Chapter 21 – The fall of a Wizard Force. There are no eternal friends or enemies, only interests.

The next day-

Leminaing Clan's Main Household-

It was a massive palace, surrounded by beautiful gardens, having plenty of guards, and protected by top-of-the-line Grade 5 Barriers. By all means, it was a Wizard Fortress, with many hidden and unhidden spells and trump cards prepared to repel any would-be intruder.

Inside the banquet hall-

Over two dozen Wizards gathered, including six 2nd-order Wizards. It was to celebrate the joining of a seemingly insignificant Farmer who helped them in their time of need, an Earth-Blessed Farmer.

If it were a regular Earth-Blessed Farmer, the Academy and the four Clans would only send a representative at most. However, this Earth-Blessed Farmer was one bound to become a Wizard! It made his significance that much greater for them. It was especially true during these trying times when they lacked magical resources.

"So you are Ewan, hah? You are indeed a promising young man!" Idallaes, a blond female Wizard with bright glowing eyes, said. She was the 2nd-order Wizard of the Yumo Clan.

"Too bad you joined the Leminaing Clan, or I would have taken you in myself!" A heroic-looking Wizard with eyes flashing with lightning gave a broad grin. He was Thoxeor, the head of the Renrill Clan.

"Hoho! Thanks to you, the young ones have plenty of ingredients for their rituals." A wizened man stroked his flowing white beard, a turquoise light shining in his eyes. He was Shuzahl, head of the Rava Clan.

"By the way, Ewan, how are things going between you and little Efora?" Urick asked the guest of honor with a sly smile while looking at his bookish descendent, who chatted with several other young Wizards from the other Clans, including Fladrinne.

"You old fox, he already has Valli and Theli." Endezahr irritatedly said. The two new mothers were not Core Members, so they didn't come along. But then, he added with a similar smile while glancing at Fladrinne, "And I suppose everything is going well with my Fladrinne?"

"And you call me an old fox, shameless old coot..." Urick squinted his eyes.

"Hehehe... Everything is well." Ewan warily laughed.

"Please give me a break..." Ewan felt like crying.

While they were chatting, Endezahr turned to look in a direction, looking at two individuals drinking alone. "Qevras, Parbahn! Why are you drinking there all alone? Come join us!"

Qevras, idly looking at his wine glass, turned his icy gaze toward Endezahr's blazing eyes. "Ah. I was just in deep thought."

"I don't feel like it." Pabrahn shook his head, hiding his emotions.

"Oh, come now. Are you still angry about canceling the engagement? My Fladrinne didn't want to marry you, so if you did have a union, it would be unpleasant. It was for the best." Endezahr tried to placate them.

"Hypocrite... You will get your just desserts soon." Parbahn clenched his fist behind his back.

"I suppose you are right," Qevras said, a complicated light in his eyes as he glanced at Ewan. "It is hard to believe this young man made such a difference."

"Yes. I never thought my Clan would be this lucky. With him, our alliance would surely flourish." Endezahr smiled, not noticing the duo's abnormality.

"Yes... Surely." Qevras muttered as he counted the time in his mind.

"They should begin- Now."

BOOM* BOOM* BOOM*

RUMBLE* RUMBLE* RUMBLE*

"WHAT THE?!"

"WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!"

"WHO DARES ATTACK THE LEMINAING CLAN?!"

"THEY WANT TO START A WAR WITH THE GAXARTHS ALLIANCE?!"

The Clan Heads and present Wizards exclaimed in shock and fury. They then took out their communication devices to contact the outside world but realized they got jammed. They also tried their limited spatial magic and discovered it also got restrained.

Endezahr had an ugly expression as he activated the defensive Magic Circles of his Clan before sharing a tacit look with Urick and the other Clan Heads before looking at their respective young heirs.

{Go. Take the core talents of the Clan and the treasures from the Clan's Vault and flee using the escape tunnel, Emergency Teleportation Circle, and the Sky Ship. Bring Ewan and the other youngsters with you. We will buy you as much time as we can.} Endezahr telepathically said and threw over a ring he wore to Fladrinne.

For an enemy to suddenly attack them, they likely had enough force to turn this place into a warzone. He had to ensure the Clan's survival.

Fladrinne's expression changed, a hint of unwillingness in her eyes. But she quickly accepted it and messaged Ewan and the other heirs, {Follow me!}

Ewan didn't hesitate to follow her, while Efora and the others gave unwilling looks toward their respective Clan Heads, including Prabahn.

{Go. Fulfill your task. If you fail this, our backers won't spare even our embers.} Qevras said while throwing over a ring, which Prabahn caught.

{I won't fail.} Prabahn solemnly replied, catching the ring before running with the other heirs.

Qevras then turned his attention to the others and played along, playing his role as the disposable hidden piece that would die after dealing a fatal blow.

Fladrinne quickly gathered ten promising youths before gathering the Clan's hidden vault, fetching their accumulated wealth and knowledge over centuries while the earth quaked, storing them inside the Grade 5 Spatial Storage Ring Endezahr gave her.

Within three minutes, she finished her task and led Ewan and the young scions through an emergency tunnel.

The tunnel was deep underground and long, spanning several miles before reaching a big teleportation circle.

"Everyone, get inside. Once used, it would self-destruct." Fladrinne said as she entered the circle, able to fit up to 20 people.

The others hurried over, and once they were all inside, Fladrinne activated it.

Ewan felt his surroundings strangely shift as he soon found himself in another place. She quickly led them to an exit, pushing a sealed door open.

Inside a forested area, a door appeared on a small hillside, where Fladrinne exited with the others.

"You can all flee from here. May luck be with you." Fladrinne told the other scions and took out a magic ship from her Storage Ring.

"Thank you for the help. Luck be with you." The other scions said and took out magical vessels that expanded once out of the ring, turning into magic ships. They quickly boarded them and set sail at maximum speeds while taking out communication crystals to warn their Clans.

"I will go with you. I don't have a Clan like yours, and I already warned the Academy." Efora said, putting away her communication crystal.

"Okay. Come aboard." Fladrinne nodded.

There is strength in numbers, and if Fladrinne encountered an enemy Wizard, having a trustworthy ally like Efora was a good thing.

Ewan and the others boarded the Magic Ship before setting sail to the family farm to pick up Ewan's family.

However, none of the scions noticed that Prabahn, who boarded his ship and set sail, gave an unwilling look toward Fladrinne's side and decided to follow the plan, following the Renrill Clan's young heir, who had an adjacent territory to the Toronad Clan's territory, unlike the Leminaing Clan's more distant location. He could only report the initial location and their travel direction. The rest was up to the backers.

"Lucky bastards... I hope they catch you and torture you to death!"

In the Leminaing Clan's Headquarters-

A raging battle ensued between 14 2nd-order Wizards. Six belonged to the Academy Forces, while eight belonged to a Warlock Clan with eagle-like features growing on their bodies.

Warlocks infused themselves with the bloodline of monsters, acquiring great physical prowess and inherent racial talents in exchange for limiting their growth to their bloodline limits. However, this was an unorthodox and abhorrent practice since it warped the minds of those who used it, changing their personalities and dispositions into something that resembled the monsters they copied. Many times, they became savage and bloodthirsty.

This Clan of Warlocks fled from the Holy Lands, seeking to replace a local force to occupy their land to call their own. To do that, they targeted the Gaxarths Wizard Academy, planning to annex the area for over a decade.

However, while they were the stronger side, the Leminaing Clan had the defensive advantage. The many traps and spells pre-prepared to counter enemy attacks proved helpful at this moment.

"Give up and surrender! If you do, we can still treat you well." One of the Warlocks said, trying to lower their morale.

"As if we would believe you, filth! You would enslave us, making us your servants, take our wealth and heritage, and treat us as dirt! You might even use us as cannon fodder in another battle! We would rather die than submit!" Urick yelled back.

The other Clan Heads also agreed. It was the brutality of the Wizard World. The winner took everything, and the loser lost everything. Who would believe the words of someone who invaded their land?

"A pity." One of the Warlocks said as he glanced at Qevras.

Qevras understood this signal and gathered his power to launch his most powerful spell. But this time, it wasn't in the Warlock's direction.

Urick suddenly sensed an ominous premonition. He subconsciously activated his defenses as a freezing nova shot at him.

BOOM*

"URICK!"

"QEVRAS! YOU TRAITOR!"

The other Clan Heads immediately understood what happened and shot their spells at the turncoat. Qevras was quickly shredded by a barrage of magic, unable to resist. But he inflicted a fatal blow. Urick fell from the sky, his body an icicle that quickly broke and scattered into frozen dust, leaving only his magical items.

In a single move, it turned from 6vs8 to 4vs8. Even with the defenses, the battle quickly turned into a downhill struggle.

After more exchanges, the barriers broke, with the Toronad Clan's members charging as the vanguard against the Leminaing Clan's Wizards and Grand Knights. It turned into a bloody battle, where the Toronad Clan was used as Cannon Fodder while the Warlock Forces pillaged other places.

An hour later, the battle was over with the death of the four Clan Heads and the destruction of the Leminaing Clan, capturing anyone who didn't resist as slaves.

And yet, despite winning, the 2nd-order Warlocks also suffered heavy casualties, with two dying and one becoming a cripple! It wouldn't have happened if the Toronad Clan convinced even one of the other Clans to join them.

"The Toronad Clan failed us. But at least he sacrificed himself to atone for his sins." One of the Warlocks spat.

"More importantly, what is the situation with raiding the other Clans wealth?" Another Warlock asked.

"That cowardly whelp, Prabahn, succeeded in tracking and intercepting one of the fleeing scions. But the rest managed to flee." A third Warlock said, contempt clear on his face.

"More importantly, how is the tracking of that Farmer? We need him to build up our resources in this magically weak land." A fourth Warlock frowned.

"They escaped! They already activated their invisibility forcefields to avoid detection. We could have captured them all if we had another stupid turncoat." A fifth Warlock angrily said.

"Cough, cough. Forget it. Getting one is already good, given the circumstances. Besides, we can annex the Toronad Clan indirectly and take their resources, covering some of our losses." A heavily injured warlock missing an arm and a leg said.

The six Warlocks agreed before tending to their injuries and leading their Clan Members to ransack the Gaxarths Wizard Alliance. While the value of the other things was insignificant compared to the Clans' accumulated wealth, it was better than nothing. And they could also enslave many Wizard Talents, bolstering their ranks.

And so, another Wizard Force fell, a familiar scene in the brutal Wizard World.

.

.

.

The flying ship flew toward distant lands after quickly picking up Ewan's family and stationed men at the farm. Thankfully, the vessel was large enough to accommodate them all, albeit a bit cramped.

With an invisibility forcefield covering them, they escaped enemy detection and were at sea. Only after several hours of not encountering interception, they relaxed.

"What is the plan now, Fladrinne?" Ewan asked.

He already felt the death of both Urick and Endezahr through the contract. Instead, his allegiance now shifted to Fladrinne and Efora by default.

Efora also looked to Fladrinne. Efora was not as experienced as Fladrinne, over 20 years her senior.

"We have three choices. We can establish ourselves in a Mortal Kingdom, using the resources to set up some things. But we would eventually decline even with Ewan producing some Magic Crops, a bleak last resort. The second option is to attach ourselves to a more prominent force by sacrificing a significant portion of our wealth, granting us protection as subordinates. However, our value would be low, and we would be up to the other's whims. As for the third option-" Fladrinne looked to Ewan. "It is to use Ewan as a bargaining chip. Earth-blessed farmers are money-making treasures in every force, accepted by all. Even if we approached a monstrous force, we only need to sign a draconian contract with them, similar to what you signed with us- Which would be better than the contract we would sign in the second option. Our survival would be guaranteed, at least." Fladrinne listed.

There was also the fourth option of pioneering into new Magic Lands. But that was ruled out by Fladrinne. That wasn't something their weak group could handle.

"So it relies on me in the end..." Ewan warily said.

"Sorry, Ewan. These are the best things I can think of without us dying or worse." Fladrinne returned an equally bitter smile.

"Then which force should we approach?" Erofa asked.

"It is a force Ewan knows." Fladrinne surprisingly said.

"I do?" Ewan was surprised.

"Yes. Did you forget that bitch, Ezith?" Fladrinne mischievously smiled.

"The force behind Ezith?! But she is a barbarian! An enemy of my Kingdom!" Ewan exclaimed.

"Semantics, Ewan. Semantics. That Mortal Kingdom is just a puppet state of the Gaxarths Wizard Academy, and the Barbarians are the puppets of the other force. It is merely a smallish play in power struggles. Now that the Gaxarths alliance collapsed, you might think they would want to kill us and take our treasures, but that isn't how it works in the Wizard World. If one force collapses, another will take its place and pose a threat, so ownerless individuals can join other forces, just like how I recruited you. It is an unspoken rule of the Wizard World that there are no eternal friends or enemies, only interests." Fladrinne gave a calm smile.

"Wouldn't Ezith kill me at the first chance, though? Or my family?" Ewan hesitantly asked.

"Of course not! Believe it or not, that bitch would roll the red carpet and welcome us with open arms! She might even spread her legs for you if you ask nicely enough." Fladrinne said.

"... You're kidding, right?" Ewan gapped.

Fladrinne calmly smiled at him, her silence the answer. When Ewan looked at Efora, she nodded her head.

"I would never get used to this shit..." Ewan mentally cried.
