There is Something Wrong with This Game

Chapter E009 – Suddenly Became a Mother

The same day, that afternoon, 16:10.

After finishing lunch and taking a short nap, Hecate logged in once again.

The familiar surroundings of the Archades Ruins materialized around her as her avatar took form. Without wasting any time, she quickly activated Fast Travel, teleporting to the Ebremus Tower.

Hecate had been postponing her visit here for a specific reason—the imparting of skills into the Territory Skill.

This process had been on her to-do list, but she had delayed it for some time due to its demanding nature. Imparting skills into the Territory Skill was no easy feat, it required a considerable amount of uninterrupted time, and any disruption would force her to start over from scratch.

'Haah, this will be a very boring process...'

Most of the skills she intended to impart required more than eight hours of continuous focus, with some taking as long as 12 to 34 hours, and a few even stretching into days. Only a small number of skills required between six to eight hours, but even that was a long time in the game.

It was likely that this feature had been designed with Natives in mind rather than Players.

Given the standard eight-hour consecutive login limit, it was almost impossible for Players to impart these skills unless they were willing to spend their entire gaming session on this task alone.

Although the recent release of the nutrient solution injection pack by the Gaia Corporation allowed Players to bypass the login limit, but who would be willing to dedicate such a large chunk of time to this tedious process?

'Hmm, perhaps I should buy a few nutrient solution pack after all?'

She muttered under her breath, contemplating whether she should purchase the nutrient solution pack. Previously, she had never needed or wanted to use it, but now the circumstances were different.

But then she quickly dismissed the idea.

'Nah, I'd rather not do that.'

The nutrient solution would remove the login limit, sure, but it came with a catch—she would have to undergo a health check and provide her health data to the Gaia Corporation.

It would be the same as revealing that she had been healthy all this time and she would lose her privileges in the school as a sick person.

Hecate had chosen this specific time of day for a reason.

The login limit reset at midnight, and by starting the process at 16:10, she could theoretically remain logged in for 16 hours straight—minus 10 minutes, just to be safe. Those 10 minutes were a buffer to ensure the impartation process wouldn't be interrupted, as even the slightest disturbance could ruin the entire effort.

Standing in the center room of the dilapidated tower, Hecate sighed as she gazed at the crystal in front of her. It was an ancient artifact, a remnant of a bygone era, now repurposed for this arduous task.

With a final sigh, she reached out and touched the crystal, initiating the impartation process.

“The first skill to impart… Precision Mana Control Lv6!”

This skill was vital.

Not only did it reduce MP consumption and increase spell power, but it also allowed for precise calibration of MP usage and, most importantly, multi-threading spells. The amount of time this would take was worth it.

As the process began, Hecate watched the crystal glow faintly, the ambient mana in the room swirling around her.

However, a sudden thought crossed Hecate’s mind.

There was something else she needed to do. She quickly released her hand from the crystal, expecting the process to stop immediately. But to her surprise, the crystal continued to glow, the imprinting process still running smoothly.

"Hmm, what is this?"

Confused, she looked closer and noticed a thin line of mana extending from her body into the crystal.

A realization dawned on her—this was the work of her skill, Spell Remote Activation. It allowed her to maintain a remote connection with her spells for a certain distance, even without physical contact.

"Well, that’s convenient!"

There was no longer any need to cancel the process.

With the skill at level 2, she had a range of 15 meters—more than enough to cover the entire room. As long as she remained within the room, the imprinting would continue uninterrupted.

"Now, let's deal with this."

With the imprinting issue solved, Hecate activated her Mana Clone skill. In an instant, a perfect duplicate of herself appeared beside her, wearing the same attire, including the Black Phantom's Cloak.

She then switched her wand to the +10 Superior Eldritch Bone Wand and used the third skill of the wand.

— "Rise, my shadow! Be born and serve me in this world! Raise Undead!!"

Dark energy began to swirl around the wand, crackling with malevolent intent. Hecate aimed the wand at her clone, and the energy lashed out, enveloping the duplicate in a shroud of darkness. The air grew cold, and the room filled with an eerie silence as the spell took hold.

The clone’s body twitched and shuddered as the dark energy seeped into it. For a moment, it seemed as if the clone was resisting, but then it stood perfectly still, its eyes glowing faintly with an unnatural light. The Raise Undead spell had done its work, imbuing the clone with a foul mimicry of life.

Hecate smiled as she saw the clone move, a wave of satisfaction washing over her.

'So, it worked after all... No need for corpses or deceased creatures—just a body, any body.'

The implications were vast, and she could already envision the many ways this discovery could benefit her.

But what happened next caught her completely off guard. The clone, with its usual expressionless face, suddenly dropped to one knee before her, head bowed.

"Mother."

Hecate blinked, her smile fading into an expression of sheer bewilderment.

Of all the things she had anticipated, this was not one of them. Here she was, an eighteen-year-old girl, suddenly being addressed as "mother" by a being that looked exactly like her. She stared down at the clone, trying to process the absurdity of the situation.

'Mother? Did I just become a mother to a full-grown… my own clone?'

The thought was both ridiculous and slightly unnerving. She hadn’t expected the spell to work this well, much less with such unexpected consequences.

Recovering quickly from her initial shock, Hecate leaned forward to inspect her "daughter" more closely. The clone, now kneeling at her feet, gazed up at her with an unwavering gaze—calm, obedient, and eerily aware.

I didn’t expect much from this experiment. At best, I thought it would be a mindless puppet—a body without a soul, something that I’d have to train from scratch. And at worst…

Her thoughts trailed off, recalling the possibility of creating an uncontrollable zombie that would attack anything in sight.

But this? This was beyond her expectations.

The clone's behavior, though bizarre, was a pleasant surprise. It’s not just a walking corpse—it has reasoning, it can be talked to, perhaps even commanded. The possibilities began to unfold in her mind, her initial surprise giving way to excitement.

With a graceful motion, Hecate raised her hand, adopting the role that the clone seemed to expect of her.

"Rise, my child, and tell me what you are."

The clone stood up, facing Hecate with an expression of calm clarity.

"I am your creation, born from your mana and the spell you cast. My purpose is to serve you, Mother."

Hecate’s eyes narrowed slightly as she assessed the clone. Born from her mana… so, the spell didn’t just animate the body—it gave it a sense of identity, linked to her.

The thought was intriguing, and a slight smirk curled her lips.

With that said, as a mother, it would be inappropriate to let her daughter have no name. So without wasting any more time Hecate decided on her name would be Yuna, derived from the Italian word "una" meaning "one".

"I see... From now on, your name will be Yuna."

"Yes, Mother, I am Yuna."

The clone, now Yuna, nodded and repeated her name, "Yuna".

While Hecate pondered the implications of her newfound "daughter", she inspected Yuna's stats.

Race: Mana Revenant (Undead)

Introduction:
Mana Revenants are unique undead beings created from pure mana that has been infused with dark energy.

Unlike traditional undead, which are reanimated corpses, Mana Revenants retain a connection to their original magical essence, allowing them to maintain some of the abilities and intelligence they had in their original form.

However, they are bound to the will of their creator and possess an aura of dark magic.

Racial Skills of Mana Revenant:

— Mana Drain:
The Mana Revenant can drain mana from a target to replenish its own reserves. This ability allows the Revenant to sustain itself in prolonged battles or restore mana when it is running low.

The amount of mana drained scales with the Revenant's level.

— Ethereal Form:
Grants the Mana Revenant the ability to phase through solid objects and become partially intangible for a short duration.

While in Ethereal Form, the Revenant is immune to physical attacks but takes increased damage from magical attacks.

Race: Mana Revenant (Undead)

Continued from previous page...

— Dark Pulse:
Releases a wave of dark energy that damages and potentially paralyzes enemies within a certain radius. The paralysis chance increases with the Revenant's level and the amount of mana it has stored.
— Soul Bind:
The Mana Revenant is bound to its creator's soul, granting it increased strength and resilience when near the creator.

This bond also allows the Revenant to sense its creator's location and condition, enabling it to respond to their needs instinctively.

— Mana Corruption (Lesser):
Corrupts a target’s mana, causing their spells to become unstable. This may result in increased mana costs, reduced spell effectiveness, or even spell misfires. The effects last for a short duration but can be devastating in the right circumstances.
— Reanimation (Lesser):
Upon being destroyed, the Mana Revenant can reanimate itself after a short delay. This ability has a long cooldown and can only occur once every 24 hours. Upon reanimation, the Revenant’s HP becomes 1 and its stats are reduced by a certain percentage until it fully recovers.

Hecate studied Yuna's status window closely, her eyes narrowing as she took in the details. The words "Mana Revenant" immediately caught her attention. This was a race Hecate had never encountered before, which piqued her curiosity.

Yuna’s status reflected this unusual origin. Her HP and MP were combined into a single, unified pool, without upper limit. This unique trait suggested that her life force and magical energy were one and the same. The current value of 300,000 was not an arbitrary number, it was the exact amount of MP Hecate had expended to create the clone.

The race's other notable feature was Yuna's lack of a stamina bar. As an undead being, she was free from the physical limitations that plagued living creatures. This means that Yuna could fight, cast spells, and perform any other strenuous activity without ever tiring.

The reset of Yuna’s level to 1, despite inheriting Hecate’s Archwitch class, was not entirely unexpected.

The system recognized her as a new entity, a fresh slate with untapped potential. However, she was no mere novice. Yuna had inherited 1460 unallocated stat points and 146 skill points, both matching the amount Hecate had accumulated by the time she advanced to her 3rd Jobclass.

In her Skill Tree, Hecate noted the presence of "Extremity of Primary Elements," the same skill that she herself possessed. However, what set Yuna apart was the absence of any class restriction on upgrading this skill. While Hecate was required to be in the Fantasy Archwitch class to upgrade this skill, Yuna did not have that restriction.

This made Yuna potentially more powerful, although she lacked the additional 189 skill points that Hecate had obtained from a certain item.

As she continued her inspection, Hecate noted that Yuna’s subclasses and extra skills were also reset to level 1. Yuna had inherited her skills in Acrobatics, Collector, and Blacksmithing, but like everything else, these too would need to be retrained from scratch.

There was no equipment skills. It seems that the attire Yuna wore, including the Black Phantom's Cloak, was not physical gear but rather a manifestation of mana, just like her body. This suggested that Yuna’s appearance could be altered at will, potentially changing her form or equipment as needed.

However, it also meant that Yuna would not benefit from traditional equipment and their upgrades —unless Hecate found a way to equip her with actual equipment specifically designed for a Mana Revenant.

Satisfied with her inspection, Hecate closed the status window with a wave of her hand.

With a purposeful gesture, she accessed the Territory Management interface. Her eyes scanned the statistics, and a small smirk curled on her lips. The territory population had indeed increased by one. The addition was unmistakably due to Yuna’s presence.

Hecate's thoughts shifted as she realized something important—she now had a means of raising her territory's population significantly. Each new Revenant she created would not only bolster her personal power but also contribute to increasing the population of her territory.

It was a strategic advantage she hadn't fully grasped until now, and it opened up new possibilities for the future.

'Nine more times today, and ten more tomorrow...'

She mentally noted the remaining uses of the Raise Undead spell, which still allowed for nine more casts today and ten more tomorrow. Each cast of the spell would cost her 15 Karma, but with 1,164 Karma points left, she was far from concerned.
