I no longer want to be a part of this triangle

Chapter 9- Wild Kohana

[Kazuki's POV:]

After taking a rest at the restaurant we decided to just walk around the nearby park and chat for a bit. I had planned a trip to the amusement park. But one adventure in a day was enough for me.

We were currently walking side by side with silence currently surrounding us. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence. It felt pleasant, especially after hearing her confession back then.

It made me realise that not everyone in this world pursues someone for their face value. At least not Kohana-chan. She admires not only my good traits but also my shortcomings and how I overcome them.

It was a strange feeling. Getting admired by someone like this.

"So you also live alone, Senpai?" Kohana-chan asked.

"Yep...but that doesn't mean we can live together already."

Kohana paused for a moment before complaining with her eyes becoming bigger, "How cruel, Senpai! I won't suggest something so shameless."

"Haha, I know. I was just teasing you."

A low 'hmph' sound made me realise that the small girl actually has an adorable temper. She looks hamster-level cute when angry.

*Dhak*

"Ah!" Suddenly, someone bumped into her, and before she could fall, I pulled her in my arms.

"Sorry, " The guy apologised before walking away.

I kept Kohana attached to me before asking, "Are you all right?"

With slightly red cheeks, she nodded and slowly got up. However, since the walking path wasn't too wide, I decided to keep holding her hand so she doesn't end up crashing into another person.

Her hand felt warm and soft. Almost like mochi. The sudden urge to bite her hand arose but I quieted the urge before I could have come out as a weirdo.

I glanced at her and found a shy smile on her face as she kept her eyes on the ground.

Looking at her I also began to feel a little shy. This wasn't my first time holding a girl's hand...but this was feeling a little different. It was like I was holding something that was mine.

'Hey wait...what did I just-'

"Ah!" Suddenly, Kohana exclaimed, and instinctively, I grabbed the guy who bumped into her the second time.

"Hey, what are you-"

"No, no, you can't blabber after harassing a girl twice." I grabbed his throat and pushed him against a tree. The last time I saw him grinning while he apologized to Kohana, I thought it was my misunderstanding. But for the second time?

He struggled, but the kid was, at most, a middle-high student, so his strength was not something I felt threatened about.

"Now why don't you say sorry and just leave like a good kid?"

The kid understood that retaliation was futile so he went ahead and spat on me.

"Howwwww!" The group of guys nearby howled in excitement as I turned my face away which was splattered with spit.

Now this was making me piss-

"You damn fucker!" Suddenly, the boy was grabbed from my hold and under my shocked gaze, Kohana punched him in the face.

"Waaaaahhhh!" The group again howled, and I was one of them.

She grabbed his hair, lowered him and speared her knee in his face—making the guy stagger and fall on his butt

Kohana was beyond furious as she marched towards him, and after raising her heel, she targeted his family jewels, only for the guy to split his legs and narrowly save his ball.

"Owwwwww~~~" The group showed remorse. Wait, weren't you guys with him?

Kohana widened her eyes and stepped forward, intending to crush his balls after all. But I showed him some mercy and held her from behind.

"Kohana, Kohana...that's alright. He has already learned his lesson." Kohana was flailing in my arm to let go so she could finish taking revenge.

The guy was beyond petrified as, with a pale face, he nodded in agreement to my statement.

Slowly, Kohana calmed down, and the offender ran away as fast as he could.

I led Kohana to a nearby bench and made her sit on it. Rushing toward the nearest stall, I brought a bottle of water, which I used to wash my face.

Kohana-chan got up and slowly helped me wipe my face. She was currently flushed red to the tip of her ears. She looked so red that I got concerned about her health.

"What are you flustered about?" I asked after grabbing her hand which was holding the towel.

She didn't look up and uttered in a barely audible tone, "Senpai doesn't like rough girls...no?"

I heaved a sigh and said, "Seriously, after making me mesmerized by your charisma, you are worrying that I won't like you?"

Kohana looked up instantly with her eyes turned round in excitement, "You don't hate girls who fight?"

"Who told you that?"

She shyly said, "I-I mean, you had a crush on Katori-senpai, who is a delicate girl, so..."

Oh, so it was like that.

I grabbed Koahana's shoulder and told her, "When you like someone, you start to make their behaviour and everything related to them your favourite. Isn't it the same for you, too, Kohana?"

She tilted her head before reminding me, "But Senpai...even though you don't like horror movies, earlier I didn't say I also don't like them."

...true.

I also tilted my head before asking, "Then why was I behaving so stupidly with Katori?"

Kohana didn't have an answer to that...or more like she didn't say it for fear of hurting my feelings.

But truth be told, a corner of my mind already knows the answer.

I never loved Katori. She was just a trophy in my eyes which I wanted to win by defeating Kohta.

So that means, Kohana can be my first love? That doesn't sound too bad.

Not so long after I dropped Kohana back home since it was already too late. She seemed reluctant to part ways but we had to.

"Let's do a home date tomorrow?" When I suggested she beamed with a happy smile, and that helped me walk away without concern.

Seriously, a sad Kohana can easily make one's heart throb painfully.

Our home was a little far that's why I took a cab back to my apartment.

"Thank you." Thanking the driver, I climbed out....only to halt upon finding a familiar face standing near the entrance of my apartment building.

It was

 Katori.
