Forbidden Zone of the Human Race

Chapter 145: Slice of Life

Looking at the crowd, Xiang Ning was slightly afraid. He would have no issues if everyone was looking at him with bloodlust; he could just do the same. But now everyone was looking at him as if he was their savior. Goosebumps rose on his arms. He finally let go of Fang Rou's hands and held the cake box as he walked toward the main gate.

The moment the gate opened, he extended his hand and shouted for everyone to stop. “Wait!” His words were like thunder and all of the students stopped their charge, some of them even almost tripping and falling. They were all waiting to see what Xiang Ning would do.

Xiang Ning turned to Fang Rou and gave her the cake. “Whether or not I’ll be forgiven by my sister, it’s up to you now. I trust you.”

Fang Rou was confused. Wasn’t the cake supposed to be given to Xiang Xiaoyu? A few moments later, she finally realized why he gave her the cake.

“Hey! Are you a pervert! Stop touching me! Girl! Please control yourself! Wait, don’t pull my shirt! Hey! Stop touching my butt!”

Looking at everyone crowding around Xiang Ning and trying to lift him into the air, Fang Rou pitied him.

......

Twenty minutes later, Xiang Ning had finally escaped from the students and was sitting on the roof of the teaching building. Down below, many others were trying to find him.

That was unavoidable, as Xiang Ning had accomplished the impossible and become the strongest student in Marsh City. Everyone even speculated that he would become a tier nine martial artist in the future.

“I’m… I’m going to die.” Xiang Ning had gone through so many battles, but this was the first time he felt this tired. He could barely accept people touching him, but touching him in inappropriate places was too much.

Fang Rou stifled a laugh when she saw him in such a state. It was a stark difference compared to when he was fighting. But it wasn’t like she hadn’t seen this side of him before. He was so confident and unruly against those that condemned him, but he displayed such a cute side of himself against an angry Xiang Xiaoyu, just like a little puppy. As she had said, “My brother is so annoying, but I still love him.”

He was always following the others, but there were times when he was selfish.

Fang Rou shook herself from her delusion as Fatty Wang, Li Zimo, Liu Ruoxue, Lu Shiyu, and Xiang Xiaoyu walked out from the stairways.

Without waiting for them to say anything, Xiang Ning held the cake box and walked to his sister. “I went out and got you your favorite cakes.” He placed the box into her hands and put on an expression as if he was saying ‘please forgive me.’

She wasn’t even planning to scold him in the first place; instead, she had wanted to ask him if everything was alright. She saw how he had collapsed in the last fight and was extremely worried. But when she saw the cake, she almost cried. Why doesn’t he think for himself? He was already so tired from the fight, but he still bought a cake to appease me.

Looking at the scene, everyone else was also silent. They knew what it meant for Xiang Ning to go to Hanwu Academy, but at least it had perfectly ended.

......

Time flew and three days had passed.

In those three days, Xiang Ning had obtained his rewards. They all got to choose a breathing technique and their funds had been increased to eighty million dollars, plus the seven million dollars from hunting the beasts. On average, everyone obtained seventeen million dollars.

If that was obtained by a normal civilian, they could just live the rest of their life in peace. But for a martial artist, it was nothing but spare change and could barely buy some good equipment and martial techniques.

It was the Mid-Autumn Festival. It had been continuously celebrated, even though humanity had gone through so many crises. They were on break, so everyone on Xiang Ning’s team went back home to celebrate it. Naturally, Xiang Ning was with his sister.

After they had breakfast, the siblings headed out.

Because it was a festival, the streets were crowded. Many roadside stalls had opened and were selling items related to the festival. But neither of them were even looking at them. On an average day, they would have looked at the stalls and bought something, but today they only had one goal: they were headed to the largest commercial district of Marsh City. It was filled with many items related to cultivation. Machinery, weapons, potions, equipment... but even more importantly, they had spiritual armor.

Today, they were going to buy Xiang Xiaoyu spiritual armor.

“Big brother, this place is huge.” She held his hand as she curiously looked at the place. She had lived in Marsh City for so many years, but she’d only seen this place from afar. It was filled with so much equipment and so many scientific inventions.

The commercial district was a single, large metal structure. Like a fortress, it was separated into different zones by walls.

“Hmm, let’s start from the first floor. Since we’re here, let’s spend some money.” Xiang Ning was excited. If it were him before, he would never have had the chance to say that. But now that he was rich, how could he let his precious little sister not have equipment on par with her peers? She was his princess! He must let her be better than the rest!

“But I don’t like jewelry.” She felt happy, but she still had to tell him that. She secretly loved it, but she didn’t want to wear something that would make others think that she was different from them.

Xiang Ning nodded. He had always been frugal, and wouldn’t purchase items without a function. But he still bought some clothes for her. They could live without jewelry, but they did need some better-looking clothes for special occasions.

Holding hands, they walked into a clothing store and found the spiritual armor section.

“Big brother, the salesperson is too passionate.”

“Of course it’s because you’re too cute.” Xiang Ning watched as the salesperson almost let her try every single piece of clothing in their shop because of her cuteness.
