Noob Player

Chapter 35: The Noob at Wit's End

Director Guan Mu Sheng was laughing hard from behind the desk. He was observing Runner, the first person to find the Legendary Tribe in the world.

He was amused by how Runner suddenly got excited and later he was depressed because the idea did not work. It was repeated time and again.

The recent one was quite funny as well when Runner tried to stab the spearhead fish with Gift Spear. The man forgot about the level requirement and was shocked when he dealt zero damage.

Runner's expression when that happened was so precious that Director Guan was so entertained. Now once again, Runner was in despair.

The spearhead fish he fought for almost an hour died, but he did not get the exp. He was laughing hard from watching this. It was great entertainment for him, who was stuck in the office all day.

"He should do a live stream, I bet many people will watch him because of how funny he is," Director Guan shook his head.

The reason Runner did not get the exp was that he did not kill the monster. Yes, the monster died because it was out of breath. The player could not get the exp by just luring the fish monster out of the water.

Of course, there was a certain case that could be applied to get the exp. A trap for example. If a player made a trap and the monster died in the trap, the player could gain the exp.

What Runner did to the monster would not gain him the exp. He had to kill the monster, not dodging around.

"I am curious what he would do now?" Director Guan muttered while smiling by himself. He knew that Runner would not give up.

Half an hour later, Runner found another unique way to defeat the spearhead fish, "That's actually a good idea," Director Guan's eyes brightened when he witnessed what Runner tried to do.

The runner had his back on a big tree, standing there while the spearhead fish was walking closer toward him. The spearhead fish lunged toward Shen as he ducked down, dodging the strike.

The spearhead fish's snout struck the tree and it stuck. It was stuck on the tree.

"That's a brilliant idea, but he still lacked the damage," Director Guan shook his head.

The game was made more complicated than the predecessor. First, Runner had to kill the spearhead fish before his SP (Stamina) depleted or even before the fish was out of breath. Second, the thing that Runner overlooked now, the inferior grade sword's durability.

He fought against a monster that was a much higher level than him. To use that kind of weapon against the fish, the sword's durability would be decreased much faster. On top of that, Runner was in the middle of nowhere. No blacksmith could help him repair the sword. If the sword's durability turned zero, then he would no longer have a weapon to kill the monster.

*** ***

Just like Director Guan predicted, it happened to Shen.

Five minutes continuously swung his sword at the fish, he realized the issue. He looked at the sword in his hand.

————————

[Rusty Sword]

Grade: Inferior

Attack: 1-3

Durability: 72%

————————

The spearhead fish's health bar was barely reduced after the continuous strikes yet he almost lost 30% of his sword's durability. At this point, the sword would break before he could kill the spearhead fish.

"Hah…" Shen plopped down on the ground and looked toward the struggling fish. He could not kill it without a good weapon. If the sword broke, that would be the end of him.

"It seems there's no option but to restart the character…" he was at the wit's end. He had found a way to kill the spearhead fish, but he did not have the right equipment to kill it.

There was no blacksmith in this place to repair his sword either. It meant killing the monster was not the way to get stronger here.

Escape was not an option either. He had explored the surrounding area. The further from the village, he would encounter an even stronger monster that practically instantly killed him.

"There must be a way… There must be a way…" Shen was rolling on the ground while scratching his head. The frustration took over him.

Rolling around on the ground did not help him. He laid down and looked at the sky, "What's time now? Auntie Jun invited me for dinner. If I don't come, she will come for me."

Shen checked the time, it was still two, he had at least four hours or eight hours in the game before he had to log out.

"Wait a minute, what about the house? Maybe there's something that could help inside?" He immediately got up, he was about to return by walking but stopped midway.

Shen turned around and ran toward the river. He jumped into the river where the spearhead fish dwelled. Before he could reach the water, dozens of spearhead fishes leaped out from the river. It was obvious that Shen instantly died and respawned in the village.

Of course, he was not a masochist or addicted to dying. The reason was to reset his SP and Hunger. Also, it was way faster to go back as he had nothing to lose from death.

As soon as he returned to the village, Shen rushed toward Yosu's house. He looked around, the house was empty. A bed, a set of a table and chairs, a bedside cabinet, a lamp, and a statue.

If there was really something that could help him in this house, that thing should be inside the cabinet. Shen rushed toward the cabinet. It was a cabinet with two drawers.

He pulled the first one, but the drawer was empty. A visible crease formed on his forehead. He was getting nervous since the first drawer was empty. The second drawer was just another hope for Shen.

Taking a deep breath, he opened the second drawer, and it was empty as well. He was hoping to get something from this. Maybe he could find a miraculous potion that would boost one of his attributes or attack. If he had one, maybe he had a chance to kill the spearhead fish.

"What are you doing?" An old voice startled Shen. He jumped out and stuck his body to the wall. His extreme reaction startled Yosu as well.

"GAAAA!!!" Shen screamed but then he calmed down upon seeing Yosu. He caressed his chest, "You almost got me a heart attack!"

"You are still too young and healthy to get a heart attack," Yosu rolled his eyes at Shen who reacted exaggeratedly, "What are you doing?"

Hearing that, Shen plummeted to the ground weakly. He had been holding back his frustration for almost two days, and four days in the game. He finally had someone to talk with. On top of that, Yosu was an NPC. There was nothing to be embarrassed with since the NPC told no tales to the people in the real world.

Shen poured everything as if he had been wronged. The misery he had experienced for more than two days in the game.

Yosu shook his head, "Young man, you are trying to take a shortcut instead of training. I know people can get stronger by hunting the monster, but you need a foundation. That's the training, you can't skip this part if you want to be the fastest in the world!"
