....

Dawn broke over the Kasugano residence.

The warm sunlight streamed through the bedroom window. Perhaps due to the heavy rain and wind the night before, Okukozome was blessed with a pleasantly cool morning.

"Mmm..." Sora, nestled in the futon, her eyelashes fluttering, reached out instinctively, her hand searching for the warmth beside her.

Her small hand grasped at empty air. The absence of the familiar presence beside her jolted her awake. She opened her eyes, frantically searching the room.

"Haru? Haru!!!" Sora's face paled as she looked around the empty room.

She tried to get up, but the chill of the morning air sent a shiver through her.

Shaking her head, she glanced at the scattered pieces of futon on the tatami mat, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

A few minutes later, Sora, dressed in her usual white dress and clutching her beloved black rabbit plush, walked out of the room with a worried expression, searching for Haru.

"Please don't do anything stupid!" she muttered to herself, a wave of regret washing over her as she recalled her actions the previous night.

Walking down the wooden stairs, she remembered her conversation with the Wolf King.

"Oh? Little girl, with the protections your brother placed on you, you should be able to escape from me. So why are you standing here before me?"

"You can't kill each other, right? I mean, Godslayers can't truly defeat one another."

"That's true. Forcing a fight to the death would only lead to mutual destruction. After all, I don't know your brother's trump card."

"Then that's all I need to know. You're planning to take me hostage, aren't you?"

"Hmm?! I see madness in your eyes. It makes sense, considering you're the King's sister. Are you trying to use me to test something?"

"Yes. I want to know how much Haru truly cares about me, whether he's willing to cross that line."

"Interesting, very interesting. Then, let's cooperate!"

Sora's white slippers padded softly against the wooden floor as she reached the bottom of the stairs. She looked around, searching for Haru.

Seeing the empty living room, she murmured, her voice drained of color, "I shouldn't have pushed him so hard."

Just then, her delicate nose twitched. "The scent of rice?" she said, her face lighting up with surprise.

A wave of joy washed over her, and she hurried towards the kitchen.

Haru stood by the stove, sweat beading on his forehead. He wiped it away with the back of his hand as he stirred the red rice porridge simmering in the pot over a blue flame.

Sora, standing by the kitchen door, felt a wave of relief wash over her.

"You're awake? The blood-replenishing porridge will be ready in a bit," Haru said with a chuckle, his ears twitching as he heard her footsteps. He didn't turn around.

Sora smiled, a radiant, heart-stopping smile.

But a second later, her expression shifted, her joy replaced by a mixture of hope and uncertainty, like a fickle sky.

She leaned against the doorframe, clutching her black rabbit plush and fiddling with its long ears. Her beautiful eyes, filled with apprehension, fixed on Haru's back as she spoke.

"Haru, do you regret it... being with me?"

Haru paused, his movements stilled as he processed her question. A wry smile touched his lips. Thanks to the egg, he knew their situation. They weren't actually blood-related. And even if they were...

He chuckled softly.

Then, his voice, firm and unwavering, filled the kitchen.

"A Devil King never regrets!"

"Mmm!" Sora replied, a sweet, tearful smile blooming on her face.

Sayanomiya Kaoru, the full-time maid, entered the dining room and froze, her eyes widening as she witnessed the sight before her: Haru and Sora, feeding each other, their actions a symphony of sweet intimacy. The sudden display of affection was like a flashbang, momentarily blinding her.

What's going on? What happened? They should both be asleep at this hour. How is breakfast already prepared? And shouldn't they be sleeping in even later after being attacked by the Marquis Voban last night?

As she watched, Haru accidentally spilled a bit of porridge on Sora's face. He reached out, wiping it away with his finger, then popped it into his mouth, eliciting a giggle from the silver-haired girl.

The relentless barrage of sugary sweetness was too much for Kaoru's young heart. She clutched her chest, her face contorted with indignation. "You'll die from showing off your love! Have some decency, you incestuous siblings! I'm still a child! Why are you torturing me like this?"

The lovey-dovey feeding frenzy continued for half an hour, until all the food was gone. Only then did Haru and Sora notice Kaoru, standing by the door, massaging her temples with a pained expression.

"Oh, it's been quiet lately. You don't need to come here anymore. Right, bring a Miko with strong spiritual vision tomorrow. I need her abilities," Haru said flatly, looking at Kaoru as if she were an annoying fly, his words devoid of warmth.

Kaoru's veins bulged on her forehead as she glared at the callous Devil King, her mind filled with a torrent of hashtags and her heart burning with indignation. She had been trying to get their attention for ages, making all sorts of noises and even banging her head against the door three times. But these two were so engrossed in their feeding ritual that they only noticed her after they were finished. I just want to flip the table! There was a limit to ignoring someone!

She mentally flipped countless tables in her mind before finally calming down. With a deep bow, she replied, "Yes, my lord."

Kaoru fled the Kasugano residence as if escaping a disaster zone.

Haru and Sora, watching her hasty retreat, exchanged puzzled glances.

"What's wrong with her?" Sora asked, tilting her head.

"Maybe she was kicked by a donkey? Or maybe she's just eager to prove herself because it's my order?" Haru scratched his head, staring after Kaoru.

"Well, whatever. Let's…" He leaned in, a mischievous glint in his eyes, and kissed Sora's forehead.

"No way!!" Sora, understanding his intentions, let out a playful whine.

The wind howled, and if one listened closely, a faint chant, like a whisper, could be heard amidst the roar.
