Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Mysterious Abilities (These next few days are crucial, please keep following)

“Mutation.” Wei Wufu said as he leapt up from his mount, bringing his Alloy Blade down on the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast with the force of thunder.

Lin Shen didn’t stop him but kept the barrel of his gun firmly aimed at the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast.

It was clear that the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast was a mutated Alloy, and just like any Alloy, Wei Wufu had the strength to fight this mutant, which Lin Shen wasn’t worried about.

What Lin Shen worried about was why a mutated Mushroom Beast would appear here since this wasn’t the way to the Blue Tree Sea. Besides it, were there other Mushroom Beasts nearby?

His gaze swept around, but for the time being, he didn’t spot any other Mushroom Beast’s presence.

Wei Wufu’s blade had already reached the top of the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s head. Surprisingly agile given its plump body, the Mushroom Beast pushed off the ground with its stubby little legs and astonishingly dodged the lightning-fast strike from Wei Wufu.

At the same time, it twisted its body, and its round tail lashed toward Wei Wufu’s waist.

This was an attack method unique to Base Variant Creatures, something humans couldn’t employ due to innate limitations.

Mutators accustomed to fighting humans could easily suffer a major setback when facing such Base Variant Creatures.

Clearly, Wei Wufu was an experienced Mutator in battle. The moment the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast swung its tail, Wei Wufu rapidly shifted his position, turning with it, and sliced once more at the Mushroom Beast’s neck.

The Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s turning speed couldn’t surpass Wei Wufu’s movement. The tail that swung fiercely was always a distance from Wei Wufu. But Wei Wufu’s blade was about to cut into the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s neck.

“Beautiful movement technique, beautiful blade technique,” Lin Shen couldn’t help but exclaim.

When Wei Wufu taught him blade technique, he had told Lin Shen that movement technique and blade technique went hand in hand. Without a good movement technique, one cannot master the blade technique; focusing solely on blade technique without movement is futile.

Unfortunately, Lin Shen’s talent in close combat was just average. Despite training with Wei Wufu for so long, he had only managed to learn the merest rudiments.

Just when Lin Shen thought Wei Wufu was about to succeed, whether it was an illusion or not, Lin Shen thought he saw a cunning light in the eyes of the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast, its face seemingly saying: “You’ve been tricked.”

The next second, the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s twisting motion suddenly halted, facing Wei Wufu head-on. Its chubby paws shot up and astonishingly caught the descending Alloy Blade.

Then with a twist of its paws, the Alloy Blade snapped in two with a click.

Without hesitation, the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast leaped into the air, its fat hind legs delivering a barrage of kicks at Wei Wufu in mid-air.

“Fuck, this Mushroom Beast actually knows kung fu!” Lin Shen’s eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets as the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s flurry of movements made his scalp tingle.

Wei Wufu discarded the hilt of his broken blade and continuously parried with his arms, clashing with the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s metallic fat legs and creating a series of metallic clanging sounds.

With each collision, Wei Wufu took a step back, evidently the strength in his arms was not quite a match for the strength in the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s legs.

The strength of both the man and the beast was at the pinnacle of the Alloy Level, probably not much different from each other.

However, having a certain amount of strength doesn’t mean one can always exert that level of force. In fact, in actual combat, having a strength of 20 means the limit is 20. One typically can exert only about ten to a dozen in strength, unless they are trained, use a specific method of exerting force, and are prepared in advance; otherwise, it’s difficult to exert the full strength of 20.

Even for someone like Wei Wufu, with top-notch combat skills and exerting techniques, he could only utilize about seventy percent of his strength amid the fast-paced battle.

After the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast landed, it swiftly sprawled and flicked its tail like a sweeping leg, a technique from human combat skills, thrashing its tail swiftly towards Wei Wufu’s legs, causing Lin Shen to be incredibly nervous.

The attack patterns of the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast flowed seamlessly, making Lin Shen feel rather disheartened.

His own combat skills were not even as good as those of a Base Variant Creature. If he were in the fight, even if his strength and speed were not much different, he would probably have already been knocked down by the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast.

Wei Wufu seemed like a battle machine devoid of emotions, no matter what surprising attacks the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast used, none could elicit even the slightest change in his expression.

Just as the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast jumped into the air and made a slight error, Wei Wufu dove under it, grabbed its tail, and with a powerful shoulder throw, slammed it heavily onto the ground.

The pupils of the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast contracted, and in the next second, it became enraged to the extreme, its legs desperately kicking toward Wei Wufu.

The moment Wei Wufu let go and stepped back, the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast managed to stand up with a carp flip, then leaped back, putting some distance between itself and Wei Wufu.

The Black-Capped Mushroom Beast, with its large black gem-like eyes, stared fixedly at Wei Wufu, its body trembling uncontrollably with extreme fury.

As Wei Wufu charged at it once more, he suddenly noticed the mushroom cap on the head of the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast light up like a bulb, emitting a hazy white light.

This discovery made Wei Wufu stop in his tracks, observing the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast closely.

Although Wei Wufu’s name was Wufu, he was no foolhardy man. Where there’s something abnormal, there must be a demon. He was observing.

Yet the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast didn’t give him time to observe, as it charged directly at him with the mushroom cap leading the assault.

Being extremely cautious, Wei Wufu didn’t punch at its head but quickly sidestepped, avoiding the impact of the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s charge.

The Black-Capped Mushroom Beast suddenly halted, its body dropping sharply, followed by a fierce tail swipe aimed at Wei Wufu’s waist.

Everything happened too fast and Wei Wufu couldn’t dodge in time, only able to lift a leg to block the incoming tail with his shin.

Clang!

The sound of metal striking echoed through the forest; Wei Wufu stumbled back two steps, shocked to find that the alloy carapace where his shin had made contact with the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast was rapidly receding.

Wei Wufu was still using his Base Mutation powers, his Alloy Body hadn’t been dismissed, yet the metallic carapace on his shin pulled back, unable to form the protective Alloy Carapace around his body once more.

It receded, not shattered or fallen off, the area on his shin appeared as though it had a natural defect where the metal had once been.

The Black-Capped Mushroom Beast continued its relentless attacks without pause, and Wei Wufu evaded when he could or otherwise braced himself for a hard block.

Strangely, wherever his body came in contact with the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast, the metallic carapace would vanish without a trace, impossible to summon back again.

“What kind of power is that?” Lin Shen wondered, realizing he couldn’t just watch the battle any longer. He aimed at the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast and pulled the trigger.

The Pet Capsule, transformed from a Black Armored Bee, shot out like a bullet, hitting the white light-emitting mushroom cap of the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast with incredible speed.

Clang!

In mid-air, the Black Armored Bee, already in combat form, with its tail forward and head back, and speed surpassing that of Crystal Base, its sting harshly struck the bulb-like mushroom cap.

Lin Shen surmised that this was the key to the Black-Capped Mushroom Beast’s miraculous powers. If he could destroy its mushroom cap, perhaps that would break its mysterious ability.
