Chapter 40: Sakim VS The Ghost Fires

But of course, it was not like Sakim wanted to kill the Ghost Fire in front of him in the most domineering way. It wasn't for without reason that he let out the huge ax. This time, he wanted to have a feel with this new weapon of his and see if it suited him well.

But from the looks of it, this ax was just way too big for Sakim. He couldn't even completely grasp its handle with one of his hands as he needed to use his two hands to hold it better. What even worse was that when the ax came out, it immediately landed on the ground as Sakim found it impossible to lift anymore.

"What the... This thing is too heavy," Sakim gritted his teeth. Even with his veins popping out all over his body and even when he began to sweat, he just couldn't lift the ax. It couldn't even budge even a little. So how could he use this weapon now?

On other hand, seeing the troubled Sakim, the Ghost Fire found an opportunity to escape. It hurriedly ran away in the opposite direction afraid to die if it stayed there even for a moment.

"Hey, wait!" Sakim called out. But the Ghost Fire was already far away. Helpless, he shifted back his attention towards his ax as he tried to lift it again only to fail.

Sakim then frowned. This ax was really too heavy. Perhaps, he should just use this ax at the other time when he was ready for it?

So knowing that it was useless for him to use this weapon with his current strength, Sakim threw it back to his Stolen Inventory.

The huge ax then vanished leaving only the crack on the ground where it landed. It was just really a shame that he wasn't able to use it. Perhaps, his Strength stat was still lacking, right?

With that in mind, Sakim looked for the stats of that ax to see why he couldn't lift it. Although he had already guessed that it was probably because of his Strength stat for being too low, Sakim wanted to know how much he was lacking.

And just like that, the System appeared again revealing the stats of the ax.

[Big Axe]

Level: 1

Attack: +500

Attack Speed: -120

Hit: -1%

+ Knockback: 80% Chance.

When he saw it, Sakim had immediately frowned. The +500 attack damage was really beyond his expectation but, what the hell was with these Attack Speed and Hit? Negative? Wasn't the minus stat way too big?

-120 Attack Speed and -1% Hit chance... Sakim calculated how many stat points were this Attack Speed and Hit could be when converted. But when he finished calculating he couldn't help but deepen his frown.

As for now, all of his stats other than Vitality had 9 points. And this Attack Speed and Hit were the attributes of the Perception stat. And since he had 9 Perception stat, it could be said that he only had 90 Attack Speed and 0.9% Hit.

And now, if he used the [Big Axe], his Attack Speed would be reduced by 120 while on the other hand, his Hit chance would be reduced by 1%. As a result, he would have negative stats. Just what in the world was this?

If his Attack Speed was negative, then how could he start attacking in the first place? No wonder why he couldn't lift the [Big Axe], it appeared that his Strength stat wasn't the culprit, but his Perception stat.

Sakim knew that if there was something he wanted to do, and even though it was still within his capability, once he perceived it as impossible, he would only find it impossible to do even though he could.

And according to the studies in his past life, the human body and strength were suppressed by the brain. And when there was enough adrenaline, only then it could be unlocked. So perhaps, the same thing could be applied for this Perception stat. Since this stat was limiting his true capability like lifting the ax, he wasn't able to do it since he perceived it as impossible.

Sakim could only nod in realization when he thought about it. And with that, he only intended to level up quickly so that he could use his new weapon already.

With that in mind, Sakim then swept his gaze in his surroundings. He found many Ghost Fires floating here and there. And with a menacing gaze, Sakim rushed to the crowds of Ghost Fires to do his massacre while he was on his way to the beginner's village. Perhaps, he could increase his stolen HP while he was on the way to the beginner's village, right?

So then, Sakim touched one of the Ghost Fires. It didn't even have the chance to learn the threat that befell it as it suddenly found itself turning into ashes.

After that certain Ghost Fire met its end, Sakim didn't stop with just that. He shifted his attention to the other Ghost Fires in the area as he stole the life of every single Ghost Fires where his hand could reach.

Every single touched he made could only result in death for the Ghost Fires. Sakim didn't even need the slightest killing intent to kill them as if he was just slapping a mosquito.

So as Sakim continued his way at the certain route he took, and as he slaughtered every Ghost Fires obstructing his way, it didn't take long for the other Ghost Fires to notice that something was amiss. All of the Ghost Fires in the area then suddenly turned their attention to their surroundings as they found a certain human who kept slaughtering their brothers mercilessly.

Presumptuous! The many Ghost Fires that found the evil deeds of that human were furious. And there was only one thought that was floating on their mind. That was to kill this human.

That said, their aggro was immediately stolen by Sakim. All the Ghost Fires who saw him then rushed at him furiously. As a result, the area near Sakim became filled with light. It was as if countless balls of fire were gathering to him all at once.

Sakim remained nonchalant though. After killing some of these Ghost Fires for some time, and after facing some of them that retaliated before their death, Sakim learned that there was only one kind of attack that this Ghost Fire knew. And that was to tackle and pound him with their body.

Since that was the case, it wasn't hard for Sakim to make physical contact with them. It could be said that these Ghost Fires were just digging their own grave. And there was nothing more delighting other than this. Sakim could only smile a little thinking about it as he could see how it appeased his disappointment after learning the limitation of his passive skill: Greed.

So after a few more moments, some of the many Ghost Fires in the area that rushed at him finally reached their distance with him. In their mind, they were as if deadly meteors that fell from the heavens and were ready to crash Sakim at any moment.

However, their imaginations betrayed them the moment they made physical contact with Sakim. With the lots of them, and with the little Fire Energy they used while attacking, the Ghost Fires thought that the other party would finally turn into ashes as they could finally avenge their brothers that died at the hands of the other party. Who would have thought that instead of Sakim, it was them that turned into ashes right after they made physical contact with the other party. And it was already too late for them to regret their action for they were already dead.

The other Ghost Fires seemed unfazed though. Seeing the fall of their brothers, the rage in their hearts was ignited even more as they continued their way to Sakim to finally deliver his doom. But contrary to their expectation, it was they who met their doom as they only found themselves turning into ashes while splattering on the ground.

Since they already lost everything (their brothers), the other Ghost Fires that were left became fearless. So even after knowing that there was no hope, they stubbornly rushed at Sakim to avenge their brothers.

The surroundings then turned dimmer and dimmer until finally, the last Ghost Fire in the area faded with a shriek.
