Employees Of The Unnamed Convenience Store

Chapter 10 – Betrayed By The Light

No…

This can’t be happening.

The entire room was now clearly illuminated by the ceiling lights.

There was no longer any darkness in the room that could cover my entire body.

After realizing this.

I ran as far away from the last place the monster’s voice came from.

Why? Why? Why? Why?

My rationale crumbled.

Hopelessness engulfed my thoughts.

I tried so hard!

While running, tears erupted out of my eyes.

I even managed to escape from that monster 2 times!

So why..?

Why is this happening to me!

No… No! No! No! No!

Please… PLEASE!

From behind me, I could hear the monster’s thundering footsteps.

Dudududududu! Dudududududu!

I looked back.

Crash!

The monster’s body came into view, and crashed into a rack.

He was now in the aisle I was in.

Hehe... Found you.

This time… No more second chances.

With my entire body exposed by the ceiling lights.

The monster pinpointed its direction towards me.

It was charging towards my direction.

Fuck!!!

At this point, I didn’t care about my stamina nor heartbeat.

I ran as fast as I could.

This was no longer a maze chase…

It was a predator hunting its prey.

I recklessly pulled down the shelves behind me.

But the monster simply ran around it, and continued propelling itself towards me.

It was faster than me, and wasn’t slowing down.

Pant… Pant…

While running through the shelves, everything around me slowed down.

This is all a nightmare…

Soon... I'll wake up from bed as usual...

Peacefully attend school... Find a girlfriend... And...

Damn it.

I’ve been here for more than 5 hours… So wake up already!

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

Crash… Crash..! Crash! Crash!

I woke up from my daydream.

That noise..!

I looked back again.

From the back, the monster was toppling over the racks.

Like a set of dominos.

The fallen racks enclosed my aisle… In one straight path.

Looking back at the monster, my face contorted in terror.

Yes… That’s the face…

The despair… Wonderful!

The monster sprinted towards me.

It was going to catch me.

In a last ditch effort, my brain panicked and thoughts sprang up from nowhere.

Once again, the boy’s words reverberated in the back of my mind…

You searched for light from your phone, and then that light betrayed you.

What did I do wrong?

Searching for the light from something other than yourself.

What was I supposed to do?!

Now you're just running in circles…

No, there was literally nothing I could do in the first place!

As it stands, you will forever be lost in this darkness.

Fuck!!!

But.

It was too late.

The monster was right behind me.

Game over.

It swept my leg with one of its long arms.

Thud.

My body scrapped against the hard floor.

The monster jumped on top of my body.

Straddling onto my body like a goddamn spider.

It grabbed onto my torso with four of its arms.

Then pinned down both my arms and legs with the other arms.

With its disfigured face, it looked straight down at me.

I struggled…

But the monster opened its jaw.

The four tongues hanging from its mouth, twirled around and latched onto my face.

I couldn’t see anything, the tongues were obstructing my vision.

Sting.

A hot sensation came into my neck…

Ah… Just like it did to the landmine girl…

My vision became blurry.

Then…

The monster hopped off of me, and released me.

The world

eVeRytHiNg iS sWiRly..!

The monster grabbed onto my leg with four of its arms…

And flung me into the shelving racks.

Crash! Crash! Crash! Crash!

Thud.

My ragdolled body went through 4 aisles…

I was currently laying on the floor... Bleeding.

Ah…

I’m so tired...

I thought back on what just happened...

"Hahahaha..."

Thinking about it from a philosophical sense.

Once again, I was desperately trying to find light.

Well.

I got what I wanted.

But...

The very thing I sought after had betrayed me.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

...

I closed my eyes.
