What to do if you find out that you are a cannon fodder in a cultivation novel?

Chapter 25: Chaos at the Yu residence

When we arrived at the Yu residence we saw chaos; servants running around, crashes and loud cries noises coming from the main building. Luckily, when the housekeeper saw us with a group of patrol officers, he came running.

“Young master Bai, are you hurt? Has anything happened to you?” He acted well enough to convey his concerns. I refused to talk and hid behind grandma Li and let the officers explain the situation.

“This… it is true that old lady Yu asked the driver personally to bring young master Bai from school. Today was a bit chaotic so the driver was late. Please excuse him” said the housekeeper with a bow toward the officers. That was enough for the patrol officers. As for the independent part, it was not part of their jurisdiction.

“What is going on here?” asked an officer. Making sure that the screams were tantrums and not something illegal - this was part of their jobs too -

“This is ... There was a problem at school and everyone is distressed. I can put my life on the line that I am saying the truth” vouched the housekeeper. It was not the time to get a member of the Yu family to come out to testify nor could he let officers go and check by themselves. The officer's cultivation base was much higher than the housekeeper so it was easy for him to check if this was a lie or not. With this, they soon left the residence after praising my security awareness. One of them even stressed, in front of the housekeeper, the part of never following people if I did not trust them.

After they left, I asked the housekeeper “Why did grandmother change her mind about the driver?”

“...This ... you will have to ask her yourself. Right now she is not available but I will let her know you want to meet her” answered the housekeeper nervously

“No need. I was just curious” I prefer to not see her if possible “Then why are the servants running back and forth?” I asked again.

“This…I am not sure if I can say” the housekeeper was more nervous

“It is OK. forget I asked. It is not like I am considered a member of this family” and with that I turned around and went to the courtyard

First thing I did was to go to the kitchen to put some of the fresh produce we bought in the morning for tonight’s dinner. I went to my room afterward and wrote down the wage and bonus levels I decided on for my current and future employees. I did not do the inventory of my ring yet but I knew I had more than enough so I set one low level spiritual stone per month for 4th level of Qi condensation. The third level would get one low level stone every 2 months. The second level would be one stone every 4 months while the first level would only get a stone per year.

After level 4, the wages would double per level until foundation establishment. Bonuses were set up to motivate my employees to increase their level, let’s say 10 low level stones per level increase. After the 6th level I would give 100 stones. I would need to give out a bit of silver for their daily expenses so I plan to give everyone 50 silver taels regardless of the type of job. Instead of giving them their first salary in advance, an employment incentive could be given to help them get stronger faster. I was not sure how much...it would depend on their strength and my expectations.

This wage rule was only for general purpose. I planned to give out much more to the Li trio bonus wise. I felt close to them and, so far, they were sincere and loyal. Even if I was betrayed over and over again in my first life, my 2nd life showed me the beauty of trust and family love. I would not trust blindly anymore but I would give the benefit of the doubt as long as their action calls for it

Now that this was done, I reviewed my mental list. Teacher Liu was already in jail a decade earlier than the original timeline. Whether he would be executed or not did not matter as he would never teach again in this life.

This time I knew why everyone ignored me, this could have affected the spread of my reputation earlier. With my achievement awards and the fact that two of the three cousins who spread the false rumors were in a cheating scandal would make a lot of people doubt them so no need to do anything to whitewash myself.

I wondered if the boy who invited me to shop two days ago was part of the cheating scandal. If he was, he would not be able to bully poor kids anymore and the kid who might die 2 years from now would be safe. I had to make sure before crossing it from the to do list though...

Li Bo turning into a murderer would not happen in this life since I hired his grandmother and brother. Teacher Huo would not be killed because of me as long as I played it smart and stayed away from him

Now what was left was finding a way to prepare against this freezing winter then the city lord’s poisoning in 10 years. I already started with AnNan's history books. I had to go back to the library and continue reading whenever I had time. As for the city lord’s poisoning…

Summoning 'Perfect memory recall';

No one knew who poisoned him but it was done for a long period of time. His wife was affected alongside him so it should be in his residence. When he was sick, his entourage were looking for the ice heart pills level 5. After he took it, he was detoxified but he lost part of his base cultivation and went down to the early stage of core formation and his wife could not be saved.

The brother of aunt Liu replaced him... he was my first suspect and a good starting point to investigate. I had to check who from the Liu family was currently linked to the city lord. This would be hard for me, not only because I was too young to be taken seriously but also had no idea how to do it secretly. I could not even trust the information guild! In my first life, they contributed to the rumors against me.

Happy day everyone,

Today I am early because I will be busy this evening but I do not have enough time and energy to do a full editing. Please let me know if there are mistakes (I am sure there are)

Also, I found out that last week the top tag #82 Xianxia changed to #29 naïve protagonist... I am happy about it but our MC might not be. Last week he did some nerd thinking and got an award proving how smart he was!
