The Supreme Level Up System

Chapter 258 Hidden Identity

The creature had a humanoid shape, but it was hard to say if it was human since a dark cloak covered its whole body. However, Aion could feel a presence of familiarity coming from it… that couldn't be a good thing. That sense of familiarity was weird coming from someone unknown.

All of a sudden, the creature dashed toward them. Still, Aion stepped forward and blocked the advance with his spear… the beast tried to stab Aion with a sword, but it wasn't strong enough to overpower him…

"This smell…" Aion thought.

Aion tried to see under the hood what that thing was to confirm his thought, but the enemy suddenly stepped forward and tried to headbutt him. Aion stepped forward while swinging his spear, but the enemy blocked the attack with its sword before it was pushed to the side… Aion saw it, and it was a black-haired man with gray and lifeless skin.

"A death knight? Did that woman summon it?" Aion thought.

Aion was expecting to see many things, but not a death knight. Things have been getting a lot weird lately…

"Aion!" Sauros shouted.

"I can deal with this," Aion said.

Aion was confused, but he didn't have time to waste anymore. So, he increased the grip on his weapon before charging.

The enemy raised his sword to block the attack, but Aion used Force Release at the last moment and then pierced the spear and the enemy's head with his sword.

Aion wondered what would happen… it couldn't be that his weapon would absorb the body… much to his surprise, the creature fell on the ground before becoming smoke and disappearing.

"That thing was…" Sauros said while furrowing his eyebrows.

Before he could continue, Sauros and the others saw a circular staircase appearing in the middle of the hall, and then the entrance appeared on the ceiling of the room… as expected, things would be that way.

"That was a person… but one that looked like it had been summoned by magic… I didn't think that was possible," Seris said. "I heard that in the past, someone developed a mutation that made them able to control the dead, and that man looked pretty dead to me… even though Aion's attack killed it again. I also read that such a person could make their minions appear and disappear."

So, that power really existed… it probably had been forgotten after so many years by most people. That was why Aion never heard anyone talking…

Regardless, the group headed toward the staircase and confirmed that the floor was ten meters tall… if all of them were like that, it would take a while to reach the top… it should have at least one hundred of them.

"I guess I will use my magic to help here," Aion thought.

When they reached the second floor, the group didn't see anything side than a copy of the previous hall. Eventually, another shadow appeared near the wall, but Aion just bombarded it with some ice arrows.

The creature used a lance to block several of them. Still, Aion increased the pace by changing his class to necromancer… the arrows became powerful enough to break even the enemy's spear before piercing it from several angles.

"Shouldn't we have analyzed things for a bit before kicking ass?" Sauros asked.

"You do have all the time in the world, don't you?" Aion asked. "I don't.

"We don't have time for this either, Sauros," Seris said. "We have been far away from home for too long as well. All of this work is starting to stress me out as well."

"Aren't you the one who was worried about the previous fight against the guardian?" Sauros asked. "What happened to your guys' mental stability? Act the way you should instead of just letting the weird mood affect your behavior."

"I am the same as always," Aion said.

"You talk like that isn't a problem in itself…" Sauros facepalmed.

Aion couldn't deny that his attitude was a problem sometimes, but he just shrugged. In the end, it was truly better to go up as fast as possible since that was just another test and the final part of the mission.

When the next staircase appeared, Sauros followed the other two after sighing. He had a bad feeling about the whole situation, and Aion already could tell what was going to happen just considering how much mana he gained from the first and second floors…

As soon as the enemy appeared on the next floor, Aion used ice arrows to kill it again. However, he frowned when he saw a mana shield appearing around the enemy. That wasn't something he had seen until now, even though it was supposed to be a very basic technique.

"Mana Shield… another lost spell," Sauros said.

"Lost? Is that something hard to replicate?" Aion asked.

"If it is easy, why have you never tried to use it?" Sauros asked.

"Dodging is faster, and it doesn't consume mana. The same thing is for blocking," Aion replied.

Aion charged toward the enemy, who canceled the mana shield and then began to fire Mana Arrows. Aion repelled them with his spear, but he could feel the weapon getting hotter with each projectile repelled… Aion furrowed his eyebrows and then used Sonic Throw.

The enemy raised Mana Shield again in a single instant… that speed reaction was truly unnatural for mages. In any case, Aion recovered his spear and then charged again, swinging his spear wildly,, attacking the Mana Shield since he knew the enemy was going to run out of mana soon…

Before that could happen, the enemy made some chains made of mana emerge from the ground and grabbed his legs. Aion furrowed his eyebrows… he thought that the enemy couldn't use other spells while Mana Shield was active… but that guess had been wrong…

The cloaked enemy suddenly summoned Mana Spears… then Aion sighed.
