Invite Players to a Cultivation World

4: Prepare for Players

I wave goodbye as the flying chariot leaves.

They were certainly a nice bunch. Once I have some suitably capable disciples I'll probably issue tasks for them to help out the Blossom Alliance Sects.

But that's a long ways from now. For now I need to focus on actually getting some disciples.

The first step would have to be to make a building to greet them in. It can also contain their rooms.

It will also need to have a kitchen, dinning hall, library, an office for me to use...

I guess I'll be making the main sect building. At least for until I'm ready to expand.

Might as well get to it.

...

...

...

Well that wasn't particularly hard.

All I had to do is find a suitable clearing and set up the materials I had been keeping in one of my storage rings.

Unfortunately that's most of my building materials gone. They shouldn't be too hard to replace though.

Now I wonder how long it will be until my contracted magical race has finished their side of the preparations.

'Fae! How about it? Do you need much longer.'

All preparations are complete.

Your previous actions have aligned suitably with our values.

Your proposed plan aligns strongly with our values. No reason to reject at this stage.

Next step is for you to create unassigned vessels for soul fragments.

'That was fast. Surely it would be a bit suspicious for everything to happen in a single day?'

Time flows differently between Earth and Cultivation Worlds.

The time dilation of Cultivation Worlds is decided by us, allowing for full control over the relative flow of time compared to Earth.

'That would have been nice to know earlier.'

Granting non-relevant information is difficult for us.

'I know. So how long has it been since I died.'

Approximately 1 month.

So long as there is one Earth soul fragment in the Cultivation world, time will be synchronised.

'Well that makes perfect sense. You've decided on the first few players?'

Yes. Three 'players' have been chosen.

At your recommendation, they are acting as paid beta testers, with one being a well liked streamer in need of a unique selling point.

'Perfect.'

Well it's good to know I won't need to wait. Now I just need to make some unassigned vessels.

It's probably a good idea to use the local resources to do this. Eventually I'll have my disciples do this instead, so I should ensure everyone has the same starting point.

I guess I'll also need to remember to speak English when talking to them. I has been a long time since I used that language.

Phil is a streamer, and former professional beta tester for video games.

He's popular enough to comfortably make a living, but certainly not especially well known.

His problem is that he wants to be the most popular streamer for a game, but so far every game he's tried either hasn't clicked, or is so popular that there's too much competition.

That's why he accepted the new job offer.

Beta test a VR game with supposedly cutting edge technology that allows you to play during your sleep, without feeling any more tired during the day.

Normal he wouldn't consider going back to his old job, but the contract specified that he would be allowed to stream everything he does in the game. This means once the game goes public, he will have the home field advantage. That is so long as the game is actually good.

He's fully aware that this is probably just a marketing technique, but since he can cancel the contract at any time and isn't forced to say anything good about the game, he figures he might as well give it a shot.

Rachel has been struggling for some time now.

Her twin sisters illness means she can't navigate most aspects of life without help, but at the same time they need money to put food on the table.

It breaks Rachels heart to know that while she's out working, her sister is alone, struggling to do the most basic of things, and incredibly lonely.

That's why this job offer is perfect.

The pay is good, but most importantly is the fact that she can literally do it in her sleep.

If this job can last, her sister will never be forced to be alone again.

Nathan is a role-player.

Whenever he plays a game, he imagines himself in the place of his character and decides his actions accordingly.

What he doesn't like is when it's impossible to do the things he wants.

Sure, it's fine when it's something that should be greatly discouraged, like killing vital NPCs. That's just part of living in a real world.

But why can't he make a hidden pit trap, and lure the enemy to it?

He knows that games can't account for everything, but he's still been hoping to find something that comes close.

That's why the new job offer interested him in the first place.

An expansive world where the only thing limiting you is your imagination, physical capabilities, and the rules of society.

It's a claim many game devs have made, but it has two extra caveats.

Those caveats actually make him more confident this what he's been looking for. You don't really exist in a world unless you have to obey such rules.
