Reborn as a Goddess with a World Creation System

Chapter 23: A Pact at the Border of Life and Death

Ariana gazed at the desert before her, envisioning the possibilities for creating within that environment. The System, taking on the form of a fairy, watched her with curious eyes, eager to see what choices she would make.

She opened her divine interface and explored the available information:

[Name: Ariana]

[Goddess Rank: Beginner Goddess]

[Worlds: 1] [Arcadia]

[Followers: 109]

[Creation Points: 1780]

[Title: None]

[Purchase Interface]

[Small World: 5000 Creation Points] [1]

[Medium World: 10000 Creation Points]

[Large World: 17500 Creation Points]

[Fertile Soil: 100 Creation Points] [1]

[Creation of Living Being: 50 Creation Points]

[Mass Creation of Living Beings: 200 Creation Points] [New]

[Creation of Biomes: 250 Creation Points] [New]

Curiously, Ariana noticed something new in the interface and decided to question the System: "What is this 'Creation of Biomes' option?"

The System, as if expecting the question, promptly replied: "As the name suggests, 'Creation of Biomes' allows for the creation of specific ecosystems, enabling manipulation of the terrain and environment according to your imagination and desires."

Intrigued, Ariana continued, "But isn't this similar to the 'Terrain Manipulation' option?"

The System explained the distinction between the two options seriously: "No, 'Terrain Manipulation' is used to affect large stretches of land, such as reshaping the entire geography of an entire region on the planet. In your case, you used it to create a type of biome that can be replicated in various parts of Arcadia. In contrast, 'Creation of Biomes' allows you to create a smaller ecosystem fixed in a specific location."

Ariana, reflecting on the System's explanation, began to better understand the importance of the "Creation of Biomes" option. Still, an intriguing thought troubled her: "But I could create a biome on my own without your help, System. What would be the advantage of spending 250 creation points?"

The System, wisely, responded: "Yes, as a goddess, you have the power to create biomes, but as a beginner goddess, it's natural that you may lack the vision and understanding of a more experienced goddess. Everything may seem amazing and fun to you, but being a goddess doesn't make you omnipotent. While you can create a biome, there is a risk that it may disappear in a few years or that no living beings adapt to it. This is where the System comes into play to help, at a fair price. I offer support to create something that will not only endure unless destroyed but also house suitable life forms."

While Ariana was engrossed in her conversation with the System, in a distant place, a beautiful and majestic woman observed a grand staircase where various souls ascended into the unknown. Among all the souls, one, in particular, caught the attention of the Goddess of Death. It was a young man of around twenty, ascending the staircase with an emotionless, empty expression.

Aware that some souls were causing disturbances in the world of the living, the Goddess of Death smiled maliciously. In the blink of an eye, she was seated on her throne, and the young man materialized before her, clearly disoriented.

Tears began to flow down the young man's face as he stammered, "I'm dead, aren't I?"

A mysterious and imposing voice echoed, "Unfortunately, yes, and this is the world of the dead," declared the Goddess of Death, her expression remaining unchanged.

The visibly distraught young man continued, "My friends must be sad, my family too. I was reckless in facing those Shadows Wolves."

His sobs and tears resonated, recalling the terrible moments when the Shadow Wolves tore him apart from all sides. The terror of that episode still haunted his mind.

The Goddess of Death, maintaining her composure, explained, "You died three years ago. Your friends and family have already accepted your departure but still pay homage to your memory."

The young man's eyes fixed on the enigmatic figure of the Goddess of Death. The world of the dead? Reincarnation? That woman clearly was not an ordinary entity.

The Goddess of Death then made a surprising proposal: "I offer you a deal. You will not be reincarnated, but you will continue to exist. You will work for the world of the dead, possessing a physical and a spiritual body. However, you will be forbidden from interacting with other human beings."

The young man, now with his tears contained, gazed at the mysterious woman before him, her eyes cold and white. Despite his apprehension, he had nothing more to lose and made his decision.

"I accept! I will work on behalf of the world of the dead," declared the young man, determined to follow the new path that lay before him.

A faint smile broke through the emotionless expression on the face of the Goddess of Death. She rose and extended her hands, and in an instant, a beautiful sword materialized in her hands. It was a weapon of somber beauty, created from her own divine power.

"I, the Goddess of Death, grant you this sword. Use it to reap the souls of the wicked who still wander tormenting the world of the living and help them reach the world of the dead," she said solemnly.

The young man looked reverently at the divine figure handing him the sword, recognizing her as the supreme entity she was. A mix of emotions washed over him, from gratitude to profound reverence.

With respect, he accepted the sword, holding it firmly with both hands. As he did so, the kimono he was wearing magically transformed, revealing a stunning black and gold ensemble symbolizing his new responsibility.

[Sword Name: Ethernalith]

[Bearer: Ezekiel (Sword Linked to the Soul)]

[Power Level: 3 (Grows with the User)]

[Attack: 350]

[Sword Granted by the Goddess of Death]

[Abilities: [Lord of Death, Level ??]]

The Goddess of Death fixed her cold eyes on the young man, declaring, "Now, this will be your home." With a gesture of her hands, an empty space transformed into the view of an immense floating island. The landscape was entirely different from his association with the world of the dead. Lush vegetation covered the land, waterfalls and rivers snaked through the scenery, providing a serene and vivid sight.

Ezekiel, now the Bearer of the Ethernalith sword, observed the new world unfolding before him. With determination, he stood up and took a step forward, and a mysterious portal appeared, transporting him to Arcadia.

The young man found himself in a location near where he had lost his life. The night enveloped the landscape, and the wind whispered in his ears. He knew his old home was nearby, and despite the orders of the Goddess of Death not to interact with the living, he couldn't resist the desire to see his family.

In his spiritual form, he walked silently toward the village. As he approached, the lights from bonfires illuminated the small settlement, and he could glimpse the village as a whole from the nighttime sky. Silent tears rolled down his face as his gaze landed on a modest house.

That house, where he had lived with his parents and siblings, was a vivid reminder of his past. He watched the people moving about the village, feeling the longing and love for his family. He saw his brother and father returning to the house. The urge to run to them and hug them, telling them he was okay, that he was there, was overwhelming. However, he knew that his spiritual form could not be seen or heard by them.

Ezekiel contented himself with watching from a distance, thankful to the Goddess of Death for the opportunity to see them and confirm that they were well. He sensed a powerful energy enveloping the village, as if a magical shield protected it. He remembered Aurora, one of the village elders, who played the role of protector and healer.

Now, in his spiritual form, Ezekiel perceived things beyond mortal sight. Near the forest, he noticed the presence of the massive creature that had approached the village some time ago, an imposing presence guarding the surroundings. It was the spirit that Aurora had repelled in that village long ago. Ezekiel approached the creature, flying over and observing it closely. He understood that his new duty was to guide these souls to the world of the dead, offering them rest.

Slowly, he landed in front of the creature, which, now aware of his presence, turned its attention to the newcomer. All the eyes of the creature were fixed on Ezekiel, who drew his sword, ready for the confrontation.

The enormous tail of the creature lunged toward Ezekiel, but with skill, he cut it with a precise strike. The creature let out a cry and rushed toward Ezekiel at high speed. Ezekiel faced the challenge fearlessly, and with a single word, "Rest in peace," he wielded his sword firmly.

The sword strike split the creature in two, and a solemn silence filled the air. Ezekiel witnessed the body of the massive creature slowly fading, leaving only the small soul of a lion. It seemed tired and emitted a soft roar.

He approached the lion and caressed its head, and the soul of the animal looked at him. Slowly, the soul of the lion also began to disappear, carried away to the world of the dead. Ezekiel watched the scene with respect and, after the complete disappearance, he sighed, knowing he had fulfilled his duty of guiding that soul to eternal rest.
