To Grow

Chapter 16

The math class wasn't too hard. I had spent countless hours doing math exercises with the Teaching Assistant while stock in the bright white cell. I copied down everything diligently, though, and did the exercises Ms. McDonald handed out. The bell rang, signalling the end of the first block. I didn't like the bell. It's ring reverberated in my head, and left me slightly dizzy.

I checked my schedule. My next block was science, and then after that was social studies. Then it was lunch.

Why did the overseer ask 'shouldn't you be in class?' when I walked in yesterday? School only began today. I absentmindedly wondered.

Science was interesting. I had learned it before, but the teacher for that class jumped straight into dissecting a normal frog. It was slightly fun, though I had to suppress the urge to eat it.

Social studies was boring. Very boring and dry. But, like my other two classes, I wrote notes for it.

Then lunch came. The cafeteria was too crowded for my liking. Too many eyes, scents, and sounds.

I exited the school through a side entrance and wandered the grounds. I could sense the occasional squirrel, though.

If no one sees me shifting, it should be fine, right? I felt some resistance to the thought, and I ignored it. Since when was I so adverse to shifting and hunting?

I took off all my clothing, because I knew they would just get ripped and I only had one set of backup clothing. Once I was finished, I shifted into my quick furred form and began stalking. I had checked before that no one was near, and my senses agreed. Unless there was some power to be completely scentless.

With two squirrels, I was just full. I buried the bones, then checked the ground for any bloodstains. Once I was sure there was no signs of my hunt, I shifted back to a human, wore my clothes, picked up my school supplies, and left. I had almost forgotten that I had blood on my face, until I shifted into human form and scratched at my itchy nose.

I shifted into my big furred form and cleaned my face thoroughly. Big furred ones were very particular about grooming and cleanliness.

In the afternoon, I had one elective block and one selfstudy block after that. My elective had been chosen for me, but apparently, it was something named 'Battlemaster', and took place in a separate building. The Dean had told me before that Battlemaster was a popular sport throughout the world, and was popular enough that making a career from it was possible, and there were schools dedicated to teaching it to students.

Apparently, where Nugleisia had superheroes and villains for entertainment, the rest of the world had Battlemaster.

The class was mostly about introductions. The teacher there, Mr. Snider, said that tomorrow would be when the 'real stuff happens'.

During self study, I managed to finish about three quarters of my math assignment, half of my science homework, and had no progress on my social studies homework. I packed up my things and left walked back to the dorm. I was greeted by a 'Shouldn't you be in class?' by the overseer. At this point, I think she was just confused.

I entered my dorm, placed all my school related things on my desk, and left with my wallet, intent on buying toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, shampoo, and sleepwear. Oh, and a watch.

This was going to be painful.

She watched her new roommate come in, drop off her things, and leave. Her new roommate was weird. First, she walked in on Summer and Mark fucking, which would even cause her to be awkward, but Storm (weird name) just paused slightly, then sat down on the opposite bed and began rifling through her clothing. She then looked up and said it was fine, and that she didn't mind. All the while, her face was perfectly straight.

Summer had watched her the entire time. Storm spent the whole evening sitting and staring at nothing, which was just unsettling, and when she did move, it was to pull of the t-shirt and sweatpants she was wearing, along with her shoes, and sleep.

While she was taking off her clothes, Summer managed to catch a glimpse of a multitude of scars on her body, some small and faded, while others were large and new. Especially the one on her left wrist. It was covered in large slashes.

Honestly, she creeped Summer out quite a bit. Summer couldn't help but come to the conclusion that her new roommate was definitely a serial killer at one point. Summer herself was in this school for thievery and assault, but that didn't mean she was a murderer. She was a terrible and shameless person, yes, but that didn't mean she deserved to be with a very -and possible serial killer- dangerous person.

And then there was Storm's face. Usually, she wouldn't be very judgemental on a person't face, but her eyes. And her ears. Her teeth and tongue. Her tongue. It looked very flexible. She couldn't help but wonder, what did it feel like to be licked by a tongue like that.

No, no. She is dangerous. Just look at her teeth! She's like the Big Bad Wolf.

The best thing to do is to not get on her bad side.
