activate his spell right away and instakill both of them, but he wasn’t able to put those words into his mouth and felt utterly aggrieved.

“I need your help with something!” Xia Yan changed the topic firmly as he would have had to flee if they attacked him once again.

“What is it?” Zhang Shufen queried.

“I’m visiting an elder’s house for the first time tomorrow, so I want to prepare a present. What do you think would be appropriate?” Xia Yan asked.

“Is it a marriage interview?” Zhang Shufen and Le Wenqing asked simultaneously.

“Nope,” Xia Yan shook his head.

“Liar!” Le Wenqing provided a thorough analysis, “If it were for an ordinary elder, it would have been fine to just give them cigarettes, wine, or health care products as a present. You can give them tea if you wish to show some elegance, too. There’s simply no need for you to consult us unless you believe we will be able to suggest something better and this makes the matter very clear. This elder definitely has a daughter or a granddaughter and you want our help in selecting a present for this woman!”

“This analysis makes sense and matches my conjecture as well!” Zhang Shufen added.

“Can you suggest something, then?” Xia Yan learned not to refute girls, so asked for their help again.

“Suggest, my foot!” Zhang Shufen was unable to take it anymore, “Asking a girl for help with shopping is the same as inviting her to window-shop! Just wait here for us to get dressed. We shall go window-shop together!”

“I’ll go put on some make-up!” Le Wenqing also stood up and walked over to the restroom, “Wait for me.”

Thus, Xia Yan could only wait. And so he did, for an hour, right until lunchtime. Le Wenqing was the first to finish getting ready, and Xia Yan’s eyes that were fixed on the TV shone when she appeared in the living room.

Le Wenqing had worn light makeup that beautified her appearance and was dressed in a simple yet elegant frock with a knee-length skirt paired with mid-heels. She had the youthfulness of a student yet also didn’t lack the mature charm of a woman.

“Does it look good?” Le Wenqing twirled around and Xia Yan almost got blinded when her skirt fluttered up.

“It looks good!” Xia Yan answered sincerely.

“It’s fine if you want to look, but don’t even think about courting her. She doesn’t plan to date anyone while she’s in university,” Zhang Shufen interjected as she walked out of her room.

Zhang Shufen had dressed pretty simply in comparison to Le Wenqing. She wore a T-shirt and denim shorts that were paired with sneakers and ankle socks that exposed her delicate and smooth ankles, and that would attract the full attention of foot fetishists. She had showered her hair just now, so her wet hair draped over her shoulders at the moment and even though she hadn’t worn any make-up, she looked equally beautiful. After all, no 18 year old girl looked ugly, and such was the charm of youth.

“Stop staring like an idiot! Let’s set out now!” Le Wenqing waved her hand before Xia Yan’s eyes a few times and woke him up from his daze and then grumbled at him, “You are accompanying two pretty women to window-shop, and you’re dressed this way?”

Actually, Xia Yan had also changed into a new pair of clothes, but all his clothes were relatively simpler. The set of clothes that the Liu family had bought for him were actually pretty high-grade, but it would seem like he was flexing if he were to wear them outside, so he dressed in normal clothes usually; which consisted of a pure cotton T-shirt, shorts and a pair of skate shoes that made it really obvious he was a student.

Xia Yan was quite displeased with Le Wenqing’s words as they were the ones who were accompanying him to buy a present, yet it had now turned into him accompanying them to window-shop. He had an ominous premonition as he had heard a lot of awful things about accompanying women to window-shop.

The trio had a bowl of noodles each at a noodle restaurant in the neighborhood and rushed towards the downtown shopping street. After exiting the subway station, the two girls entered each store they encountered and nitpicked over all kinds of expensive handbags and clothes and even tried out a few of them in the fitting room occasionally. However, both of them were still empty-handed even after two hours had passed and hadn’t bought anything at all.

Even Xia Yan, who had a transcendent constitution, found it a little unbearable. While the two girls were still in high spirits, his legs seemed to have been filled with lead. He simply couldn’t understand the actions of the two girls. [Aren’t you supposed to enter a store to buy things and end the trip with that?]

“Why haven’t you bought anything?” Xia Yan couldn’t bear it anymore in the end and asked his doubts.

“We don’t have the money for it. Why else would we cohabitate with a boy like you? Is it not to share the rent for the apartment?” Zhang Shufen stated as if it was an obvious thing.

“Why did you stroll around for two whole hours then?” Xia Yan asked indignantly.

“Can’t we look at stuff? Also, it’s quite fun to window-shop!” Le Wenqing answered.

“When will we go to buy the present then?” Xia Yan asked.

“Buy what present?” Zhang Shufen and Le Wenqing revealed puzzled looks.

“Didn’t you come out to help me choose a present?” Xia Yan was stupefied by their response. [What did I endure these two hours for then?]
