From Corsica to the Fourth Rome

Chapter 23 Accident

One-eyed jailbreak? !

Lawrence's frown deepened. This was beyond his expectation. The patrol's dungeon was not impregnable, but it would not allow an injured and unarmed person to escape.

Lawrence had been to the patrol's dungeon several times. It was originally where the Genoese held prisoners, and each cell was extremely strong. The iron gate is half a foot thick, and not even a cat can get through the gaps between the iron bars.

"What's the specific situation?" Lawrence didn't panic. No matter what had happened, he had to keep a cool head and face it.

"I'm not so sure either."

Old Sean lowered his head in shame. When Lawrence left, he handed him over to take charge of all the team's affairs. He didn't expect that such a big mistake would happen under his own hands.

"I only know that One Eye somehow broke out of the cell, killed a guard on duty in the dungeon with his bare hands, grabbed the key to the cell, and let the other prisoners out together, and then they rushed out of the station together."

Old Sean whispered, glancing at Lawrence's face uneasily. Even when he was pushed to the ground by the two guards, he was not so nervous.

Although Lawrence and the soldiers in the patrol team were brothers, Old Sean did not forget that when Lawrence came to the patrol team on the first day, he mercilessly drew a knife and pointed it at his group.

No one knows how Lawrence will deal with old Sean after such a serious accident.

"Other prisoners? All were released?" Lawrence asked. Even he couldn't accept the consequences of dozens of prisoners in the dungeon escaping together.

"No, no, One Eye is probably afraid of our revenge, so he only let his men go, less than ten of them."

Old Sean quickly waved his hand and explained that if that were the case, he would not dare to come to see Lawrence tonight and would have packed up his money and bought a boat ticket and fled abroad.

Is One-Eye afraid of retaliation from the patrol? Lawrence shook his head slightly, mentally rejecting Old Sean's words.

A man with a cruel nature like One Eye, who licks blood at the tip of a knife, would probably have hated Lawrence deeply. If he planned the escape alone, he would definitely release all the prisoners as revenge for himself.

In Lawrence's view, both the timing and the target of this prison break were too coincidental, and it was definitely not something that a simple-minded reckless man like One Eye could accomplish by himself.

Ciro Russell.

This name suddenly appeared in Lawrence's mind. From a motive and logic point of view, Lawrence did not believe that this prison escape was not the work of this bastard hiding in the dark.

Rushing back to the station quickly with Old Sean, Lawrence first went to the dungeon to check for traces of the scene.

Behind him were Old Sean and a trembling patrolman. He was supposed to be on duty in the dungeon with the guard who was killed by One-Eye, but he left his post without permission and went to the tavern to hang out. Now he was completely drunk and was panicking. Waiting for Lawrence's decision.

Everything in the cell where One Eye lives is normal. The lock on the iron door has not been damaged, and there are no signs of violent impact on the iron fence. Patrol soldiers deliver food to prisoners through a small trap door next to the iron door, and will not enter the cell rashly.

"That is to say, One Eye opened the door from the inside and then killed the guard on duty." Lawrence silently analyzed, judging from the traces at the scene, there should be no mistakes.

With One Eye's physical fitness and combat experience, even if he is injured, it is easy to kill an unsuspecting patrol.

Just, where did One-Eye get the cell key.

Lawrence touched his chin, suddenly turned his head, and asked the patrolman who had neglected his duty:

"May I have your name?"

"Sir, my name is Ya'an." Ya'an replied with a trembling voice. This young man who looked to be only in his twenties had his back completely wet with cold sweat.

"How are the keys to each cell kept?" Lawrence continued to ask. Although there was no emotion in his tone, there was a faint sense of calmness and self-power.

Ya'an was trembling and couldn't say a complete sentence for a long time.

Seeing this, Old Sean jumped in and said: "Each cell has a different key. There are two keychains, one for each of the two guards on duty."

Lawrence nodded, looked at Ya'an, and asked, "Is your string still there?"

"Yes, yes! Of course it is, I won't lose this too." Ya'an said quickly, taking out a large bunch of rattling keys from his waist and handing them to Lawrence.

Lawrence did not reach out to take it, but continued to ask: "How many handfuls are there?"

Ya'an was stunned for a moment and said: "There are one hundred cells here, and of course there are one hundred keys."

Lawrence closed his eyes, sighed, and asked impatiently:

"Let me ask you how many are there."

Seeing Ya'an still stunned, Old Sean quickly slapped Ya'an on the back of the head and cursed:

"Pig! You can't count how many there are!"

Only then did Ya'an react. He quickly watched Lawrence apologize, raised the keychain in his hand to his chest, and counted them one by one:

"Ah, yes, yes, I'll count right now, one, two, three."

"Ninety-six, ninety-seven, ninety-eight, ninety-nine!" Ya'an looked in disbelief. This key chain had always been hanging on his waist, how could it be missing one out of thin air.

And judging from the current situation, the one thing missing is the one-eyed cell.

"Sure enough." Lawrence slowly opened his eyes, knowing that things were not that simple, and continued to ask:

"Why did you go to the pub to drink? Who invited you there? Who did you go to drink with?"

After hearing this, Ya'an's eyes wandered for a moment, and he hesitated, as if he was a little embarrassed to speak. After struggling for a while, he said:

"A girl, I love her very much, but we have always been tepid before, and today she suddenly invited me to drink."

When Old Sean heard this, he became very angry. He slapped Ya'an on the back of the head again and cursed:

"You're a beast who can't control your private parts. A woman can steal your soul away with just a few words! What a disaster you've caused!"

Lawrence smiled slightly, waved his hand to stop Old Sean, and joked:

"Okay, old Sean, if you were forty years younger, you probably wouldn't be much better."

Old Sean scratched his head sheepishly and smiled, and the tense atmosphere in the dungeon finally relaxed a little.

Ya'an raised his head gratefully and glanced at Lawrence secretly, thinking that this kind-hearted adult was not going to pursue his fault. However, Lawrence's next words made Ya'an feel as if he had fallen into an ice cave:

"Old Sean, bring someone with you immediately to bring the girl over. Ya'an, you lead the way."

"Wait, Monsieur Bonaparte! She is a good girl, she couldn't have stolen it!"

Ya'an waved his hands excitedly, trying his best to persuade Lawrence, but Lawrence just waved his hand calmly and signaled Old Sean to leave immediately and said:

"It's up to me to decide whether it's good or not."

Old Sean dragged Ya'an who was stunned and said angrily:

"Boy, your fault caused the death of a patrol brother. Based on this alone, Monsieur Bonaparte can shoot you right now! But you still want to save face in front of women?"

Seeing Ya'an being almost dragged out of the dungeon by Old Sean who was still in despair, Lawrence couldn't help but sigh.

"If your guess is correct, this kid is going to take a hard blow."

Lawrence thought so.
