"Listen, just give him a chance, Ben," Gwen pleaded with her cousin.

"What do you mean? He’s been ignoring me this whole time and does whatever he wants! If you ask me, I think he wants to be left alone. Just because he’s gotten a little stronger doesn’t mean he can act however he wants!" Ben complained as he sipped his drink, sitting at a table across from Gwen outside a store.

"I get it. But you know he came from the Null Void on his own. You can at least try to understand how rough it was for him," Gwen added.

"Yeah? He deserved to go to the Null Void, Gwen! Did you forget what happened? So, you saw him, huh? No wonder." Ben sipped his drink again.

"Yes. He asked me to. He needed to be understood," Gwen said softly.

"Eh… is that why your hair is down more often? Not bad, I guess," Ben said after taking a quick glance at her, which prompted Gwen to fiddle with her hair nervously.

"Is it bad? Forget it," Gwen stopped herself before she sounded giddy in front of her cousin.

"Anyway. We do need him to find Grandpa. I don’t like his methods or way of doing things. But he’s more resourceful now. And thanks for the smoothie." Ben concluded and went inside the eatery to get himself a burger.

Meanwhile, Kevin drove Kate in his new ride. The interior looked nothing like a Challenger. It was too futuristic-looking, and Kate couldn’t help but wonder how much Kevin had spent on customising it.

No wonder Giovanni wanted us to take care of this customer. He is probably linked to them,’ Kate thought and directed Kevin.

Soon they arrived at a housing estate featuring different types of buildings, a nearby gym, a large park, busy coffee shops, and couples jogging about. The overall vibe of the area felt nice, and Kevin nodded to himself.

Kate and Kevin entered some buildings, took elevators, and explored different penthouses.

Kevin eventually picked one that had amazing lighting, amazing rooftop aesthetics, and quality service.

Kate and Kevin haggled with the agent for that penthouse a lot until they both agreed on seven million dollars.

Kevin wanted to pay with a card but was not approved by the agent until she saw his black card, and she arranged payment options for his card.

He also requested a car and a moving company to follow him, which the agent arranged immediately.

Kevin dropped Kate off at the hotel and left for home with an escort car and a large moving truck.

Parking his car in front of his mother’s house, Kevin requested that the moving guys wait a moment for him, which they all agreed to.

Kevin walked to the door of his home.

With a deep sigh, he knocked on the door.

"Can I help you? Oh… Are you actually Kevin?" Harvey answered the door immediately and stared at the young man who towered over him at the door. He opened the door with the chain still on, but that was enough to study the person in front of him.

"Yes," Kevin rolled his eyes.

"That checks out. Honey, it’s actually him!" Harvey closed the door, undid the chain, and opened the door again.

"Where have you been? We were wondering why a model pulled up in front of our house with that nice car and… a moving truck?" Kevin’s mum hugged her son, taking in the expensive cologne on his body.

"Who did you steal from? Are we supposed to run now? Is that why you brought the moving truck with you?" Kevin’s mum asked with a straight face while holding her son.

"No, Mum. Let’s go inside," Kevin said.

His mother looked worried for a second and let her son in.

Harvey and Kevin’s mum sat opposite Kevin, their hearts beating madly as they waited for the news their delinquent son had to give them. Hopefully, he wasn’t given a scholarship in the military to study physics or something.

"Haha. Why are you guys so worried?" Kevin joked, but his parents weren’t having it and could only force smiles at that point.

"Agh. Fine. Mum, I have recently acquired wealth," Kevin stated, and his parents’ fears were confirmed. Not the military physics fear, but the one of him stealing.

"Relax! I came across some people who were willing to give me a lot of money because I found some alien rocks or crystals. The government was very eager to take it from my hands and felt bad they couldn’t even give me more than just money, and I happily accepted," Kevin said with his glasses on.

"Listen, Kevin. I know you want to write things off as calm, but… are you sure? Are you sure you are telling us everything?" Kevin's mum asked as her face softened.

Kevin’s heart kicked a little. He didn’t want to lie to his mum.

"Okay. You know how the government is. They are not always honest all the time…" Kevin started as he gauged the reaction on his mother’s face.

"I tried selling them those crystals… but they got greedy and thought of… kidnapping me, if you will," Kevin continued as his mum’s face hardened. She squeezed her thighs with her hands, and her eyes showed something Harvey hadn’t seen since he married her and became Kevin's stepdad. It was as if something threatened her, but she wasn’t scared, only annoyed that something even tried to do it.

"So I had to get out of there with my pay. I could have killed them for attempting that after I came in with an honest deal, but I decided against my better judgement," Kevin finished, his eyebrows furrowed and his eyes showing how firm he was in his previous thoughts of killing those who tried to cross him.

Is this really the Kevin I know? I have known him to be able to handle himself because of his mutant powers, but his presence isn’t normal. It's like being in front of someone I can’t even see as a child that needs scolding. He has the air of authority around him,’ Harvey thought, and even Kevin's mum felt the same, but she eventually spoke soon after.

"How are you sure they won’t come for you again?" Kevin's mum asked.

"That’s one of the reasons I am moving you guys. I love you, Mum, and I won’t let anything happen to you, even if I can’t help it. They won’t be able to even track me, and if they do…" Kevin said as he took off his glasses.

"…Don’t kill them. The government can be jerks at times. But some of those people have families that depend on them," Kevin's mum pleaded.

After a moment of silence, Kevin answered.

"I will tell you what happened to me before all this anyway. It’s nothing that would worry you. But like you said, they have families… well, so do I. But don’t worry, Mum. They are really none of my concern. Now come, let’s get you to your new house. I am sure you will like it!"
