Facing the Abyss as a Demon Cultivator

Chapter 44: Telescopic Tail Stinger

Under Chu Xiu's flawless battle plan, the terrifying creature with a physique score of 25 was slain before it could even pose a threat! This was the terrifying aspect of Demonic Path Professions: their diverse combat techniques allowed them to adapt to various battle situations. This advantage would only become more pronounced as Chu Xiu leveled up and unlocked more inheritances!

The notification that appeared before him caused Chu Xiu's eyes to widen in surprise.

He had gained nearly 600 experience points from a single kill!

'As expected of a 100% experience bonus, this leveling speed is insane!' he thought. Even his Karma Points had skyrocketed by 88! But what surprised Chu Xiu even more was the final notification.

Another piece of equipment!

With a wave of his hand, Chu Xiu dispersed his three Yin Ghosts, sending them to hunt down the approaching ghouls. He then carefully examined the attributes of the newly acquired equipment.

[Telescopic Tail Stinger]

[Rank: F]

[Quality: Excellent]

[Attributes: Sturdiness (3.2), Sharpness (3.8), Power (10.4), Telescopic (1m-8m), Weight 5.8kg]

[Evaluation: A telescopic tail stinger that can be used for surprise attacks.

[But it will take some time to get used to, otherwise you'll look as ridiculous as a monkey that's had its tail cut off.]

The attributes of this equipment were quite good. Without hesitation, Chu Xiu equipped it.

Instantly, a bony tail, formed from countless interlocking exoskeletal plates, connected to his coccyx.

The feeling was peculiar, as if the tail was glued to him with superglue. Yet, he had established a strange connection with it. With a mere thought, Chu Xiu could control the tail to swing or attack.

As he experimented, he found it difficult to maintain his balance at first. After all, the stinger had a maximum striking power of 10.4!

Chu Xiu estimated that this 10.4 represented the average strength of a person with a physique score of 10.4. As an additional piece of equipment, this value was astonishing.

Not to mention, both its sturdiness and sharpness were comparable to his +7 Bone Spear without enchantments.

"This is a good thing!"

Chu Xiu exclaimed as he manipulated the tail stinger to attack.

With this equipment, killing ghouls became even easier. He could maintain a distance of more than five meters and pick them off one by one.

His control over the tail stinger also improved rapidly. After killing another dozen ghouls, he had basically mastered it.

By now, no more ghouls were charging up from below. All that remained were corpses, their viscous blood pooling and flowing down the stairs.

"This wave... I must have killed at least forty ghouls!"

This many ghouls had provided Chu Xiu with over 600 experience points, 118 Karma Points, and three pieces of [Common] quality equipment.

Although he had no use for them, he could sell them for money when he returned.

"It's a pity that some of these ghouls killed each other at the beginning of the blood moon, otherwise there would have been even more!"

Chu Xiu felt a tinge of regret but quickly dismissed it. He had more pressing matters to attend to.

Looking up, he could clearly sense several red dots gathered above him!

There were four fire escapes leading up from the apartment building. Chu Xiu had only blocked one of them. Although he had attracted many ghouls from the nearby corridors, at least half of them had slipped through and were heading straight for the stronghold upstairs.

Most importantly, Chu Xiu could sense an exceptionally bright red dot among them, most likely a high-level ghoul!

He would never let such an experience piñata escape.

Without hesitation, he recalled his Yin Ghosts. With a flicker, he dashed upstairs!

The distance of two floors was covered in a few breaths. As soon as he reached the 32nd floor, Chu Xiu heard an angry roar! Immediately afterward, a meter-wide azure sword Qi shot out from the stronghold, slicing two ghouls blocking the entrance in half!

"Oh?"

Chu Xiu raised an eyebrow. Was this Shen Zhuo's skill?

He didn't stop. With a leap, he arrived at the entrance. A quick glance was all it took for him to grasp the situation inside.

The floor was littered with ghoul corpses, black, oil-like blood everywhere. The balcony and windows had been smashed, and ghouls were continuously crawling in!

Shen Zhuo and the other four combat professionals were guarding a metal door, a two-meter-long corridor in front of them. The support professionals were huddled behind them.

Through their experiences, Shen Zhuo's team had developed excellent synergy in their fighting style. Shen Zhuo was at the forefront, flanked by two melee professionals, with two ranged professionals behind them.

They cooperated seamlessly, reaping the lives of the attacking ghouls.

However, under the blood moon's enhancement, the ghouls' vitality had been amplified to an absurd degree. Even with an arm severed or ribs shattered, they continued to roar and crawl, relentlessly attacking!

Among the five, only Shen Zhuo possessed attack power close to Chu Xiu's, capable of killing with a single blow. The others' attack efficiency paled in comparison.

Moreover, the absence of Wang Long and Li Shan had significantly impacted their overall combat strength.

At this point, the three at the front were all injured. The Dart Master had a deep gash on his stomach, his clothes soaked in blood. He could barely stand, leaning weakly against the wall.

Even Shen Zhuo, equipped with his [Rare] gear, seemed to be reaching his limit. His once-exquisite leather armor was now covered in claw marks, many of the enchanted runes damaged. He was gasping for breath, clearly exhausted both physically and in terms of energy level.

Just then, Chu Xiu appeared in his line of sight.

His heavy, fortress-like armor was stained with the viscous blood of ghouls. Under the menacing bull-horned helmet were a pair of cold, black eyes.

Overjoyed, Shen Zhuo shouted, "Chu Xiu! Help us! The number of ghouls is dwindling. We can hold on!"

The others also looked at Chu Xiu as if he were their savior. Yun Lu, the last remaining support, cried out in excitement, her eyes shining as she looked at him.

However, under their expectant gazes, Chu Xiu merely stood there and muttered to himself, "The numbers don't add up."

The blood moon's sensory ability required concentration to discern the exact location of other creatures, and the higher one's spirit, the more precise the perception.

It was like a nearsighted person who usually saw everything blurry but could barely make out shapes by squinting.

Engaged in intense combat, Shen Zhuo and the others' spirit was far inferior to Chu Xiu's. Thus, they were unaware of the exact number of ghouls or how many Chu Xiu had killed. They only vaguely sensed that the number of ghouls coming from below was decreasing.

But Chu Xiu was different.

With his three Yin Ghosts, except for the slight mental strain from battling the elite ghoul, he had been relatively relaxed.

Therefore, he could roughly estimate how many ghouls had climbed up.

"At least forty."

But the corpses before him only accounted for half, at best.

Most importantly, the elite ghoul was nowhere to be seen.

Suddenly, Chu Xiu's gaze fell on the spot behind everyone.

Guan Ke was missing.

"I see."

He smiled.

Then, to the astonishment of the others, Chu Xiu turned and left without a moment's hesitation!

"Chu Xiu!!! You!" Shen Zhuo roared in anger.

He knew Chu Xiu's selfish nature, but he never imagined that the latter would be so cold-blooded as to watch them struggle on the verge of death without lifting a finger!

A terrifying thought even crossed his mind: Could Chu Xiu be intentionally letting him die so he could take his equipment?

The thought sent chills down Shen Zhuo's spine. Just as he was about to say something, another ghoul crawled through the window and lunged at him!

The others had no time to berate Chu Xiu. They retracted their furious gazes and threw themselves back into battle.

Yun Lu, on the other hand, seemed to have suffered a major blow. She stared blankly at Chu Xiu's retreating figure, her face filled with disappointment and bewilderment.
