Chapter 82: Kill!

Wu Zhishen suddenly realized how unreasonable he was being. How could he let this kid affect his mood so drastically? No, it shouldn’t be! He shouldn’t be holding grudges against a kid—he was the headmaster of Hanwu Academy! “Cough cough, I think this kid’s talented in combat, and very knowledgeable about it too. If he were in Hanwu, we’d see a tier seven master soon, no doubt!” he flatly said.

Several headmasters looked at him in disgust. The man was digging his own grave.

“Hahaha, Old Wu, I haven’t seen you in a while and you’ve grown such thick skin already,” laughed Qi Jiuming.

Wu Zhishen shrugged. It was true, too. Xiang Ning must be very confident in himself, as well as knowledgeable in combat, to be able to play the mosquitos like that and kill beasts so effortlessly. Hanwu Academy had raised many masters and received more funding than the rest. He believed Xiang Ning could be tempted to transfer to his school.

Qi Jiuming grew worried when Wu Zhishen didn’t speak. He knew the man well—if he wasn’t speaking, there must be a hidden trap. That scheming man must be planning to steal his student. No, he must guard his students well!

Lei Zhongyuan ignored their drama. Xiang Ning wouldn’t go anywhere. He was a mesmerizing character filled with surprises! The talent he displayed was not to be underestimated.

......

What none of them knew was that Xiang Ning had consumed more than ten pills by that point, and only had one full-recovery pill left. At least he had already killed most of the mosquitos, and the rest had scattered when their comrades fell. They had instinctively run away. Since they were lower-tier beasts, they weren’t very intelligent and only knew how to attack a single target. In the face of an unknown terror, they escaped on instinct.

Xiang Ning wiped the sweat from his brow and took a look at the ranking. Their team had risen from seventeenth to tenth place.

He looked at the top-ranked teams, wondering how they scored so high.

First place: 6,370,000

Second place: 6,030,000

Third place: 5,800,000

Ninth place: 3,230,000

Tenth place: 3,210,000

He looked at his own team’s value score. There was a twenty thousand gap between their team and the ninth place. It was disappointing. He had killed more than a hundred Bushy-Tailed Mosquitos, but only earned about six hundred thousand dollars. It hadn’t been worth it at all.

In reality, compared to the Boulder Boar, the mosquitos were worth more because they were flying insects. Their wings were valuable due to their lightweight, yet sturdy build. So why had they only earned six hundred thousand dollars after killing a hundred mosquitos? Well, they were only tier one beasts, after all.

Very soon, Xiang Ning came to the tree hole and peeled the wood away. All he saw was a blade point at him, which he didn’t dodge. He merely smiled bitterly at the person inside. The face that glared at him was covered in mud, but no mud could hide her beauty.

“You… you’re awake?” Xiang Ning scratched his head in embarrassment, ignoring the blade at his throat. Before he got an answer, he reached out to grab Fang Rou’s other hand and almost forcefully led her out.

Fang Rou pouted. He should save her some face after all! She was mad at him! However, she still put down her sword and let him pull her out.

“Well, I saw you were tired so I didn’t want to disturb you. I swear I wasn’t out for more than ten minutes! Do you believe me?” Xiang Ning held her hand, graciously leading her.

“Hmph, as if! Stop sneaking around!” Fang Rou would never believe him. She usually did, but after having known him for some time, she realized that not everything he said could be trusted.

Feeling wronged, Xiang Ning shut his mouth. Then again, he was also in the wrong. “Let’s go. It’s nightfall and the mosquitos aren’t that dangerous.” He held her hand as they walked.

Fang Rou dug her feet into the ground. He turned in confusion and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Xiang Ning, can we have some trust between us?” Fang Rou glared at him.

“Uh?” Xiang Ning thought his execution had been flawless. There were no mosquito carcasses around, either.

“Hmmph, I can smell the blood in the air!” Fang Rou wrinkled her nose. When they ran, she killed two mosquitos, and she remembered the strange smell of their blood.

Xiang Ning paused. “This is the wilderness, isn’t the smell of blood normal? I saw two beasts fighting just now. That’s probably what you smelled.” He was planning on sticking to his lies until he saw Fang Rou’s disgusted face and swallowed his words. He stuttered, “Fine, I killed the mosquitos. Just check the leaderboard and you’ll know. I’m not lying.”

Fang Rou’s eyes widened, then pulled up the leaderboard. Their team was in tenth place now, having suddenly gained six hundred thousand dollars!

“I’m sorry, I didn’t want you to worry, and there were so many—” Before he finished, Fang Rou cut him off.

“Hmph, I forgive you!” Fang Rou pursed her lips, then dragged the grinning Xiang Ning by the hand.

She sighed in resignation. She wasn’t unreasonable, either, knowing the dangers he had exposed himself to. To be honest, she was moved; however, it was still uncomfortable for her to be left in a tree hole to sleep while he fought the mosquitos.

She suddenly stopped and turned to look at him. “Next time, I want to fight alongside you!”

“Alright, I’ll protect you.” Xiang Ning nodded. He was feeling guilty too because he left to earn Fury Points. Fang Rou wouldn’t have agreed to provoke the mosquitos, and he wouldn’t have done so for no reason anyway. Operating alone was fine, but if he brought Fang Rou along… if anything happened to her, he would be killed by her brother and father!

“Ahhh!” a piercing scream broke the silence, scaring Fang Rou into hiding behind his back. His hair even stood on end.

Both of them looked at each other, then ran toward the sound.
