Summoned to defeat the demons? No way! I’d rather do something else.(A dungeon master/Tower defense/ Civilization building story)

After eating my lunch with Minna inside my room, I decided to continue checking my skills.

 

I took a look at the system switch option I just unlocked.

 

"Hey system, how does system switch work?"

 

"Master. System switch changes how the system works. Currently, the system works as personal mode. The available modes right now are personal mode, defense mode and production mode."

 

"hmmm. Please explain each of them."

 

"Master. Personal mode makes the system work directly close to the dungeon master. This allows the system to follow all orders directly in any forms. Defense mode allows the system to shift all it's attention into securing the protection and defense of the dungeon. As of right now, the dungeon surveillance outside only occupies 100 meters around the dungeon. While in defense mode, the range expands to 1 km around the dungeon and allows the system to use all the available dungeon building to face the enemy. Production mode shifts the system attention to overclocking the production buildings inside the dungeon doubling their efficiency. However, using defense mode and production mode disables the system direct communication to the dungeon master and can only accept none complex orders."

 

So basically... personal mode is how the system works currently. Defense mode allows the dungeon to use all of it's currently available arsenal to protect itself while production doubles the efficiency.

 

"Personal mode looks great to be honest since it makes my life easier but since we are growing in numbers, I guess defense mode works more appropriate here."

 

While deciding what to choose I realized something.

 

"Hey system. Does choosing what system mode to use comes with a cooldown? Or I can just keep on switching anytime I want?"

 

"Master. System switch comes with 10 day cooldown as the dungeon core can't switch freely or it may become volatile."

 

"volatile? what do you mean?"

 

"master. as explained before, dungeon core are the combination of multiple consciousness mixed together. Switching focus left and right might look simple but for multiple person to keep switching focus can become troublesome."

 

"I see. So it worls like that... Anyways I have decided. switch the system to defensive mode."

 

"Affirmative. Warning. Once the process is complete, the system can no longer interact as usual to the dungeon master. Proceed?"

 

That's a loss but my place defense are better for now since we are still on our 12th day and it won't surprise me if we start receiving attacks now.

 

"Yes."

"Good. to test something. Hey system."

 

I waited for few minutes but no response came.

 

"Hmmm then how about this. Hey dungeon please make a bread."

 

After waiting again for a minute, a bread appeared on the small table beside my bed.

 

"I see. the time increased but it can still make a bread."

 As I am testing some stuff, a panel appeared.

 

"HAH?!?"

 

I ran out the room quickly and saw Lyca1 talking to Minna just outside near my bedroom.

 

"Perfect timing. Lyca1 and Minna come in!"

 

I called the two.

 

Lyca1 looked surprised so is Minna but they followed along quickly.

 

"Hey. I just arrived." Lyca1 said before letting her bum get swallowed by the soft bed.

 

"Yeah. Welcome back. Anyways, I will ask you later. We have something first."

 

I said sitting beside Lyca1 and urging Minna to sit on her bed.

 

"Just now. The dungeon detected multiple entity entering the 1 kilometer radius around the dungeon."

 

Minna's eyes widened as she look at me feeling scared.

 

"Are they... the duke's..." She looked at me.

 

"I am not sure yet. Wait..."

 

I said before looking back at the panel still floating above my head.

 

"It says, 20 elves here. Genders... 14 female 6 male. No weapons and minimal clothing." 

 

I read the detailed report on the panel. Apparently, the dungeon surveillance also records the appearance.

 

(Do this dungeon also detect hidden items in inventory?)

 

I have no idea yet and since I can't ask the dungeon now, I just have to trust the report. And if something happens, the dungeon is currently in defensive mode which is perfect.

 

"So uh... Stray? Lost? Wanderers?" Lyca1 asked.

 

"Probably along those lines. I can't see any image here only detailed description which I already read out loud."

 

Honestly this is worrying. So far, they will be the first multiple encounter.

 

"Wait. Miss Lyca. You said entering the 1 kilometer radius right? doesn't that mean it's possible they are just entering? I mean not going here directly?"

 

"Oh."

 

"Oh."

 

Me and Lyca1 said the same thing.

 

We looked at each other before laughing.

 

(We really are the same) 

I said with a sigh.

 

"Yes. That's possible. But the question just expanded. What to do with them?"

 

Lyca1 and Minna thinks.

 

"I think it's dangerous. I am not sure if you are aware miss Lyca but elves are known for their skill in magic. They are one of the most wanted in the kingdom. Also female elves are well sought slaves because of their beauty and magic skills. They can serve as bed warmer and battle mage."

 

"Well... I forgot this world is a human supremacy kind of world." I whispered to myself making Lyca1 nod in agreement.

 

"Doesn't that mean, they will become hostile if they saw me? or You?" I asked Minna.

 

"I think not. They might be alarmed at first. But if they learn you are a dungeon master, they will consider you as an ally in fact. since Dungeons can be a great hiding place for non humans. And Kingdoms are also treating dungeons as a training grounds for new knights since they know it's a monster infested place."

 

"So it's like that..."

 

I ponder my choices.

 

To be honest. I want to get them. I mean as a modern worlder. Elves are always a great fantasy creature. At least in our standards. No fantasy genre exists without elves.

 

But in this world, Humans reign supreme. All non humans are prosecuted and forced to go into hiding. Humans even managed to conquer 2/3 of the land. The only place left unconquered is the demon island which is a large land mass separated by the ocean.

 

By the way, I learned this thanks to Minna's vague description and Dungeons help before around 10th day.

 

My dungeon location is near the coast which is a forest. With this dungeon the only mountain looking place inside the said forest.

 

Do that makes this place near the demons which made me look at Minna. She ran away till she reached this place despite knowing demons or non humans might be crawling the area.

 

Anyways, going back to the choices.

 

Accepting the elves can be a great addition.

 

But are they even going here in the first place?

 

And that is also taking for granted that they are non hostile.

 

For now I made up my mind.

 

I look at Lyca1 and gave her a nod.

 

It looks like she already knew my decision.

 

"Let's take them in."
