The Supreme Level Up System

Chapter 44 Silence

After not so long, Georges and Philip had their fights, but they easily won. They were fighting in a style similar to their father, and while they weren't as skilled and as fast as the real deal, they weren't that bad either.

Eventually, Henri's turn came, and he equipped a sword and shield. He played by the book, but instead of doing that because he was afraid, it was more like it was his nature to be cautious against everyone. Thanks to that, he finished his adversary after using Shield Swing on their face. The real surprise came afterward… Jagger showed up, and he was only equipped with a pair of gauntlets.

"I am pretty sure I saw him carrying a sword a few times… Still, the real problem is that he will face Henri if he wins," Aion thought.

That will probably be a good fight, but Aion was worried that the guild Master would do something stupid. The chances of him doing something stupid in a match against him were much higher, but still…

There was no use in thinking about that… Jagger's adversary was an officer equipped with a war hammer. Considering their weapons and stances, Aion assumed that Jagger was faster, but the enemy could defeat him in a single hit. While he was thinking that, the referee started the fight, and then in the next moment, the adversary was sent flying into the distance. Aion barely saw that… But Jagger moved from a resting position to one after finishing the attack in a matter of an instant. Another instant knockout…

"I guess people get really strong after surviving wars in this world… Is that how most people evolve or mutate?" Aion wondered. "Father mentioned that some people don't treat them like humans, but considering that he and Jagger can do this much… I wonder what is borderline human and what isn't in this world…"

Aion wondered if his mother's family was hated because their powers looked more inhumane than anything. Aion learned a bit of magic coming from her, but he didn't think that it was that insane.

Regardless, Aion's turn came after a while, and then he went to the waiting room to choose his weapon. He picked two hand axes as planned, and his adversary got a spear. He didn't know if it was intentional or a coincidence, but short weapons usually have a problem with spears.

"Well, it is something I need to get used to as soon as possible," Aion thought. "I was planning to end this fight as soon as possible, but perhaps I should take my time."

Eventually, Aion and the Gravon were called, and the whole audience went silent. Aion couldn't hide his face while fighting, but his name alone made them lose all of their excitement. He expected to hear some insult him or at least cheer for the enemy, but not total silence.

"I am fighting for my mother's freedom, so I really don't care…" Aion thought.

Aion assumed his battle stance, and the enemy so did the same. After a while, the referee voiced the start of the battle. Gravon didn't have to get too close to get in range and immediately thrust his spear toward Aion's stomach, but the attack was blocked by one of Aion's hand axes. It looked like the attack had been too obvious…

It seemed that the adversary didn't like him, but he wasn't insane enough to Aim for the head of someone that young without knowing his strength. Still, now that the first attack ended like that, Gravon knew that he had to try harder.

A torrent of stabs flew toward Aion's body. Each of the strikes didn't have much weight behind them, but they sure were sharp. He blocked most of them and dodged others without taking a step backward, even though they passed only a few centimeters from his body. Still, moving forward wasn't easy either. The attacks would get more troublesome if he didn't do that all at once and cover that distance. Spears were good at middle range, but they couldn't show their true power at close range since the swings of their users would be limited.

All of a sudden, Gravon stopped attacking and then took a step forward before using all his strength and the weight of his body on a powerful thrust. Aion used both of his axes to block the attack, but he was still pushed backward for half a meter. Before he could recover from the impact, the enemy took another step and swung his spear while aiming at Aion's head.

Aion lowered his stance, but he also attacked the weapon. The strike didn't break the spear but made it tremble alongside the Gravon's arm. Aion used that window of time to approach and attack. Gravon tried to kick him, but Aion jumped again and dodged the attack. He spun in the air and then kicked the stomach of his target and made him fall backward.

It had been a while since Aion fought anyone, so he didn't know if he used too little or too much strength, but in the end, he confirmed that he had used too little since the enemy got up quite fast, and he also looked pissed since Aion didn't use his weapons.

"So, unreasonable…" Aion thought. "My goal is to free my mother, and I don't need to give any more reason for people to hate us. Fighting to death in a tournament also seems pretty stupid."

Gravon didn't waste much time recovering from the impact, even though Aion felt his ribs cracking. Well, he has worn a thick armor, so perhaps it had been Aion's imagination. Gravon charged and then swung down his spear. That wasn't the best way to use a weapon like that, so Aion easily dodged by moving to the side and then approached using his axes to smack the stomach of the adversary.

Aion attacked several times in a row and insanely fast. Gravon didn't have time to react since he lost the air in his lungs each time he got hit. Before long, he fell unconscious to the ground. People thought that Aion had killed him, but there was no blood around. The head of his axes wasn't sharp, after all.
