Chapter 255: Mortal Gods

Note: To avoid lengthy introductions of the gods. I would just name them according to their powers.

"Oh hey you're back." Pier mentioned as he felt his elven servant getting near. He took a quick glance at this person and saw that he was perfectly fine.

"I assume that our dear Monarch has been dealt with?" Pier continued as Glade stood right behind him.

"Yes master. But that move is out of the question now." The elf mentioned. Referring to the trick he used to bring back all his body parts while also escaping the same wave of [Chaos] that drowned Vask.

"It's fine. Things are still smooth sailing at this point and all we need to worry about is that gamer kid and his allies."

"But master won't we be in trouble if he is actually capable of stopping you?"

"You know I also thought about that but then I realized something." Pier looked at the screen and how the entirety of Mythos looked a lot different from when he started.

At first there was only the even distribution of Chaos on all four continents. But that time around, there was simply a large wave of Darkness making its way to Elysium. Pier looked at this sight like it was the most beautiful thing he ever laid his eyes on.

"If he was someone who could stop me at every point and turn, he would've done that immediately. Sure he was able to clear out all the [Chaos] within Helios in a matter of two days. Yet even in doing so, he still took time. He was fast of course, but still susceptible to the rules of time."

"Meaning…what exactly master?"

"Meaning, my dear Glade, he isn't someone who can do these things in just the snap of his finger. There is a process to it and, I'm betting on the possibility that he can't handle this much [Chaos] with the said method. He is still mortal after all. And just like every mortal, he has his limitations and weaknesses."

Pier was finally back to his calm and lax demeanor. There was nothing to worry about because even though the thing he summoned was still incomplete, it would still be enough for the task at hand. Namely, luring in the gods.

"We'd have plenty of visitors soon enough Glade. You better rest that body of yours if you want to be of any use." Pier continued as he sipped from the wine on his glass.

The minor gods who had their heroes killed descended upon Mythos immediately after the conditions were set by the main deities. The fake Nisha even added the condition that, the gods would be able to see through the eyes of those who would descend. Allowing them to finally take a good look at what was happening.

Pier looked at this through his monitor. He watched how the gods and goddesses were within the same area where his [Chaos] was located. This was not how Pier wanted things to go actually. he wanted to kill all 100 heroes first but, because of Zeke's interference and Vask closing in, he had no choice but to make do with what he had.

"I shall be taking my leave now master." Glade suddenly said, interrupting Pier's train of thought.

"Oh yeah. You go and do that." He said in reply. Finishing his drink as he stood up and stretched his body.

"Are you going anywhere master?"

"Actually I wanted to just stay here but seeing all of them grouped up like that isn't something I can pass out on."

"Master you're not thinking of actually fighting them are you?"

"Of course not Glade. I'll just put a dab of my skills into the mix to make the fight more interesting." He furthered, putting on a cloak with his favored daggers on both hands.

Pier's plans were nothing near small scale. It was the grandest there ever was and, in fact, probably the grandest there would ever be. From the moment he was created up until that point, there was nothing on his mind but the thought of becoming the one true god.

Always one step ahead. Planning from the shadows. Watching as the gears slowly moved as he slithered his way through all chaos and catastrophe. This was what made him different from most of the gods. That is, except for Yaeger; a goddess who was hailed as the queen of the battlefield on her mortal days. One who knew what it was like to be mortal and who also never forgot this side of her.

Yet that same goddess was not part of Pier's current enemies which made it easier for him. After all, the gods didn't know of all this. All that was on their mind was the absolute victory assured by their numbers and their powers. But this assumption will prove to be their downfall as they gazed upon [Chaos].

"Dear lord…what in the name of all the heavens is that?" The goddess of lightning commented as soon as she saw the enormous mass of [Chaos]. It has already enveloped half of the sea; expanding steadily with each passing second.

"Same question but one thing is sure. That's what killed our heroes." The god of frost created an ultimate level spell. Encasing almost half of the [Chaos] in ice.

"Why didn't you just cover it entirely?" Lightning asked as she looked at Frost. But even this same god had disbelief written all over his face.

"Hey we still have our powers right? I definitely intended to freeze it entirely."

Even before they could arrive at any answer, [Chaos] already broke free from the freezing. Apart from this, Frost also began coughing out blood as he felt his whole body jolt in pain.

"Deities answer me! Did you betray us?" Lightning demanded an answer as it gazed at the sky. Yet all it had in response was silence.

The gods who remained in the realm were not allowed to contact them. They were left to fend for themselves. Something which now felt horrifying as they experienced it. And it was at this moment that Pier finally came out.

"Ahhh magnificent!" The god of mischief and deceit stood just on top of [Chaos]. It did no harm to him nor did it seem to care. As for the other gods however, they were all the opposites.

"You!" One of the gods tried attacking Pier with a [Hydro Cannon] but his attack only passed through. Making them realize that what was in front of them was nothing but an illusion.

"Now come on; is that the proper way to treat one of your fellow descender?"

"Where is your real body? Come here and face us yourself!" Lightning said in reply, feeling her blood boil as soon as she saw Pier.

"No can do. I want to kiss all your cheeks and all but, I'd probably just do that to your corpses. That is, if anything would even be left of it."

At this point [Chaos] grew innumerable tentacles. This all aimed for the gods who began flying up in order to escape. In the suddenness of it all, they forgot that Frost was still bleeding and in pain. Thus, he was the first victim of [Chaos]. Screaming as the tentacle coiled itself around him and drowned him to the black abyss below.

Pier laughed even more as he saw this. This made the gods furious but, more than anything else, they felt fear creeping in on them. Frost has just died and it was likely that they'd go next.

"Look at you all acting all high and mighty a few minutes ago. Did you really think that everything would be answered as soon as you descended? Man, you guys must be all sorts of dumb."

"What are you talking about! Aren't you just the same as us?" Lightning said in reply, with Pier drawing a disgusted look on his face from the words that were uttered.

"Same as you? No. No. No. You must be hallucinating my dear goddess. Okay let me explain everything to you for now." As soon as he said this, projectiles shot out of [Chaos]. Surprised, some of the gods were not able to dodge in time and, as a result, their bodies corroded in a matter of seconds.

"HAHAHAHA! You really thought I'd be explaining anything to you fools? You can all die for all I care!" This time monsters came out of [Chaos], flying up on the sky as they aimed to kill the gods and goddesses.

It was a beautiful requiem for Pier. He enjoyed the sight, moving his arms and wrists as if he was conducting for an Orchestra. He closed his eyes. Hearing the screams, wails, cries for help, despair, agony, bones crushing, flesh tearing apart, all in a wonderful harmony.

It was the first time that any of them have actually gone into a fight. Of course they were gods before anything else. But the rules changed drastically as they became mortals. Their bodies have become susceptible to the same limitations that prevent mortals from transcending.

There was a certain limit to the amount of skill they could use. There was a threshold to their mana capacity. Their bodies could not withstand the constant use of high-level magic nor was it possible. This was the reason why Frost's body acted up the way it did earlier. As well as the reason why he couldn't produce enough power to cover [Chaos] entirely in ice.

Adding to this was the fact that, they literally had no combat experience. No matter how strong they were, fighting skills in itself was a different matter altogether. They all fired skills, thought thoroughly of their movements. But at the end of the day, if Zeke was there to watch them, he'd only sigh in frustration and squint his eyes as he gets annoyed by the sight.

They were nothing more than rookies given master accounts. Fidgeting around without knowing what it was that they should prioritize. And, this was the main reason why everything began going downhill for them.

One by one the gods died to [Chaos]. The creature absorbed them and took their powers as its own. Growing even more rapidly than before and, after thirty minutes passed, only Lightning remained.

"Look at you. Who knew that the same proud and self - loathing goddess of lighting would be reduced to this state?" It was the real Pier this time around. He approached the goddess only to have her grovel at his feet.

"Spare me. Please Pier. I would do anything for you. I would even be your woman if you so wish."

"Oh really? Okay then, I accept your surrender."

"Really?" Lightning said in reply. Brimming with hope in her eyes.

"Yes. You can start by being food for my pet." Another tentacle grabbed Lightning's ankle. She screamed and screamed. Teary eyed and trembling as all light disappeared completely.
