Hey, Why Are My Skills so Weird!?

Chapter 118 – First Day of Class (1)

For the next week, I spent every day in a tense state.

I could not help but imagine all kinds of plots where the headmistress decides to get the demon in my mind, or where she states that the demon is something evil and kills me straightaway. I was so nervous that I did not dare to leave the house.

But after one week, nothing happened, and I finally calmed down.

[I told you. If she wanted to hurt you, she would have done it immediately.] The demon said after he knocked me off during the training in the dreamland.

I nodded with a conflicted face.

It’s not that I’m being paranoid, but that I know how powerful the demon is. He was able to turn a cripple like me into a prodigy in just a bit over one month.

Anyone would be tempted for something like that.

I should feel lucky that the Headmistress did not seem interested in him.

Just like every night, the training in the dreamland ended after I was beaten down by the demon dozens of times.

Even today, I was unable to touch the hem of the demon clothes, but despite that, I could feel myself improving.

Mainly my mana. It had been increasing at a very fast speed since I contracted Saphire. I could break through to Tier Four at any time.

Considering that my mana hardly increased before that, I was crazy with joy.

After the training in the dreamland, I woke up. Just like always, Saphire was curled beside me and licking my cheek gently. When she felt that I woke up, she smiled happily and licked my cheek even more enthusiastically.

I smiled wryly and took a few seconds to calm her down. By this point in time, I had already given up on correcting this habit of hers.

After waking up, playing with Saphire, stroking Scarlet’s head, taking a bath, and dressing up, I went down to the dining room for breakfast.

Mom and Ley were already waiting for me with the breakfast on the table.

Today, Ley was dressed up with a blue skirt and a pink sweater. Her auburn hair was tied in a ponytail, making her look more mature than usual.

Even I, as her brother, could not help but sigh in admiration seeing her appearance.

The reason she was dressed like that was that today was the first day of class.

Mother smiled when she saw me coming down the stairs.

“Good morning, Jane. Hurry up and have breakfast. You don’t want to be late on your first day of college.”

“Thank you, mom.”

“You already prepared everything, right? And look at your hair, did you forget to comb it?”

I smiled wryly at my mother as she took out a comb from her bag and combed my hair. I wanted to tell her that I was no longer a kid, but when I saw her enthusiastic expression, I decided to leave her be.

“Sanctuary’s First is a very strict college, so you must not slack off. Also, you and Ley take several classes together, so make sure to take care of her. She is younger than the other students, so they could bully her. Remember to be respectful to your teachers, and…”

“I know, mom, I know. Don’t worry, we will be alright.”

“I hope so.” My mother sighed and looked at Ley and me with a gentle gaze. “My two children, you have grown so much already.”

Ley giggled and I smiled wryly.

“By the way, there is something I need to tell you.” My mother suddenly put on a serious expression. “I received news that people from the foreign races will come to Sanctuary’s First like exchange students.”

Ley and I were stunned.

“Are you sure, mom?” Ley asked.

“I am. So you must be careful. If you can, try not to interact much with them. I’m not sure of the reason why they are doing something like this, however, it must not be something good. Remember, the foreign races are enemies.”

Ley and I looked at each other and nodded.

But foreign races, huh?

I have never met one of them, so I’m a bit curious about them.

After that, Ley and I finished breakfast and left under the gaze of our mother.

Just a few days ago, we received our schedule. Just as expected, Ley and I had the same schedule for the mandatory courses. Sylvia and Andrew had the same schedule as us too.

That was normal, after all, the four of us were in the top ten students. I knew that the top ten students were always put together in a special class.

This class was usually called class one.

Sanctuary’s First accepted one thousand students every year, but not every student was treated the same way. As the woman in the induction said, in this place, your capabilities determined your treatment.

That could be seen from the first day. The treatment of the best ten freshmen was much better than the other students.

They were put in a special class with only ten people, and this class was given better guidance and better resources. Some people even called this class the ‘privileged class’.

But the academy was fair. If after the first semester, your performance fell considerably, you could be pushed out of this class and replaced by someone that showed better performance.

There were two main reasons behind this system. One, it could nurture talented students in a better way, and two, it encouraged competition.

And competition meant faster growth.

That was what any Awakened academy hoped for.

When Ley and I arrived at the classroom, most of the other students had already arrived. I saw Andrew and Sylvia, so I quickly greeted them.

Strangely, Sylvia was staring at me with a serious face. She seemed like she was contemplating something, but I was not sure what it was.

After chatting for a while with them, the time for the start of the class arrived. At that moment, a tall man entered the classroom.

“Is everybody here?” He asked. “Good. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Javier Arango, an A-Rank Awakened. And I will be your teacher for this class.”
