Overlord: The Origin

Chapter 38

On a certain day in YGGDRASIL, a certain Limited, Super-Rare, Divine class item was released.

It's called, Shooting Star.

Shooting Star is a special rare, Gachapon Item. That means, it can only be obtained in store.

The description for this item is that, it's a simple-looking ring that has no kinds of decorations whatsoever. Engraved upon it are three shooting stars that emitted a silver light.

This super rare item allows the user to use the Super-tier spell [ Wish Upon a Star ] three times.

The Super-tier spell is imbued within the ring. Once used, the Ring/Spell will consume a percentage of the User's experience points to randomly generate an option for a wish.

The number of possible wishes that appeared would be proportional to the amount of consumed experience. This meant that activating the Ring/Spell in exchange for ten percent of the User's total experience points would present a single choice, whereas consuming fifty percent would give five possible choices.

There were quite a few wishes to choose from. According to a strategy Website's statistics, there were allegedly over two hundred of them. Additionally, there were some wishes which appeared more easily, and wishes which did not appear so easily, therefore it was horrifying magic where any carelessness could make the user waste a lot of experience.

Also, Magic Casters who wanted to learn this Super-Tier magic had to reach level 95 first. Even in YGGDRASIL where it was easy to level up, reaching this level would still require a considerable amount of experience, therefore people hesitated whether or not to gamble their experience points on such a spell.

The wishes one could make when casting [Wish Upon A Star] from the ring were randomly generated, much like the original spell. However, through this ring, one was more likely to get useful selections and fewer joke selections. From a certain point of view, one might say this ring was a better version of the original Super-tier spell which is learned.

For instance, by sacrificing five levels that amount to 500% of the user's experience points, one could grant even greater wishes. Also, the maximum amount of wishes which would appear was ten which the user can pick from, and the magic had no casting time.

In other words, when the user makes a wish, a smaller wish that consumes fewer levels or experience points were more likely to come true than a bigger one that requires more. However, if the wish failed, the experience would be burned and that would be the end of it.

But still, this item is undoubtedly the most powerful Cash Item so far. And right now, many Players in the whole YGGDRASIL are dying just to get this Item. But since this item can only get in the Gachapon, not all Players are so lucky enough to draw this item before their money runs out.

But unlike them, there's a certain Player in a certain place, that right now, keeps pressing the Gachapon roll button with no care about losing his money whatsoever.

Inside the Nazarick, Momonga was to be seen being gloomy in some secluded part of the Throne Room, while Peroroncino is behind him, tapping his back, as if to sympathize with him.

But as this is happening, Yuki suddenly entered the room with a boom, startling the two.

Yuki, who saw his two friends curling together in one corner, walks towards them and asks Peroroncino about the situation.

"... Well, you see—" Peroronchino then explained to Yuki what happened...

An hour earlier.

Momonga tried to draw at the Gachapon just to get the Item he was aiming for, the Shooting Star. Since he is a Magic Caster, this item is a must-to-get for him.

Ainz gambled his entire year-end bonus just to obtain it, and thankfully he did get it. But not until wasting almost all his money. But nevertheless, for him, it's all worth it.

But a couple of minutes after that, he saw that Yamaiko, one of his Guildmates, is about to draw in the Gachapon too, hoping to get the Shooting Star, just like him earlier.

"... Hey, you're trying to draw too Yamaiko-san?" Momonga walks toward her and asked the obvious.

"... Oh— Oh, yeah. You know, hehe~ just trying my luck." Yamaiko answered Momonga.

"... Well, good luck to you. I hope you manage to get it on your first try cause, it actually cost me a lot just to get this." Momonga says while flexing his newly acquired Shooting Star that's already equipped in his fingers.

"... Ooh, you actually managed to get it, that's so cool." Yamaiko said as she saw the ring on Momonga's Boney fingers.

Momonga feels somewhat flattered by this.

"... Alright, I'm going to do this. Wish me luck," Yamaiko said as she clasped both her hands for a second then slowly press the button on the Gachapon Screen.

"... Good luck." Momonga cheered for her.

*Tut!*

Yamaiko pressed the Gachapon button and it started to do its thing. Not long after that, from the Gachapon, a certain item had been picked out and got shown on her screen.

"... Wha—" Momonga, while also looking at her screen, suddenly paused. Like something got stuck in his throat.

"... Oooh! Look Momonga-san! I managed to get it on my first try! HAHA! I can't believe this!" Yamaiko said enthusiastically.

"Y— yeah, haha~ you really do..." Momonga said, though the tone of his voice sound weird compare to how it was a couple of seconds ago.

"... Huh? What happened to you?" Yamaiko said as she also noticed the sudden change of tone on Momonga's voice.

"... Ah, n— Nothing, haha. Well, I still have something to do so, please excuse me." Momonga said as he turns his back and walks away.

Yamaiko said no more as she just waved him goodbye.

"... I wonder what happened to him?" Yamaiko pondered to himself as he look at Momonga's back.

"— and that's what happened." Peroroncino finished explaining.

"... Pff— You mean, Momonga almost spend all his money just to get the Shooting Star while Yamaiko managed to get it on her first try? BWAHAHA." Yuki, laughed.

"... S— STOP LAUGHING. It's not funny!" Momonga said towards Yuki, sounding a bit annoyed.

" — hahaha... Sorry sorry. It's just too funny you kno— Haha." Yuki said to ease the annoyed Momonga, though he said it laughingly, which annoyed Momonga even more.

But seeing that Momonga is still sulking, Yuki decided to make him feel better, but this time, seriously, as he walks closer towards him.

"... Come on, it's alright. You know, I also tried to get that item, though I get it in the end, I too spent a lot of my money just to get it. See, you're not the one. I was also unlucky." Yuki said towards Momonga with a calm and sympathizing tone.

"... Really?" Momonga said as he is starting to feel a bit better due to what Yuki said just now.

Yuki, after hearing Momonga's response, nodded slowly with a smile as he slowly brought out his panel.

"... Yeah, I mean. Look at this, it took me a lot just to get all of this." Yuki's said as he open up his inventory and show it to Peroronchino and Momonga.

Shooting Star ( ×23 )

"... You see, I was actually planning to stop until I get 30 pieces of it, but I was so unlucky tha—"

[ The Player "Momonga" has Logged out ]

Yuki didn't manage to finish what he was saying as he saw Momonga suddenly log out from the game.

Peroroncino and Yuki looked towards each other.

"... *sigh* Do you need to do that?" [ 😑 ] Peroroncino asked.

"... What are you talking about? I did nothing." [ 🙄 ] Yuki shrugs and wash his hands clean.

"... Sadistic b*stard." Peroroncino said as Yuki avoided his piercing gaze.

"... Right, you said you found something good last night?" Yuki said, shifting the conversation like a pro.

"... F*ck— Yeah. I found some good ones last night. Let's go downstairs, I'll show it to you," Peroroncino said to Yuki with yet again, releasing another sigh before walking away.

"... A'ight then. Let's go." Yuki said as both of them hurriedly leaves the Throne Room.
