Chapter 105.1 The Dance (Part 2)

On Thursday of the same week, Lavender and Parvati had hatched a creepy-crawly and truly feminine plan. When the group of young people gathered again in Sora's apartment in the evening, the girls began very carefully and subtly to bring the individual conversations to a single topic — the new lessons — and when that was accomplished, they moved on to dancing.

The first dance lesson was promised for next Tuesday, when Potions, History and Divination were on the schedule, so there were no "hard" lessons. But the girls are suddenly worried about their future appearance at the first dance lesson, for neither Lavender nor the Patil sisters, nor any of the other girls except Astoria, have learned to dance.

Parvati and Padma were careful not to specify what kind of dances they had not been taught, for their mother had taught them not only traditional folk dances from childhood, but also special gymnastics, and had taught her daughters an ancient and very important treatise on family life, known to Muggles as the "Kama Sutra". Word for word, and it turned out that only Sora and Astoria could really dance in this group, the rest were more or less only able to waltz to "one-two-three".

From the look in his eyes, the cunning girls realized that Sora had figured out their plan, but it was too late and there was nothing he could do. And then Sora Hoshino suddenly changed. The guy had never been slouching before, but now he was somehow bigger: taller, broader in the shoulders, and something about him that immediately made it clear who was the oldest and strongest here. All the girls got goosebumps from this wave.

The guy got up from the chair, changed the music in the "box", approached Astoria sitting on the couch, also suddenly more imposing, but with a correction to femininity, and watched him. A perfectly calibrated bow, one hand behind his back, the other extended to the girl.

— Lady, please do me the honor of dancing with me.

Astoria waited for a short pause, as was customary, and then slipped her slender palm into the snow-white glove. As soon as it happened, Parvati realized that she had made a mistake, the extent of which was yet to be determined. No, this dance was nothing like the slow fermentation of couples shown in the film. Here and now the teenagers saw something much more beautiful, something they couldn't find words to describe.

Despite the considerable difference in height, the couple looked dazzling. It was as if they complemented each other and became one in motion. Hot girlish jealousy accompanied every little closer touch or movement, and when Astoria leaned back and Sora held her firmly but carefully, then brought her back to let her go into a new movement, Parvati could hardly contain herself. But very quickly she began to calm down, for the plan had not yet failed, and she could and must (!) find herself in Greengrass' place.

When the dance was over, even Ron clapped at the frozen figures, who could feel the beauty of what he had seen. A grateful kiss on the slender fingers brought a blush not only to Astoria, but also to the other girls.

Such a vivid demonstration left no one indifferent, but Sora refused to continue dancing or to start classes in his living room and forbade it categorically. However, he offered to do it the next day, before the scheduled showing of the new part of the movie. By the time a flustered Hermione dragged the boys to the address, the rest of the group had arrived, but the new faces confused the Gryffindors.

Ron Weasley was particularly outraged when he saw that there were seven Slytherin students present instead of just one. Draco Malfoy, longtime ideological adversary and embodiment of global evil, tried to keep a straight face.

Hoshino's request to be more restrained, to be 'superior', was heeded, but the blonde only looked away reluctantly, and his squires didn't really seem to understand the situation. Milicenta Bulstrode, on the other hand, stood a little apart, as did Astoria and Daphne Greengrass, as well as Tracy Davies.
