Custom monster system

Things went back to normal after that in astera as everyone slowly got used to the new high rank monsters. Alex was quite busy during this time hunting down the stronger variants of the monsters letting him increase his strength by a large amount over a period of two weeks. [slick scales] , [ice resistance] , [lithe figure] and [bloodletting claws] were each unlocked during this time causing Alex's appearance to shift once again. He went from tall and stacked with muscle to tall and deceptively lean as his body grew slightly longer to redistribute the muscles and compact them down.

His scales also developed a thin coat of wax-like stuff that made his scales even more reflective and nice to look at. The biggest change however came in the form of his claws that changed slightly to incorporate barbs and a thin layer of anticoagulant mucus making them both ascetically and functionally better. There were also a whole list of traits that got new levels as well thanks to the high rank variants of the creatures appearing. These won't be listed here since they would merely take up space if they were.

At the end of these two weeks reports about a strange amount of tracks from a mysterious wyvern started to come in from all over. Alex was very excited about this for two reasons , the first was that he might get a new trait from the pink rathian who left those tracks. The second reason was the most important in his mind however as it meant that after the hunt for this rathian was done the admiral would return with news of the elders recess. Once this happened Alex would be able to hunt new species of monsters for powerful traits to add to his arsenal.

Oddly enough the process of tracking the pink rathian was the same as in the game with Zain searching every biome for tracks before finally narrowing down where it was. This made no sense to Alex since even if the thing migrated between biomes often you'd think he'd run into it eventually , but nope there was a milestone needed first. When the quest came for Zain to finally hunt the monster Alex didn't volunteer since he would want to eat the thing and it was slated to be studied by the scholars. Rather than fight with them over it Alex simply decided to wait for another opportunity.

It took Zain two days to finish the hunt since it was a full day to walk to the third fleets base and another just to kill the pink rathian that somehow managed to go unnoticed in midair despite them being fairly sure it could fly. Alex gave Zain a funny look when he was telling the story in his report which confused the man until Alex called him an idiot for not noticing a huge pink wyvern flying near him. Zain could only chuckle embarrassed at that since as a veteran hunter he really should have noticed it so he couldn't really argue.

Alex excused himself from the meeting after that before slipping into the nearby ocean and diving down so his shape wasn't noticeable. He then swam towards the front gate of astera and waited for the admiral to show up so that he could give the man a little scare. Alex didn't need to wait long as the hulking man walked casually along the path with a sack hung over his shoulder five minutes later. Alex slipped out of the water behind the man while carefully making sure that he made no sound before carefully tapping him on the shoulder.

The man's reaction was priceless as when he turned to look behind him he froze as he was staring down Alex's throat as Alex had held his mouth open behind his head. To the admirals credit he didn't scream in fright but watching the tan man go five shades paler made this totally worth it in Alex's opinion. Alex closed his mouth and smirked at the man 'Not so cute anymore now am I old man?' he asked humorously.
