Immortal Cultivator System

Chapter 75: Sorrow and Hatred ( End )

Be it merchants, normal citizens or even the guards, everyone would step away from the path of the two Zhao Warriors walking side by side. One could wonder how no one knew about the situation with the Zhao Warriors who joined the war, but weirdly enough the guards did seem to be aware of something. Yet they said nothing and simply ignored the two, placing themselves in front of the citizens just in case anything went wrong.

However the two siblings weren't there for such a reason. They had things to say and were looking for a place to talk. They finally settled for a fancy restaurant, and before Zhao Shu could say anything, the girl motioned for a waitress to come over and take their orders. She ordered a bottle of Orchid Wine, a popular alcohol amongst the common foot soldiers, and then ordered a serving of vanilla biscuits for her brother.

The waitress was about to ask if they wanted anything else, but quickly ushered away when she heard a cracking sound and saw Zhao Shu's hand on the table and it cracking under the pressure. A Zhao Warrior who looked like he was ready to kill ? That was entirely too much for a normal waitress.

If the siblings had paid any attention to the waitress, they would've noticed she went running to her boss and warned him about the two potentially dangerous clients.

As such, the siblings were quickly served and the girl didn't even wait for the terrified waitress to speak. She broke the upper part of the bottle and lifted it over her mouth. As the sweet alcohol entered her mouth, the waitress watched in horror as she noticed little shards of glass pouring in the girl's mouth.

"Hmm, m-miss ?" The waitress asked, unsure as to what she was supposed to do. She wanted to warn the girl, but alas it didn't look like she was needed. As the bottle emptied, the girl simply close her mouth and started to chew the shards of glass before spitting blood on the ground.

"Been a while, brother." She opened up with this line. The waitress quickly left once more as Zhao Shu put a hand over his face.

"After all those years, why are you still so reckless. Last time you insulted the big guy, but you're still the one taking risks for no reasons." He said.

"Ha ! I have weak bones, but the rest of my body is still up to the Zhao standards ! As if I'm gonna die for some blood spilt. And you know I love to scare people." She said, smiling savagely at her brother who still wouldn't look at her. He was clearly uncomfortable, but so was she. She was simply a better actress.

"Well...That much is true. But....Why have you come to see me ?" Zhao Shu asked, his voice slightly cracking in the end. This apparently wasn't the right way for him to act, as his sister snorted and glared at him.

"What ? I can't come over to say hello now ?" She asked, faking an angry tone. Unfortunately that wouldn't work on Zhao Shu who punched the table, breaking it completly as the other clients shook.

Whilst everyone's eyes were on them Zhao Shu, who still wouldn't look at his sister, yelled.

"Don't play with me ! Last time, you were so eager to leave, and now it's all normal ?! The fuck changed ?!"

Faced with this outburst, the girl merely remained stone faced before glaring at the other clients. They got the message and all left the restaurant while the manager and the waitresses hid behind the counter.

"Well.....I can't exactly hide from you forever...And neither can you hide. " She answered, scratching her cheeks as Zhao Shu snarled.

"Yeah, and this is the perfect time to do that huh ? You come over to say hello just when the tribes joined a war on the main continent. A war that pits them against my sect in case you have forgotten. Though they must be too busy killing everyone on their path to even care about the sect." He said. However the girl didn't even flinch nor denied his claim.

"Of course this wasn't just motivated by my desire to see you...Not that I had any desires to even see you, or to hear anything about you to be honest. But father asked me to check up on you...And then mother did too....You see where I am going, right ?" She asked as Zhao Shu's body began to tremble.

"T-They aren't coming here, right ?" He hurriedly asked.

"Of course not. Mother is too busy being the perfect wife for father...And father is doing who knows what. I only saw him when I was about to leave for the main continent. Before that, he had been on a hunt for two years. No one knows what he was hunting, except a certain guy....One of the higher ups of that organisation.....The flies, you know them right ? Yeah well one of those guys showed up. Our leaders all knew about him for some reasons, treated them entirely too nicely considering we usually gut outsiders as soon as they approach us. He told father about a certain beast and father left to hunt it. " She explained, earning a face palm from Zhao Shu.

"Look at me panicking for nothing. Of course they wouldn't come. But since you're here, might as well ask. What's the plan ? Why have the tribes decided to join the war ?" He asked. It was only after this question left his mouth that he realized how stupid it was to ask such a thing out in public. However instead of telling him to come closer so she could reveal it, or even curse him for saying something to indiscreet, she simply let out a hollow laugh.

"Plan, huh ? If only we had one. We simply join and that's it. Some envoys came, asked us to join, offered to give us some random shit in return...Nothing they proposed was interesting.....Except what that guy from the flies had to propose. I didn't hear what it was, but it had the leaders salivating. Then again, I'm pretty sure that guy is against us. I got all sorts of alerts standing right besides him. The leaders most likely know that. My guess is that they are listening to his orders for now, but if he does end up betraying us, they'll use the informations we got from our spies to track him down and take the prize from his cold hands." She said without even making the effort of lowering her voice. She had just said that without a care in the world. But it did show one thing, she was fed up with whatever the tribes were doing at the moment.

" Damn.....I guess I'm lucky to have left before the situation could get like that. Sounds like the tribes are no more than glorified foot soldiers now. " Zhao Shu jokingly said. The siblings both shared a good laugh, before silence overtook them once more.

"Since we already talked about this matter, let's go onto the real important matter." She said all of a sudden. Zhao Shu finally looked at her, only to instantly look away as he saw her hollow eyes.

"I-I...I would rather not talk about this. The past isn't something I want to be reminded of. And I have been doing a good job forgetting about you." He said. However she wouldn't have none of that. She grabbed his hand and laughed.

"Hahahaha, you ain't getting away now. We ARE going to talk about this. We are going to have a nice little talk, and maybe we will end up killing each other at the end. But at least, it would've been discussed. We can't just ignore this forever. We used to be so close, we used to be each other's extention. Now look at us ! A single incident and we are like strangers !" She exclaimed as Zhao Shu flinched. She was truly a good actress to hide her current feelings. But she had to be strong, because Zhao Shu didn't look he wanted to even hear about she he had to say.

"Shu...Please. We need to have this tal-"

"Later !" He exclaimed as he removed his hand. He looked at the ground while shaking with rage.

"I really don't want to think about it now. I might just explode and try to kill you on the spot. After the war has ended, after we have shed some light on the incident...We will talk about it. But this situation isn't good for such a talk, and since we still have no idea what really happened...We might really end up fighting for no reasons. Try to discover what happened on your side, I'll try to see if I can recall anything more from the incident." He said as he got up and was about to leave.

"It has been so many years, Shu. You know we aren't going to discover anything more..." She said as he threw a last look in her direction.

"I know....But it does give me an excuse to get some more time...I am just not ready for this. And If I do kill you....If I end up discovering years later that it wasn't the right choice...I'll forever regret it." He said before finally leaving.

However this wasn't the end of it. As his sister watched his departing back, she sighed before taking the biscuits she had ordered for him. She looked at them and then put a finger on her mouth. Taking some of the blood at the corner of her mouth, she then drew a smile on the biscuit as another hollow laugh left her.

"Upon the legions you have killed, oh great deceiver, hath you ever shown remorse ? Hath you ever felt the sorrow of the broken families....Hath you ever felt their hatred...My hatred~.....But it's alright, let us all smile.....The end hasn't come yet, oh great deceiver~"
