Chapter 152: The Real Yan Wuji

The picture scroll gradually transformed into a red and gold mote of light, which melded into He Junyu’s body. At that moment, a massive teleportation power appeared, wrapping up everyone present. After a few breaths of time, the only person remaining in the great hall was He Junyu.

The several thousand people cultivating on the stairs back on the first level of the Great Harmony Water Palace were also wrapped up in the powerful teleportation power. A few moments later, there wasn’t a single person left on the 500 step staircase.

“Who obtained the inheritance?”

Everyone was gathered outside of the great hall, by the riverbank of the Zhaojiang. There were many people who hadn’t been able to make it to the second level, so they looked all around, trying to figure out who earned the favor of Vast Ocean Primordial Lord and was able to obtain the inheritance of this half-step Clone Avatar stage powerhouse.

“A bunch of morons,” Zhao Changhe sneered coldly. He gathered the disciples of the Peak Destroying Sword Sect and took advantage of the time when the crowd was still in chaos to leave. He cupped his hands to Yan Wuji from afar, not even caring if he saw it or not, and flew off into the distance on a sword light.

Hong Zhao casually shot Zhao Changhe and the others a glance out of the corner of his eye. He knew that they were disciples from the Peak Destroying Sword Sect, so he didn’t pay them any extra attention. He retracted his gaze and looked thoughtfully over at the several thousand people gathered by the great hall.

Among the crowd, there were some rogue cultivators who had very keen senses. They could perceive that there was something wrong with the atmosphere here, so they stealthily slipped away in beams of light.

“Wuji,” Hong Zhao called out, rising into the air on his demonic cloud with a flick of his serpent tail.

“Mhm,” Yan Wuji grunted in response, a glacial look appearing in his eyes as five small banners appeared around him. Demonic energy rose and the five small banners filled with wind. Each of them flew towards a position surrounding the few thousand people, forming a large demon array. Clouds of demonic energy tumbled and roiled as the illusionary figures of monsters appeared within. Of those, several dozen of them had undergone full transformations.

The people didn’t even have enough time to react. By the time they realized what was happening, they were already trapped in the massive demon array. Their expressions became colored with shock and terror.

Some people tried to bombard the deep blue barrier of light surrounding the demon array, but it didn’t budge at all. Instead, it attracted the attention of the half-transformed monsters in the clouds of demonic energy. They turned in their direction and let out fierce roars as they approached.

“When the remnant of that old man Vast Ocean appeared, there were some people among you who dared to slander the Ancient Nuwa Sect. We were too lazy to check which of you exactly it was, so you’ll all have to pay for it,” Yan Wuji said, his expression cold as he activated the five array flags. In the next moment, it was as if the countless monsters within received an order. They let out crazy roars and charged towards the separated rogue cultivators, commencing the slaughter.

There were disciples from the other four large sects caught up in the array too. Their expressions turned unsightly. Zhang Lingruo, from the Demon Sound Sect, made a snap decision, immediately turning to Yan Wuji and Hong Zhao, who were floating in the air outside the array. “Senior Martial Brother Yan, I, Zhang Lingruo of the Demon Sound Sect, have never made any rash comments about the Ancient Nuwa Sect. The Demon Sound Sect is a subordinate demon race sect of the Ancient Nuwa Sect, so I would like to beg you to please show mercy and let us out.”

After a moment of pondering, Yan Wuji nodded. He paused the array and made a hole for them at the top of the large array.

Zhang Lingruo’s face brightened. She flew towards the hole, bringing the disciples of the Demon Sound Sect with her.

There were several people close to that hole. One of them was a Dao Foundation stage rogue cultivator called Yan Tao. He had short stature and an ugly face.

When he saw that a hole in the array suddenly appeared, his eyes lit up. He rode on his fan Magic Treasure and flew out of the hole, exiting the demon array. He looked at the hovering Yan Wuji and his cold expression. But he didn’t seem to care about him, so Yan Tao clenched his teeth and desperately fled in a beam of light, disappearing over the horizon in the blink of an eye.

The few Sea of Qi stage rogue cultivators near him also tried to do the same, but they were torn to pieces by the rushing onslaught of some half-transformed monsters.

Zhang Lingruo wielded her lotus flower Magic Treasure and surrounded the several disciples of the Demon Sound Sect with a barrier of light, blocking the crazed onslaught of the monsters with transformed heads. Then, they all flew out of the hole in the demon array the instant before it closed.

“The Ancient Nuwa Sect is too malicious!”

“Just look at how many innocent people are in here!”

“Ai, this disaster was so uncalled for!”

The rogue cultivators began to insult and swear uncontrollably. Their expressions were filled with despair as they bitterly tried to block the frenzied assault of the monsters.

The disciples from the large sect, Daji Shrine, also began to speak and plead their case, hoping to be let out just like the disciples of the Demon Sound Sect were. But Yan Wuji didn’t show any sign of responding to their cries.

“The Demon Sound Sect can be considered a subordinate sect of the Ancient Nuwa Sect, but the other large sects are under the Shangqing Sacred Sect. It’s only a few dozen disciples. If they die then they die,” Yan Wuji said offhandedly, pouring even more demonic energy into the five small banners making up the array. He no longer paid any more attention to the roars, begs, and insults coming from within.

“Senior Martial Brother Jian, Junior Martial Brother Xu, the Ancient Nuwa Sect wants to use this demon array to kill us too!” Li Cangyun said anxiously. He had the barriers from two Magic Treasures surrounding him, firmly protecting him. In the midst of the chaos, he managed to find Xu Disheng and Jian Liangbi.

Jian Liangbi’s expression was also very grave as he spoke. “I’ve heard about Yan Wuji’s reputation. In the Ancient Nuwa Sect, he’s considered a genius among the Dao Foundation stage disciples. His demon race bloodline is extremely dense, and he’s extremely cold-blooded and ruthless. Simply because a few people insulted the demon race of the Ancient Nuwa Sect when the remnant spirit of Vast Ocean Primordial Lord appeared, he now wants to bury all of the people here alive without any regard for sentiment or face. You can see just how ruthless his temperament is from this.”

“Where’s Martial Uncle Jing?” Li Cangyun asked, his expression visibly filling with despair as he barely managed to block the attack of a fully transformed monster. “Don’t tell me he doesn’t care about this?”

Xu Disheng glanced at the countless monsters roaring around him and said, “I don’t know. But even if we all die here, the sect probably won’t take initiative to get revenge for us. They might say that our demise was simply because our skills were lacking.”

The several disciples from the Ancient Nuwa Sect had already flown away on their demonic clouds right before the array formed, and were standing behind Yan Wuji and Hong Zhao.

A male disciple with a green serpent tail looked hesitant, and he eventually decided to come forward and speak up. “Senior Martial Brother Yan, there are still quite a few disciples from the Shangqing Sacred Sect inside. Some of them are even people that Sacred Son Bai Lu brought here…”

“Hah?” Yan Wuji growled, turning slightly. The frigid coldness deep in his gaze was on full display.

That disciple didn’t dare to meet his gaze and quietly lowered his head.

“Bai Lu already returned to the Shangqing Sacred Sect. Who cares about the disciples he brought? If they die here then they die here,” Yan Wuji said, unexpectedly going out of his way to speak coldly to that disciple. “In the Shan Mountain Territory, and even in the entire Eastern Territory, these are how the rules have always been. You’ve already cultivated to the Dao Foundation stage and you still don’t get it?”

“I understand, Senior Martial Brother Yan,” the disciple with the green serpent tail said deferentially. After that, he didn’t say anything more.

While this was happening, Hong Zhao ascended high into the sky and watched as a purple celestial map approached from the distance.

After a short while, Jing Xingchen stopped the celestial map in front of Hong Zhao. He looked down at the massive demon array and the corpses strewn about within. “Hong Zhao, what is the meaning of this?” he asked, brows furrowing deeply.

“There were people among them that slandered my Ancient Nuwa Sect. Isn’t death the proper punishment for this crime?” Hong Zhao said, raising a brow.

Jing Xingchen snorted coldly, and a sword clad in dazzling starlight appeared in his hand. Then, without a word, he began to swing his sword, unleashing resplendent sword lights at the massive demon array.

“If someone slandered the Shangqing Sacred Sect, what would you do?” Hong Zhao said casually, not moving to block him.

The Broken Star Sword paused and Jing Xingchen replied, “Of course, kill them all. But there are several disciples that I brought to this place, and I can’t have them die here.”

The swift and ruthlessly fierce sword lights grew even brighter as they flew, blossoming with lustrous purple starlight. When they smashed upon the sturdy demon array, they managed to blow open a hole.

“Disciples of the Shangqing Sacred Sect, come out through here.”

Through the hole that was blasted open, a thick, sickening scent of blood wafted out, causing Jing Xingchen to furrow his brows as he surveyed the ground littered with corpses.
