Employees Of The Unnamed Convenience Store

Chapter 9 – End Of The Game

I flashed the light into the storage room once more.

Again… It was just a large room with racks, except that the walls weren’t in sight.

The monster was instantly alerted.

Just like before, it descended from the ceiling.

But it didn’t immediately charge at me.

Hmmmm. I’m sure that I told you that doing so was a stupid idea.

I know.

Have you lost your mind?

It doesn’t matter if you use the same trick again.

I have a plan.

Well, whatever I guess… Get to running!

Same as before, it propelled its body with its legs and lower arms.

I weaved through the shelves.

This time, I have to keep my breathing to a minimum.

And don’t panic.

Keep a consistent momentum so that I don’t tire out, and so my heart beat doesn’t rise too high.

I turned around and dropped over a rack.

Then once again, I continued sprinting.

Keep doing this until my brain is no longer accustomed to my heart pulse.

Let’s see how far back the monster is.

I turned back with my flashlight.

Fuck! Because I was running slower than usual, the monster was catching up!

Why are you running slower than usual?

I’m about to catch up you know~?

I increased my pace.

Fuck, but at this rate… My heart could ring throughout my ears again!

Okay, it’s fine.

I postured my body and threw my flashlight again.

And sprinted in the opposite direction.

The monster, who was closer than last time, noticed this and decided to follow my foot steps.

Didn’t I tell you that little trick was useless?

It seems like that’s the only thing you can do-

Hehe…

Idiot, you let your guard down.

Hidden in the darkness.

I pulled out a second flashlight.

But this one was a variant.

This one had a scroller on the side, something that could adjust the light’s brightness.

And pointed it towards the monster’s eyes.

Better hope that you don’t get blind from this!

I set the setting to max.

Flash!

Ahhhhhhhhh!

The monster recoiled.

YOU LITTLE SHIT!

The monster covered its eyes and lunged at me.

Still flashing on the monster’s body, I evaded his arms.

Then I dropped the flashlight on the ground.

The conditions are complete.

I let myself submerge into the darkness and covered my ears.

Think of nothing…

Empty your thoughts.

My heart beat was a bit high, but it quickly relaxed.

Woah-

This sensation.

It worked.

My body moved to another location.

But I could still hear the monster in the room.

Again, his frustrated cries roared around the room,

Damnit! So you actually understand how this room works huh?

Don't tell me... You plan on teleporting around, until you eventually find the emergency exit?!

No.. Nonono! NO!

URAAAAAHHHH!

The monster screamed…

I thought it was over, but…

AAAAhhhh….

Haha…

Hahahaha…

...

...

...

...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

What?

The monster began clapping all of his hands.

You’re impressive!

I’m genuinely impressed!

But…

Then all of a sudden.

The lights in the storage room…

All of them turned on.

No way.

Our fun chase ends here.

I've given you plenty of time...

How unfortunate.

It seems you haven’t grasped the true essence of our little game.

Why hadn’t I thought about it before…

If it can destroy lights, it can obviously turn them on.

Was it…

Was it always playing with me?!

Spontaneously, I recalled the boy’s words from before.

You’ll be dying here.

Ah…

Shit.
