MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith

Chapter 1112 First Mission

1112  First Mission

After leaving the main mission hall, Valyr swiftly made his way to one of the military base's exits while asking a couple of passersby as to how he'd get to the frontlines.

With the help of a few kind people, the young man was eventually able to get his answer, immediately activating one of his movement skills the moment he left the military base.

"[Azure Dragon Soaring Skies]."

Whoosh!

Unlike [Flight of the Azure Dragon], the movement skill Valyr activated did not cause an azure dragon to manifest underneath his feet. Instead, the energy he released transformed into a shell that covered his entire body.

Not long after, this shell began to morph on its own, taking on the shape of an azure dragon before allowing Valyr to hover a few meters off the ground.

Imposing his thought on the skill after that, Valyr soon began to zoom through the air as he set the skill to head straight to the frontlines.

Swoosh!

Though the speed [Azure Dragon Soaring Skies] was able to muster paled in comparison to what [Flight of the Azure Dragon] was capable of, Valyr still moved in the air at great speeds, causing a few people that were moving on the ground to look up at him in shock.

Slightly grinning at the reactions he was getting amidst his travels, the young man eventually returned his attention to what was before him, prompting him to be greeted by a somewhat familiar sight not long after.

Fwoosh!

Deactivating his movement skill the moment he felt he was only a few hundred meters away from the sight that greeted him, Valyr deftly landed on the ground as he took in a deep breath, soon focusing his attention on the agglomeration of buildings in front of him.

"The barracks," murmured the young man, taking note of how a couple of the various buildings looked similar to some that could be found back at the military base.

However, unlike the military base, which looked like a small city of sorts, the barracks in front of the young man was undoubtedly militaristic in nature.

"Judging by how long it took me to arrive here from the military base… I'd say they're separated by a couple dozen kilometers or so?" Muttering these words to himself, Valyr soon made his way to the barracks proper, only to be immediately given a taste of what the battlefield had to offer.

The moment he entered the barracks, the young man was immediately greeted by the sight of many people covered in blood in varying degrees, most of them having blood on their bodies that weren't their own.

Shifting his gaze somewhere else for a bit, he was then greeted by the sight of people that had received grievous injuries on the battlefield, with some of the injuries even making him wonder how they were still alive.

Shifting his gaze towards the other end of the barracks, Valyr could see from afar that the battlefield itself could be found there, faintly seeing the large number of humans and orcs pitting their lives against each other.

Though, just as the young man was about to make his way to the other end to get a better look of the battlefield, a middle-aged man stopped him all of a sudden.

"Halt." Giving off a slightly bloodthirsty air, a man donning a dusty military appeared in front of him, his expression looking as if he hadn't gotten even a wink of sleep for days. "Identification token."

Having been given a heads-up by Aleos beforehand, the young man immediately knew what he needed to do, nodding as he took out his identification token from his spatial bracelet.

After that, he passed both his token and the mission he took to the man, prompting the man to nod back in response.

"2-star mercenary mission, but the one taking it is a novice mercenary." The man slightly frowned as he looked back and forth between the two items, only for him to raise his eyebrow in curiosity soon after. "Oh? Strength verified to equal that of a 10-star mercenary?"

With that discovery, it did not take long for the man to understand what was going on. "Ylvar, was it? This your first mission?"

"Yes, sir." Valyr nodded in response.

"Good, good." The man faintly smiled as he nodded back. "A good idea to get some experience first before taking on the harder missions."

"The name's Gerald. Captain Gerald," said the man soon after. "Just in case you might find it weird that a high-ranking military officer is doing this, this is just the job I chose."

"In any case, good luck, and don't bite off more than you can chew."

"Thank you." Receiving his token and the mission back from the man, Valyr watched Gerald's silhouette disappear from his vision for a bit before making his way towards the other end of the barracks.

Once there, he pushed his perception to his limit to get a better idea of the situation, immediately noticing that there was another gap of a couple kilometers between the barracks and the actual battlefield.

Realizing that one of the reasons why that was the case was due to the defensive line blocking most of the orcs' more destructive offensives, Valyr went ahead and activated [Flash of the Azure Dragon], temporarily increasing his movement speed as he began to run.

Whoosh!

'It'd be incredibly stupid if I were to use that skill to head to the battlefield,' inwardly muttered Valyr to himself, getting the feeling that some people had undoubtedly done that before he arrived. 'If you do that, you're just basically advertising yourself as a target to your enemies.' The young man chuckled at the thought.

Giving himself some time to gather his thoughts as he continued to run through the plains separating him from the battlefield, Valyr eventually felt himself to be in peak condition the moment he arrived at the battlefield proper.

"Raaaghhh!!!"

"Grrraaaggghhhh!!!"

Hearing the sounds of fighting echo wherever his eyes landed on, Valyr immediately became vigilant as he utilized his agility and dexterity to the fullest, swerving his way through the various fights happening around him.

Considering that many of them were forced to focus all of their attention on their foes, it could be said that Valyr's movements through the battlefield were close to becoming untraceable.

However, as the range of strength across the battlefield spanned from the early levels of Rank 3 to the peak of Rank 5, there were still a few that noticed what he was doing, their eyes slightly widening in response.

'Now then. Time to find targets to kill.' Recalling the description of the mission he'd picked up, Valyr began to look for orcs at the early levels of Rank 4, pushing his perception to the limit to see if there were any nearby that were occupied with fighting.

Fortunately, just as he had set his eyes upon a small group of orcs at that rank, a couple of orcs from somewhere else began to make his way to where he was, madly dashing towards him with their weapons as they thought of the young man as easy pickings.

Sensing those two orcs charging towards him, the young man immediately used his identification skill on them, smiling as he confirmed that their levels met the criteria for his mission.

Briefly pondering over which method he should use to fight against them, the young man decided to bring out a weapon from his spatial bracelet, specifically one that had seen its last use back in the inheritance.

"Been a while since I've used you," murmured the young man with a chuckle as he gazed at the Arcane Scepter of Redemption. "I should really upgrade you if I have the chance."

"Raaaaaahhhh!!!"

"Grraaaaggghhhh!!!"

Continuing to keep an eye on the two orcs aiming to kill him, Valyr eventually made his move as he began to charge towards them.

Whoosh!

Putting a bit more strength into his legs, it did not take long for the distance between them to shorten, prompting Valyr to conjure a bolt of Prime Azure Energy with the scepter.

Swoosh!

Just as a battle near Valyr finally reached its conclusion, one of the men making up that winning group noticed what Valyr was doing. 'A mana bolt?'

'He really thinks a mana bolt is enough to take care of them?' The man scoffed at the thought, only to be left at a loss for words as he watched the young man manipulate the bolt soon after.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Imbuing the element of Wind into the bolt, Valyr aimed the energy bolt straight for the orcs' heads, acting as if it were the scythe of a death reaper.

Then again, with Valyr's INT stat already beyond 4,000 points, one could say that it wasn't any different from an actual scythe, turning the heads of both orcs into pulp as their decapitated bodies soon fell lifeless to the ground.

Thud! Thud!

Watching the two orcs fall to the ground in response to his move, Valyr flashed a slight smile before taking out a dagger from his spatial bracelet.

Then, moving closer to the orcs he just killed, he went ahead and cut off one of their fingers with the dagger.

"I suppose this is enough proof," murmured Valyr to himself as he nodded in satisfaction.

Pocketing the fingers he cut off into one of his pockets after that, the young man returned the dagger back to his spatial bracelet before letting out a brief exhale.

"Now then."

"Two down… eight more to go."

And thus, the perfect number is broken.
