NOVEL SIMPLE Ch 70. Our Future Selves
When we were talking about what to do next, the unthinkable happened. Everyone but Phlum started eating what was on the table. I can't say that I don't understand why they did that, I mean, we haven been struggling for quite a long time and even if we wanted, we couldn't afford to have a proper meal, so it's understandable that everyone would be craving for food. However, it clearly was a trap, even a kid could have known that.
Phlum and I wait, ready for what will happen next, however, nothing happens. Even if it was a somehow slow poison, our group is built by different kinds of Demons, there's no way nothing will happen, even more, if everyone has still been eating anything they can.
Suddenly, Phlum put what I was thinking into words
“Maybe it's safe…?”
“Maybe… At least, it looks like it.”
“You should eat too, my Lady.”
“Don't call me like that, I don't like it, you know?”
“Of course I know, however, you are our leader, and as our leader, you must be addressed like that.”
“Geez… Do as you please.”
I walked towards the table and grabbed a piece of bread. It was soft and crunchy at the same time and I could feel a little bit of warmth as I touched it with my fingers, it was clear that it had been recently made.
As I was pondering if I should really eat it, Phlum approached me and grabbed a leg of roasted chicken that was on the table. I wanted to say something, but I resisted. She seemed to notice and asked with her mouth full of food.
“Uhmm?”
“I-Its nothing…”
I took a mouthful of the bread that was on my hand and right when I swallowed it, I felt a weird sensation on my chest. The bread fell off my hand that was feeling strangely weak just as my legs.
I looked around, and I saw Phlum who had fallen on her knees suffering right by my side. Before I could do or say something, her body changed into the one of a grown Harpy. However, I noticed something weird in one of her hands. From her elbow to the tip of her fingers it had turned into something that looked strangely Dragon-like.
I couldn't think too much about it, because at the same time, my body also started to change. Sooner than later, my body had also turned into the one of a beautiful and strong woman. No, it was more than that, it looked as if I was some kind of Demon Lord.
Everyone around looked puzzled and surprised due to the change of our bodies and started to cheer as if everyone of our problems had suddenly been solved.
“Whats do you think this mean, Phlum?”
“I-I don't know…”
“Our Lady is amazing! She looks extremely powerful!”
“Maybe she could break that door? No, I'm sure she can!”
“But, why are those two the only ones who changed…?”
“Maybe it's because they are really powerful.”
“Such a simple answer…”
Everyone started talking and theorizing about what just happened, but in the end, there was no way to know the truth.
Of course, I was also thinking about possible ways to explain our current situation, but it seemed like our best chance to know what just happened was to find the one that brought us here in the first place.
Sudleny, Afallen called out to me.
“My Lady, you look really gorgeous like that, but…”
“But…?”
It seemed that he was worried about something. It was just a chance, but if we were thinking the same, there was no way to say it out loud without worrying everyone else.
“It's just a theory, but… If by any chance, that is how you two will look in the future, does that mean that…?”
“Don't worry about that, I’ll take care of everyone, you know that, right?”
“Of course I know!”
“Then don't you worry about this, maybe it is something else.”
But even if it was just a theory, the idea of something happening to everyone else, is something I can't endure. Well, it is just a theory, there's no proof of anything yet. However, even if it's just a theory, I need to be extremely careful, afterall, I’m the one in charge of everyone’s safety.
Sadly, at that time I was just a child, and no matter how hard a mere child tries to do something, there are things that are just impossible for them.
