My Beloved Dog is the Strongest in Another World

We talked with Mr. Harnes

“So, what happened with those dogs? I do not remember them being here the last time…”

“Yes. They were not.”

First, Mr. Ekenhart asked the thing he had been wondering about.

“After Mr. Takumi and Leo saved our village, we had to think of other ways to stay safe. Of course, we will fight if monsters attack, but it would be nice to know beforehand.”

“Hmm. Indeed. You would have time to run away or prepare to fight.”

“Yes. From what Mr. Takumi told me, Leo is able to detect monsters that are still far away.”

“Indeed.”

“And so remembering this, we decided to search for something that could do the same.”

“No… We were thinking of wolves, first.”

“Wolves… Yes, they do have a sharper sense of smell compared to humans. However, isn’t that a little dangerous?”

“Yes…we occasionally see wolves in the forest to the north…but they are fast, and we are unable to catch them.”

I have never seen any wolves myself, but they were likely similar to the fenrirs.

Though, they must be much weaker, if the villagers were trying to catch them.

“In the first place, if you want wolves to help you, you must make a contract. And so we decided to start with dogs, and train some of the villagers to be stronger. And then later, we might be able to catch a wolf…”

“I see. Once the dogs grow, they will become quite fast. And so raising them will make it easier to understand wolves, which will make it easier to catch them in the future.”

“Yes. The village must be able to protect itself without the duke or Mr. Takumi’s help. Of course, we are grateful for what you did. It was the news about Mr. Takumi and Lady Claire that made us decide on it.”

What did it have to do with us moving?

After all, we would be bringing guards for Ms. Claire. And then there was Leo and Sherry.

Surely it would be safe enough?

“While it happened so suddenly, you helped us. With both the disease and the monsters. And so now we want to help you… Of course, we are also trying to continue with production of the wine. Though, we do not have grapes yet, so we are just making preparations.”

“Hmm. I see. But…well… What do you think, Mr. Takumi?”

“Why are you asking me?”

“While I am the lord of these lands, you are the one who is going to live here. I would ask Claire, but since she is not here…I want to know your opinion.”

“Hah…very well.”

I was the one who would be making the herb fields. And the one living here. So I would have to talk with Mr. Harnes a lot.

“Uh… First of all, I’m grateful for your consideration. It shows how much you and the people here have accepted us.”

“Yes.”

“However, I really don’t think it is necessary for you and the villagers to worry about our protection. Because we have Leo and the guards. They will be able to deal with any monsters that might attack. Besides, I have been learning to use a sword from Mr. Ekenhart…so I should be able to fight much better than before against orcs.”

“Indeed. It is not as if the guards are only for Claire. They must protect Mr. Takumi, Leo, the herbs and wine. This very village too.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Isn’t that right, Mr. Takumi?”

“You’re asking me again? Uh…I suppose.”

I did not want the villagers to be forced to do something they couldn’t. They were not trained to fight in the first place.

I liked this village because the people had fun and played with Leo…
