James watched the thick smoke rising from the pit.

He had to admit that these disgusting things sent by the cultists had extremely tenacious vitality. Even though they were already wrapped in flames, those internal organs, tentacles, and that severed arm were still constantly twisting and struggling in the flames.

3

After about half an hour, most of the offerings had completely burnt into ashes and the last arm had also finally stopped struggling.

James felt a lot more relieved to see these evil things burn into ashes with his own eyes. Then, he shoveled up some dirt to bury them.

By the time he finished all his work, it was already noon.

The sun in the sky was extremely hot. James wiped the sweat from his forehead and slumped against a patch of weeds.

2

Then, his stomach started to growl.

After carrying the heavy sack for so long, digging a hole, and burying the sack, he had consumed a lot of his energy. In addition, he had left the house early and hadn’t eaten breakfast. This made James feel light-headed, as if his body had been hollowed out.

The hunger in his stomach and the fatigue in his body told him that it was time for lunch.

James didn’t bring anything else since he left in a hurry. He didn’t think much and rested for a while before turning around to return the way he came.

At this moment, the void beside him was suddenly distorted, and a blood-red array appeared in front of him.

“It can’t be. Don’t do it now!”

James was on the verge of breaking down.

At this moment, he was extremely hungry and weak. How could he face those strange things?

Those cultists usually made their sacrifices in the morning or in the afternoon, but he didn’t expect it to be in the afternoon this time.

1

Could it be that they were going to send an even more terrifying offering?

He was afraid that another arm or something else would come out of the array as he could not defeat these things now.

But it was too late for him to escape now.

James looked at the array warily. As long as anything dangerous emerged, he planned to immediately subdue it. However, if he failed, then he would run!

After so many days, James had discovered quite a few patterns. When those living creatures crossed over, they would be temporarily stunned.

Thus, he had to bring them under control before they regained their senses.

But now, it was simply too late to escape.

Very quickly, the array flickered for a second before the red light dissipated. However, the sacrificial items that appeared in front of him were somewhat unexpected.

Five black eggs were neatly arranged in a circle on the ground.

Each egg was the size of a fist, and was completely black. They were also covered in dark red patterns.

After staring at the five eggs for a long time to make sure that nothing else had changed, James finally dared to step forward and pick one up.

Nothing strange happened when his fingers touched the eggshell, and there was nothing strange about its texture either. Furthermore, there was no bad reaction when he got closer to the egg.

He picked up the egg and shook it beside his ear. He could even sense the liquid flowing inside.

The hungry James suddenly had a strange idea.

He picked up a stone and broke the shell of the black egg in his hand. Inside the egg was a dark yellow egg yolk, some semi-translucent egg liquid, and some slightly white matter.

It seemed to be no different from an ordinary egg.

2

It shouldn’t be a problem for him to eat one.

16

Looking at the black egg, James had a bold idea.

It just so happened that he still had some tinder with him. Furthermore, it happened that the kettle he used to carry drinking water could serve as a small pot…

1

However, after carefully examining the contents of the egg, he hesitated again.

Inside the black egg, apart from the tempting egg yolk, there was also a thick, dark red substance in the black egg that flowed as if it had a life of its own. When he stared at the strange fluid with full concentration, he quickly felt a faint dizzying sensation.

1

James’ previous experiences told him that there was definitely something wrong with this egg. After all, the things that had been sacrificed previously were all harmful.

But…

Burp!

Ten minutes later, James patted his belly in satisfaction. Meanwhile, a pile of black eggshells lay scattered on the ground in front of him.

1

In the end, he couldn’t resist the temptation and ate the eggs.

Apart from the slightly fishy smell, the eggs tasted quite good.

7

After eating his fill, James stood up from the ground. Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his head.

At the same time, James felt as if something was stirring wildly in his mind. It was as if his brain had turned into a boiling paste that was filled with violent and frantic emotions.

“F**k, this egg is poisonous…”

6

After staggering a few steps, James blacked out and fell to the ground.

As the sun set, its golden afterglow shone on the ground.

“Ha ~”

Rubbing his heavy eyelids, James yawned widely and sat up in the grass.

His head was still a little dizzy, and his vision swayed slightly. His memory was also a little fuzzy.

He only remembered what had happened when he saw the black eggshells beside him.

He remembered that he must have been poisoned. But why did his body seem to be fine now?

Apart from his confused mind, there were no other abnormalities.

“Strange, why is it that I can recover after sleeping, no matter what the problem is?”

Shaking his head, James ignored the deep murmurs that lingered in his mind. He picked up his sack and luggage before walking towards Saint Laurent City.

When he remembered that he still had work to do today, he quickened his pace.
