Truth Of The Forgotten Age

2-06: Research

Sore and exhausted, the girls were finally let go to do their own things for the rest of the day. Veronica had went to the library for the umpteenth time. However, she finally wanted to find out who her Spirit was.

But, what does she have to go on?

'Let's see... Looking for... demons and... wars? It does say she was a commander, so maybe we can find this "Lilith Odessa" in a history book about some kind of war involving demons. But how long ago was it?'

She went from shelf to shelf grabbing whatever she could find. Everything from history of the world and demon encyclopedias, to small news articles of various ages.

Her table, as she sat down, was covered in what could simply be a wall of books. All of that history and knowledge. If Veroninca wasn't looking for a specific thing, this would've been the time of her life.

But, she wasn't here for fun. She wanted to find out who was, in a sense, inside of her. Veronica started skimming through everything, starting from shortest to longest.

Articles first then. Nothing. Just talking about feral demon attacks. Fine, guess the articles are too new.

Historical texts. Again, nothing. Just heroes defeating powerful demons, but bot a single thing about a succubus commander.

Maybe the encyclopedias? Nothing! Even though it gives the names of famous demons, the name "Lilith Odessa" never appeared even once.

It was either one of two things. She's not looking far enough, or anything about Lilith Odessa has been wiped from history. But why? Who would get rid of what would've been such interesting history?

Veronica sighed as she looked for everything again and again and again. Often getting up to get new sources. But no matter how many times she read them, how many new sources she got, she wasn't ever getting closer to figuring out who this succubus was.

It was already getting late, so Veronica had gotten up and returned everything she borrowed before going back to her dorm.

"Ver, where were you? I wanted to play!" Cassidy said seductively, wrapping herself around Veronica.

"Cass, your idea of playing is lewd. And I'm not in the mood right now."

"Fine, fine. You didn't answer my question though."

"I was in the library, trying to find something, anything about who my Spirit was. But I found nothing."

"I see. Perhaps we can help you. Though, we don't know much about who or what your Spirit really is. Except for me. I already know that it's a succubus."

"How did you...?"

"I put the dots together after overhearing you and Tisha a while ago."

"So you heard that much?"

"Yep. Anyways, that's not important right now. We can try helping tomorrow. But first, sleep. You realize how late it is? You missed dinner! Avi cooked! And she's damn good at it. Maybe you can warm up the left overs."

"Right, sure. I'll go ahead and do that. Everyone else is asleep?"

"Yeah. I'm about to go to sleep too." Cassidy stiffled a yawn as she continued. "Just wanted to great you first."

"I'm here now, weirdo. Go to sleep. I'm gonna do the same in a bit."

Cassidy nodded, turned around and went to her room, yawning on the way.

Veronica, on the other hand, felt her stomach rumble. Perhaps it wasn't the greatest idea to not eat anything for twelve hours. So, she grabbed whatever leftovers were there a warmed them up using the school's state-of-the-art quick heater. A genius combination of metal and magic stones that allows one to warm up cold food.

She ate what Aviris had cooked, and even reheated, it was really good. Perhaps on the same level as professional chefs.

After filling her stomach, Veronica went to bed, trying to figure out how to gain more information of this "Lilith Odessa".

When she awoke, she found herself in a strange place. This wasn't her room. Or the school ground for that matter. It was a ruin. Older than anything Veronica had even heard of, but still in excellent condition. Not a single crack, or hole, or even collapsed roof.

She walked forwards, exploring this ruin, or ancient building. Soon, she heard some kind of muttering. Just one person. Female. Alone. But what was it? It was a language she couldn't understand. It was similar to Infernal, but there something odd about it, making it impossible to understand.

Veronica continued towards the voice. Further and further, the muttering grew louder and louder.

Soon, Veroninca found herself at an alter, where a woman, or what she thinks is a woman, was kneeling, praying. The shape was hard to make out, silhouetted in a shroud of darkness. The voice was unmistakably female, and soon, she spoke. In the basic tongue.

"I've been sitting here for eons... and eons... waiting for someone, anyone, to free me. And here you are, my successor."
