I Have Become A Demon God. Did You Just Ask Me To Be A Minor Villain?

Chapter 22: Operation Sap! The protagonist lies down and becomes stronger!

“I heard that this guy is the bastard son of an Earl. Are we really going to confront him?”

“He’s just an illegitimate child. What’s the worst that could happen? If he’s not the person our superiors are after, we can discreetly send him on his way.”

“Our superiors want us to take more decisive action, so let’s confront him directly.”

“Let’s wait until he places his order and then take action.”

“….”

Late at night, three individuals sat together at a table in a tavern, gliding at a person in the distance and whispering amongst themselves. These three individuals were also members of Su Mo’s intelligence organisation. The person they were observing happened to be the illegitimate son of a viscount, whose recent behaviour had become a cause for concern.

It was a well-known fact that the status of illegitimate children was considered extremely low and that the illegitimate children of nobles were typically denied inheritance rights. However, this particular illegitimate child was a unique case. The viscount’s legitimate son suffered from a debilitating illness, which meant that he might not live for much longer. This circumstance caused the illegitimate son’s mind to become active as he considered the possibility of securing his father’s inheritance.

In the past, the illegitimate son had been known for his diligence, always rushing to complete tasks and treating the Viscountess with greater kindness than even his mother. This had won him the favour of the Viscountess. However, in recent days, something had happened to him.

Suddenly, he had become decadent and aimless, neglecting his duties and spending his days and nights idly. His favourite pastime now was drinking, socialising, occasionally attending the technical academy, and sleeping. Rumours circulated that the reason for this sudden change was that a priest of the Holy See had miraculously healed the Viscount’s legitimate son.

The illegitimate son had fallen into hopelessness as he saw no way to secure his future. This was a justifiable reason for his recent behaviour until one fateful night. A group of thugs had approached him, attempting to rob him of his money. However, the illegitimate son rallied a few of his associates and led them to an empty alley, where he fought back, senselessly beating the attackers.

Considering how weak he had been before, this sudden display of strength was surprising. Coincidentally, one of the thugs happened to be employed by the three individuals observing the illegitimate son. These individuals were known to be the best intelligence gatherers in the city, and they employed these idle gangsters as their informants.

The beaten thug sought revenge but knew he was not strong enough to handle the situation alone. So, he reported the incident to the three individuals who had hired him, and they began to follow the illegitimate son, hoping to gather more information on his recent behaviour.

In the tavern, the illegitimate son was happily drinking and even joked, “Haha, it’s my golden finger that makes you fight so hard that you can become stronger by lying down.”

As it turned out, this guy was also a protagonist and possessed a unique ability called a “golden finger.” This golden finger was a system that became stronger the more one lazed around. By doing nothing at all, one could accumulate rewards from the system. Of course, the rewards were limited if one simply slept all day, so the illegitimate son went out every day to drink, bask in the sun, and occasionally attend the technical academy.

Life was delightful for the illegitimate son. In his opinion, as long as he avoided any potential villains and prevented them from discovering him, he could safely and steadily become stronger. As he possessed the system, he no longer cared about the Viscount’s family wealth and property. After drinking for a while, the illegitimate child glanced at his system panel and saw that the wine he had just consumed had given him a good reward. With a smile, he stood up and prepared to head to his next destination.

However, the three members of Su Mo’s intelligence organisation had been following him. “His strength should be at the second level, so be careful,” one of them warned the others.

“Let the ambush ahead handle it. Our strength is not enough to deal with him,” the other two nodded in agreement.

The three members of the intelligence organisation were still discussing their plan when suddenly the protagonist turned around and addressed them, “Is someone following me?” Unknown to them, he had already sensed their presence. “Three rats, just try my new skills,” he added confidently.

But just as he began to walk towards an alley, a wooden stick suddenly struck him with lightning speed, causing him to fall to the ground before he could even react. It seemed that he had not noticed the ambush set up for him.

“Nima…”

The protagonist was struck with a wooden stick but did not lose consciousness and even cursed.

“Huh? Not out yet?” A voice sounded, followed by the sound of the wind.

“Fu*k!”

The protagonist collapsed, and his eyes grew dark as he lost consciousness.

“It’s finished!”

In the darkness, a figure dressed in black appeared, clapped their hands, and retrieved a rope.

Meanwhile, a large-scale kidnapping operation began under Su Mo’s orders in various cities across the Crescent Kingdom. Many suspected protagonists were knocked unconscious with sap.
