My Enigmatic Life

Volume Five, Prologue:

Osaka, Japan's capital city. Its streets are always overwhelmed by the usual hither-thither of daily life. Its bulidings always a-glow with bright, mesmerising lights. In a sense, it contrasts with its rural areas completely.

Once night falls, the people of this small area seek refuge in their beds until the sun rises again in the morning. With a doubt, a level of tranquility blankets this small town. Unfortunately, this night is far different from the rest for those dwelling in this town's local temple.

"I keep telling you, we don't know!"

A middle-aged man shouts, his fear slowly being out-paced by his anger. His wife clings to him tightly, as if to tell him to keep his temper.

"Is that so, old man? I have to say, I still find it hard to believe. What about you, Hattori?"

Hanayama turns to his cohort, who's laid against a wall with his arms folded.

"I believe that I'm begining to lose my patience. I'll ask just once more, where is The Orb of Salvation?"

The man speaks, a level of incredulity creeping into his voice.

"I already said that we don't know, alright! I don't even believe that it even exist! It's just some folk tale that's been passed down throughout the years!"

Hattori and Hanayama look at each other, the latter shrugs.

"That's what the last lady said too.", He says.

"Hmph. Just another dead-end.", Hattori remarks.

"Commanders Hattori and Hanayama!"

One of the lower level members of Shade's gang busts into the room, clearly panicked.

"There are two Enigma Squadrons here! What do we do?"

The couple try their best to hide their relief upon hearing this good news.

"Tch. Of course... Tell everyone to retreat, now."

"Yes, Commander Hattori!"

Hanayama shows his disappointment immeadiately.

"Ehhhh? Why are we running? Let's give them a fight!"

Hattori narrows his eyes at his ally.

"Don't be stupid. Shade doesn't want us to be seen more than we need to, remember?"

"Yeah, yeah.."

Hanayama tosses a paper onto the ground that creates a magic circle, he and Hattori step into it and, in a blinding flash of light, they disappear from the scene entirely.

The couple sighs in relief. The nightmare is over.

"You have to be more restrained, dear. You could've been killed!"

The man's wife chastises him, but he simply nods dismissively. He can't help but ask.

"If that orb is real...what do they want it for?"

The woman just looks at her husband, unable to give him an answer.
