NOVEL SIMPLE Chapter 5 – The Light Is The Key
About an hour has passed.
Due to the darkness, my heartbeat was the only thing on my mind.
I kept my breathing to a minimum, and lightly crawled away from the monster’s location while on the floor.
In the distance, I could hear the monster thrashing over the racks.
“No… Nononono… NO! Where could he be?! Where are you!?”
For now, I should think about my current situation…
To be honest, there were too many things to consider.
I started clearing my mind.
The only thing I could hear was my heartbeat and the monster’s cries… But I filtered it out from my thoughts.
I had to abandon common-sense, based on the supernatural events that occurred…
Clearly my unusual situation was dictated on uncontrollable variables that I couldn’t understand.
First off, where was this place?
The room was obviously a storage room, but it felt as long as a large mall.
I couldn’t see the walls of the room when I looked around with the phone's flashlight.
Especially since there were too many shelving racks obstructing my vision…
Was there an exit? I don’t know…
But since it’s a storage room, I had to assume that there was one. But it is highly unlikely I’d find it now.
Secondly, how did I get here?
We were initially in a normal storage room…
But as soon as everything went dark, there was momentary silence… Then as soon as I flashed light from my phone, I was suddenly in this unnatural place.
The transition probably occurred during the darkness and silence.
But… That’s strange, how did it happen and why..?
The strange things that happened…
The weird thing with the lights…
Thinking back on what happened, it seems like the monster can manipulate the lights in some way.
When we were still in the normal storage room, it had broken the ceiling lights and somehow instantaneously moved both the body and the table somewhere else.
Did it have the ability to teleport things as well?
But that doesn’t make sense, since it could’ve just teleported to me and killed me right away.
Wait…
There’s a pattern!
Light…
The answer is light!
Back then, every time the lights flickered, and there was total darkness… There was always a transition!
From before, the lights flickered, then the girl’s body disappeared. Then the same happened to the table!
Assuming that’s the case, it’s probably the same with what happened to me earlier!
As soon as my body was submerged in total darkness, I got teleported into this strange place.
The reason I didn’t teleport along with the darkness was because the emergency door’s halogen lights were keeping me in place!
That’s why the monster had destroyed it from the start, instead of directly attacking me.
It wanted to teleport me into this strange room, and trap me here!
But wait… Couldn’t it have manipulated the light from the emergency door?
It couldn’t for some reason, but it decided to physically destroy it anyway…
Could it be..?
This strange place is under rules that can’t be controlled by the monster, except for light.
But it can’t control the light that’s emitted from the emergency exit!
Now... Thirdly, the emergency exit.
If this strange room is reminiscent of the normal storage room…
An exit door probably does exist somewhere in this room.
Though, that’s just speculation… I don’t actually know if an exit exists, I have to see it for myself.
But… Last time, the door wouldn’t budge. Although I pushed hard on the crash bar, it wouldn’t open.
Perhaps the monster had thought of that beforehand, and did something to the door to prevent my escape.
How did it do that?
I don’t know.
Or maybe, there was a condition for me to complete before leaving.
For now… Let’s organize my thoughts…
1 - This is a supernatural place that’s very long, and is filled with shelving racks. Just like a storage room, but with no walls in sight.
2 - The room shifts and moves things around during complete darkness. And the monster can manipulate light.
> Except for the lights on the emergency door, it has to physically destroy it.
3 - This room is very reminiscent of the original storage room; following the same rules. There’s likely an emergency exit somewhere… I hope.
But…
There’s still a mystery…
Why could I still hear the monster nearby?
I haven't changed locations yet… Even though there’s complete darkness!
I’m missing something important, there’s another rule.
Right now… Let’s think of what to do.
But before I could think of something, I caught a glimpse of something with my eye.
Something glowing behind a shelving rack.
How..?
In this darkness?
I squinted my eyes and saw…
