Althea: The Legendary Saintess [Shoujo]

Chapter 73 – Preparation Before The Farewell Party For Graduating Students

A week had passed since their outing, and Althea, accompanied by Laila, had just picked up the processed magic stones. Now, alone in her room, she was about to imbue the magic stones with spells.

— "Imbuing Magic" —

This was originally a special magic used by races with enormous magical power and long lifespans, like fairies. It was considered almost impossible for humans to use. When Althea had imprinted magic on sweets, the fairy Ciel advised her, "It's a rare ability for humans and different from ordinary magic, so it's better not to do it often." Since then, Althea had stopped imbuing magic.

Today, she was going to perform an imbuement for the first time in a long while. She decided to cast a physical defense spell on one of the magic stones she had bought as an extra when she went to pick up the processed stones.

"...Good. It's been a while, but it looks like I did it right. Now, first, let's start with my brother's. Since he has two ears, one should have physical defense and the other magical defense."

As she said this, she took out a set of earrings from the bag with a rustling sound.

Wrapping one of the earrings with a purple magic stone in both hands, she chanted a spell. Her hands glowed golden, and after a while, the light faded. She repeated the process with the other earring.

"Hmm, it's done. I don't know how effective it is since I haven't tested it, but it should serve as a good charm."

She held the unexpectedly well-finished earrings up to the light, muttering happily.

"Now, let's imbue His Highness's pendant. It's in this bag, right?... Oh?"

The pendant she took out had a green magic stone with two purple magic stones on either side.

"I only ordered one green magic stone... and I only paid for the green stone and the processing fee. But... the design is so beautiful. Alright, let's use this design for the imbuement. I planned on physical defense, but I can add two more spells. What should I choose... I'll think about it while I go pay. Laila? Laila, are you here?"

"Yes, what is it?"

Called, Laila entered Althea's room.

"The stones were processed with more than I ordered."

"What? We need to complain to the shopkeeper."

"No, it's fine. The processing is very beautiful... But I do need to pay for the extra stones."

"If the shopkeeper added them without permission, you shouldn't have to pay."

Laila replied, slightly annoyed. She probably thought it was a hassle to go pay again. Seeing this, Althea smiled wryly and responded.

"I can't do that. Besides, I really like this design. I think it's only fair to pay for it. So, could you get an outing permit from the dorm manager?"

After a big sigh, Laila said, "Understood," and left the room.

Really... Althea is too kind. She always takes things so positively... That's what makes her wonderful, but I can't refuse when she asks with that smile. I just don't like that she has to go through extra trouble and pay again...

Thinking this, Laila knocked on the dorm manager's door and returned to the room with an outing permit.

"I'll be going now."

In the end, Laila decided to go to the magic stone shop alone.

When she returned and told Althea, who had initially insisted on going herself, she finally agreed, emphasizing her gratitude towards the shopkeeper.

Althea had been worried that the maid, who was listening in angry mode, might complain to the shopkeeper.

"Thank you, Laila. Please tell the shopkeeper that I really liked it and not to be angry, okay?"

"Of course, I understand."

With a wry smile at her master's words, Laila headed into town.

After seeing Laila off, Althea returned to her room to think about the imbuement magic with a magic book in hand.

"Hmm, as planned, physical defense for the green stone is fine. What should I imbue in the two side stones? Maybe magical defense like my brother's. And... what else?"

She flipped through the magic book, pondering.

"Other than physical and magical defense... can I imbue support magic? If so... oh?"

As she flipped through the book, a page suddenly began to glow.

"What...? A new spell? Let's see..."

She checked the newly revealed spell.

"A mental defense spell? I didn't know this existed. When would this be useful...? Hmm..."

Althea pondered, intrigued by the new discovery.

After some deliberation, I decided on this particular spell!

As the days went by, it was finally the day of the farewell party for the graduates.

Since the farewell party had a dress code, rental outfits were prepared in the dining hall for the students from commoner backgrounds, making the hall a bustling place with fittings since the morning.

Although Althea had her own dress and could afford to take it easy, she was somehow helping out with the rental outfits in the dining hall. Naturally, Laila was there with her.

The reason for this was that after breakfast, while Althea was taking a walk around the dormitory, she spotted Precious Randall carrying in the rental outfits. When Althea called out to her, Randall, though surprised, responded with a smile that showed signs of fatigue. Concerned about her smile, Althea asked why she was tired, and Randall shyly explained that a staff member had caught cold, leaving them short-handed.

Upon hearing this, Althea hurried to the dormitory head and volunteered to help with the dress fittings. Of course, it wasn’t just Althea going alone; Laila accompanied her as well.

For Althea, who had always been helping everyone in the territory and town, lending a hand was not a burden at all. Rather, she interacted with the students from commoner backgrounds who came to borrow the outfits, saying things like, “Oh, what a design,” and “This color is lovely,” with delight.

Initially, the commoner students were surprised and hesitant to see Althea there, but as they watched her proactively engage with the indecisive girls, happily helping them choose and offering advice, more and more students began preferring Althea’s assistance over the store staff.

Even after noon, the line of students waiting for Althea’s assistance did not diminish.

Growing impatient, Laila approached Precious Randall and said, "We have our own preparations to attend to, so may we be excused?" Randall, who had been too busy with her work to keep track of time, hurried to Althea and offered to take over.

“Miss, thank you so much. We can handle the rest.”

“But there are still so many people…”

“However, you need to prepare as well, don’t you?”

With that, Randall addressed the students in line.

“Everyone, I am terribly sorry, but from this point forward, I, Precious Randall, will be assisting you. Please understand.”

Initially, some students grumbled, saying they wanted Althea’s help, but they soon acquiesced, reassured that Randall would assist them.

“Now that everyone has agreed… Miss, you’ve been a great help today. Thank you. I will properly express my gratitude another day. Please hurry now.”

With that, Precious Randall began attending to the students.

As for Althea, she returned to her room with Laila to prepare for the event.
