Valerian, The Legendary

Chapter 152

152 Flight.

The Thunder Falcon was a proud beast, but it was injured in a fatal spot, and by the time it heals, its life might have come to an end. After all, the forest and the magic beasts were not very kind to the weak. Even though the thunder falcons lived in the same spot, they did not have a relationship with each other.

This was just a mutually beneficial co-existence. Thunder Falcons felt safe when they were surrounded by their kin, even if they did not have any complex relationships. This was because the thunder falcons were magical beasts with lightning elementals. A species that was rarest among the rarest. Thus, they were counted against by the humans and other beasts all the same.

It was believed that their blood could allow the consumer to gain their powers, however, no one has ever succeeded, yet the humans lusted after their blood like forever.

The thunder falcon did not feel any malice from this human in front of him, and that was what scared him even more. Imagine if this guy really just left him to die, the other beasts will just rip him apart and even his kin will not come in to help.

Fortuna said, ‘Valerian, form a bond with this guy.’

The child nodded and pricked the tip of his left ring finger and a drop of blood appeared quickly. He then followed the knowledge from the books and drew a circular rune on the forehead of the thunder falcon. While doing this he channeled the wind mana through the blood mark. There were different kinds of bonds.

Usually, a mage will be able to bond with a beast only when they have the appropriate mana attribute to support them, however, the attribute of the beast should be the same as the mage too. Magical beasts were too different and the wise men have never been able to really understand the mysteries they had.

Valerian had never formed a bond with a magical beast, this was his first time. Fortuna had told him that the thunder falcons had the lightning attribute, but they also had another attribute, which was the wind attribute. Birds were favored by the wind, however, the wind element lay dormant in them but the speed they gained in the sky was all because of the wind attribute.

After Valerian finished casting the circle the Thunder Falcon closed his eyes as he surrendered and a warm current flowed through his body. After five minutes, the big bird opened its eyes and cast a gaze at the human child in front of him.

.....

Valerian could sense some hesitation in his eyes and smiled faintly as he said, “What is your name?”

The falcon was surprised, Valerian was speaking to him through his thoughts. Also, this human asked him for a name. The thunder falcon shook his head and said, “I do not have a name.”

Valerian sighed and said, “Well, that is not a big deal. I think only dragons are given names after they are born. The rest do not. Mathiyus was also named by me. Well, let me think of a name for you.”

The boy pinched his cheek and fell into a deep thought whilst Fortuna had made the head of the thunder falcon her throne. Valerian said, “Just now you used a magical skill to fight Mathiyus, you were like a streak of lightning passing through the void. How about I name you Linea?”

The thunder falcon thought about it and then nodded. Valerian smiled and said, “Can you take us to cross the Stella empire?”

Linea was surprised at this request and then asked, “Are you mocking me? My wing blade is hurt, I cannot fly now.”

Valerian slapped his forehead and came over to heal the bird. He cast a high-grade healing spell. The effect was significant and the hole in the wing blade was healed and replaced by new flesh. Linea was surprised when he saw this. She did not expect this guy to have multiple attributes.

The thunder falcon shook his wing and flew high in the sky. After circling the around the group once, it came down. Valerian asked, “Can you take us now?”

Linea nodded and said, “Yes, sire, However, I have never been too far from this place.”

Valerian said, “Don’t worry, we will guide you.”

The bird looked at the sky and said, “The sun is about to come up...”

Fortuna finally could not help it and scowled, “You defective bird, what a waste of feathers. What are you so afraid of in the day? Tell me.”

The thunder falcon said, “There is never lightning under the sun.”

Indeed, the attribute of lightning was simply too destructive but it could not be used without the dark clouds. Valerian said, “It’s alright, you can rest now, we will find something to eat and then think about some method.”

Linea was embarrassed and could not say anything. Fortuna shook her head and said, “To think that I spent so much thought on selecting this guy.”

Valerian looked at the trees in the distance and thought of something. Priscilla should have come back by now. He gazed at Mathiyus and said, “Call her over.”

Mathiyus passed his thoughts to Priscilla, who came over after a few minutes. She was not looking as perm as before, and Valerian asked, “What happened?”

Priscilla first took a look at the big blue bird and then said, “I found a few soldiers, had to silence them.”

Valerian narrowed his gaze and asked, “Are you hurt?”

Priscilla shook her head and then asked, “When can we leave? Although I tried my best to clean up the scene, there might be some traces left. If the enemy sent stronger people, we will be in trouble.”

Valerian frowned and Fortuna smacked her paw on the head of the thunder falcon and said, “You are a mighty flying magical beast. Magic is meant to bend the rules. You are blessed with two attributes, the wind attribute, and the lightning attribute. What scares you so much? The sun? Yesterday was a clear sky night, and you flew. There is no lighting without the thunderclouds. Sun or moon has nothing to do with it.”

Linea was unable to refute her, but when he subconsciously thought about the words uttered by the dragon just now, he realized that it was indeed true. His kin flew at night because they believed that lightning came from the dark.

It was as if suddenly a switch flipped in the brain of the thunder falcon and with a flap of his wings, he took the skies. The beast flew around at high speeds and even produced a dim streak of lightning sparks through the path it took. Fortuna was still riding on its head, but Valerian could not tell what was she going through. He was very fascinated with the deep dives and agile turns Linea took.

After a few minutes when Linea landed on the ground, Fortuna had turned back into her dragon shape and jumped onto Valerian’s shoulder. She said, “You better discipline this chicken of yours. How dare it bully my noble self like this?”

She was too stubborn to accept that she was still young and weak and blamed the thunder falcon for flying fast. Valerian smiled as he caressed her with the back of his fingers to soothe her mood. Linea said, “Sire, we can fly now.”

Valerian was surprised and asked, “Huh, what happened? You do not have to force yourself, Linea. We can wait till the night.”

The bluebird felt that this human knew compassion, and his old self would have agreed but he said, “Her Excellency bestowed inspiration to me. How can I let her down?”

Valerian was confused and raised his eyebrow, he wanted to ask what this guy meant, when Linea continued, “A dragon can inspire the other beasts to look past their limitations and I succeeded. Nature gave us powers but to prevent us from getting too overbearing and forgetting what we were, it also bound us to rules. A dragon can break those rules.”

Valerian looked at the silver dragon on his shoulder and nodded after digesting this news. He was about to get on the back of the falcon when he thought of something and asked, “What about Mathiyus?”

Priscilla shook her head and said, “You do not have to worry, Your Highness. I have a beast pouch here. I acquired it from the enemy I defeated. It is a safe place where living beasts can live in peace.”

Valerian did not ask anything, such a bag was a rare product and Priscilla had one. The lady quickly asked Mathiyus to get inside the bag, who reluctantly did so. The couple then climbed the back of Linea. Fortuna was coiling around Valerian’s neck. She did not want to be confined and thus the boy could only be the carrier.

Valerian patted the back of the bird, and with a smooth motion, Linea flapped his wings and flashed through the void. The silver-haired boy peeked down from the side and said, “Linea, go as fast as you can, fly in the direction where the sun rises from.”

A loud and shrill voice filled the surroundings and the beast flew.
