Road Survival, I Have a Hint System!

Chapter 54: Buying at the Bottom

Looking at the materials in front of him, Zhang Tuohai felt immensely satisfied.

These items were incredibly useful for him.

Bulletproof glass and an armored car body were essential, no need to say more.

These things were lifesaving accessories.

Before participating in the rally, Zhang Tuohai hadn't paid much attention to vehicle defense.

But after the rally, especially after seeing those terrifying mutant desert spiders tear open the car roof like a can, Zhang Tuohai realized that vehicle defense had become a top priority. Otherwise, if he encountered another creature like those mutant spiders, it would be difficult to escape.

The appearance of bulletproof glass and the armored car body solved a significant problem for him. At the very least, if he faced such monsters again, he would have some defense.

As for the Dongpo Pork, there was even less to say. A famous dish from Jiangsu and Zhejiang, it's rich but not greasy, tender yet not falling apart, with thin skin and juicy meat. It's a must-try delicacy for any meat lover.

Zhang Tuohai had long heard of the fame of Dongpo Pork, but due to work, he never had the chance to go to the region to try the authentic version. Who would've thought he'd fulfill this dream in this world?

Fate truly works in mysterious ways.

As for that crate of 96-proof vodka, Zhang Tuohai directly classified it as disinfectant alcohol.

He couldn't believe anyone could actually drink that stuff.

After organizing the supplies, Zhang Tuohai began manufacturing the bulletproof glass and armored car body.

Two flashes of white light and the manufacturing materials disappeared.

“Detected that the vehicle already has a steel frame and light-dimming glass installed. You can choose to replace or merge.”

"Replace or merge? Can you explain the difference?" Zhang Tuohai asked.

"Replacing will swap the new part for the old one, while merging will combine the new and old parts, resulting in a fusion of their properties. Please choose according to your needs."

After hearing the explanation, Zhang Tuohai pondered.

The steel frame's main feature is strength, and so is the armored body. Since their enhancements are aligned, merging makes sense.

However, the enhancement directions of the bulletproof glass and light-dimming glass were different.

Bulletproof glass, obviously, provides strength, while light-dimming glass reduces light penetration and keeps the car cooler.

Since he already had air conditioning, he figured he didn't need the light-dimming glass anymore.

But then, Zhang Tuohai remembered the upcoming disaster in two days—Double Suns in the Sky—and felt uneasy.

"With two suns, the sunlight must be blinding, right?" Zhang Tuohai thought. Better to merge them. Extra protection is always good.

"Merge."

Two flashes of white light, and the new and old components fused together.

The glass didn't look much different, just a bit thicker.

The car doors, however, became noticeably heavier. Zhang Tuohai pushed and pulled them, finding they were made entirely of high-strength material.

Zhang Tuohai fired two shots at the door.

Even the 12-gauge shotgun didn't leave a mark on it.

"Not bad, not bad," Zhang Tuohai happily patted the door. Now, even if others had guns, he wouldn't be afraid.

After finishing the armored car, Zhang Tuohai took stock of his gains for the day.

Today’s rally had netted him five orange supply crates, one purple supply crate, and the sale of over a hundred weapons.

He’d gotten one car air conditioner, six pots of fast-growing mushrooms, a solar charging panel, the armored car body, a Xiao Ai smart assistant, and various Tier 1 and Tier 2 materials.

It was a huge haul.

"Great haul today, let’s have something good to eat," Zhang Tuohai said. He cooked up a pot of noodles, using Dongpo Pork, braised meat, and dehydrated vegetables as the toppings. For Su Mu and Su Qi, he added some braised meat chunks as well.

As he enjoyed the Dongpo Pork, Zhang Tuohai opened the regional chat to see what people were discussing.

It had become a daily routine for him.

He glanced at the number of people left in the region—only 1,532 remained.

He recalled that when he set out in the morning, there were still 2,325. In other words, nearly 800 people had died in today’s competition.

Seeing the survival numbers, Zhang Tuohai sighed, wondering how many of the remaining people could survive the disaster in two days.

"Fewer sheep to shear," he muttered, browsing the chat logs.

Although many had died in the competition today, those who survived had gained a lot.

Everyone was showing off their loot.

“Haha, I got a huge pile of silver cutlery! Anyone want some? Start trading at 10 units of resources.”

“Useless junk! What good is silverware without food? I got a ham today! And not just any ham, a whole pork leg! Picture, picture, picture!”

“Pfft, what good is ham if you can’t eat it? Do you have a knife? A pot? I got a whole crate of beef cans, ready to eat. How about I trade two cans for your ham?”

“Screw off!”

“Selling a boning knife, message me if interested.”

“I got some fabric, anyone need fabric? Will trade for food.”

“Get lost, I’ve got tons of fabric. Bulk buyers get a discount.”

“I’ve got lots of wood! Anyone want to buy wood? I’ll sell cheap: 500 ml of water for 20 units, big discount.”

“I’ll sell mine for 300 ml for 20 units.”

Zhang Tuohai scrolled through the chat and noticed that while a few had scored big, most had only gotten common materials like wood and fabric.

With so many people gathering these materials and not enough buyers, prices plummeted. Many players were undercutting each other just to trade their materials for food and water.

While eating his Dongpo Pork, Zhang Tuohai thought this might be a good chance to stockpile materials.

He had plenty of food, so even if he didn’t need the materials now, he might need them in the future.

Plus, he felt these materials could come in handy.

The fabric could be used to make sun-protective and stab-resistant clothing, which could sell well in a few days.

Wood was a great fuel source. He’d been cooking and barbecuing a lot lately, and the wood consumption was significant.

With this in mind, Zhang Tuohai posted a trade offer in the trade channel.

"Out of humanitarian concern, I am buying fabric and wood. 200 ml of water or one portion of pork cracklings for 20 units. Offer valid for 30 minutes."
